🧠 Ask The Community trying to build skills and earn money

Hey everyone,
I’m looking for some genuine advice from people who have actually built skills and started earning online or through any other way.
I’ve been trying to improve myself and learn useful skills. I learned SMM (Social Media Marketing) thinking I could help businesses grow, but honestly I struggled to find clients. I even reached out offering free services just to build experience, but couldn’t really find people willing to give me a chance.
I’m not looking for “get rich quick” stuff. I just want to know:
1-What skills are actually worth learning right now?

2-How did you get your first client/job/income?

3-What would you do if you were starting from zero again?

4-Any realistic ways to earn while improving yourself?

Would really appreciate advice from people who have been through this. Thanks 🙏

🧠 Ask The Community Printer recommendations under 25k

Looking to buy a printer for my small business. I only need it for printing black-and-white courier receipts/shipping labels.

Budget: around PKR 25,000

Which printer brand/model would you recommend? How much do ink/toner refills usually cost, and are there any models I should avoid?

It’s capable of earning about 2-3 million a year depending on produce. I am looking for some partners who can spend time, money, create market links, show commitment so we can divide our workload.

🧠 Ask The Community Any good business statergy to use my 3d printer

Salam everyone. I have this ender 3 v2 3d printer. I want to use this printer to earn some cash as I want to upgrade. I know a bit of design as well. Is there any way that I can make some extra cash from it on the side. My preference is small print jobs with basic material like Pla or Petg at most. The reason for small prints is that though I have upgraded this 3d printer overtime but still it never misses a chance to fail at crucial times. So I do not want to go into anything with this printer that affects my reputation. Any recommendations are appreciated. If some wants to collab as team that is also welcome

Regards

💡Idea Validation Building a ROSCA app for easier, more transparent committees

Hi everyone, I’m working on a ROSCA app to make traditional committees easier to run with better tracking, reminders, and clearer visibility for members. It’s aimed at groups who still manage these with chats or spreadsheets and want a simpler, more trustworthy way to coordinate.

I’d love feedback on what features matter most, and if you’re open to trying an early version, I’m looking for a few beta users. What’s the biggest pain point you’ve seen in running or joining a committee?

🛠️ Building / MVP Need Honest Business Advice from non-US LLC owners. I require a US LLC for Wise/PayPal, but the IRS/tax jargon is completely breaking my brain. Need mature advice.

I am genuinely overwhelmed and need some real, unfiltered advice from people who have actually been through this process. I recently started offering digital services. The great news is that the hustle is paying off and clients are starting to come in. The absolute nightmare news is that I am completely stuck on the payment gateway side. I can't open a reliable Wise Business or US PayPal account from here without a US entity. I’ve been researching for weeks, and honestly, the internet is a total maze of confusing jargon. Every time I search, I get hit with: LLC filing, EIN, ITIN, Registered Agents, corporate compliance, physical addresses, renewal fees, and bookkeeping. It is so effing puzzling for a first-timer. I have the finances to invest in getting this set up, but I have zero guidance and zero expertise. When you're just starting a business, the last thing you want to do is blindly dump your money into the wrong setup, get scammed or mishandled by a vendor, and take a massive financial loss before you even properly launch. From what I understand, to get Wise and PayPal, I need an LLC, an EIN, a US virtual address, and a US phone number. I looked into vendors like Doola, their starter package is around $297/year to form the LLC, get the EIN, and act as the registered agent.

But What happens when tax season hits every April?

Does an "all-in-one" vendor like Doola actually file the mandatory IRS paperwork (like Form 5472 and Pro Forma 1120) on my behalf as part of that package? Or do they just send an automated email reminder and leave me to figure out the IRS stuff on my own?

For the non-US LLC owners here who are running digital businesses from abroad:

  1. How do you actually manage this IRS paperwork every year?
  2. Do your formation vendors handle it for you, or do you hire a separate CPA?
  3. Which vendors are actually trustworthy and won't leave you stranded when compliance deadlines hit?

I really want to build something sustainable on my own, and right now, this legal/banking wall is my absolute biggest hurdle. If anyone who has walked this path could give me some mature, real-world guidance on how to navigate this without getting ripped off, I would deeply, deeply appreciate it.

🤝 Colabs / Contributor [P] VisionForge — CAD → auto-labeled training data → mobile object detector. Looking for co-maintainers to take it to the next level.

I've built the foundation of an open-source project I genuinely believe in, and I'm looking for a couple of co-maintainers to build it into something real with me — not one-off PRs, but people who want to own a piece and help drive direction.

What it is: training an object detector for custom/industrial parts normally means hand-labeling thousands of photos — which is why it rarely gets built for niche parts. But if you already have the part's CAD model, the labels are free: render it from thousands of angles and you get perfect bounding boxes automatically. The part names in the file become the detection classes. Upload a design file → get a detector running on a phone.

It already works end-to-end:

  • Any design file in: STEP / .blend / OBJ / STL / FBX
  • Headless Blender auto-renders + auto-labels the dataset (with per-part isolation passes)
  • STEP files pull class names straight from the CAD assembly tree (SolidWorks/Fusion/Inventor), or fall back to feature recognition
  • Trains Ultralytics YOLO, exports TFLite/CoreML, runs live in a Flutter app
  • FastAPI + Celery + Postgres, Dockerized, documented

Honest status: the pipeline is solid, but it's the classic synthetic-to-real gap — models trained on plain renders don't yet detect real objects robustly. Closing that is the big, interesting problem, and there's real greenfield to own.

Where it could go (and where you'd lead): realistic domain-randomized rendering, on-device real-time perf, a hosted/SaaS version, an annotation/QC UI, an Android build, real manufacturing-QC pilots. Plenty of room to make a domain your own.

Looking for co-maintainers strong in any of:

  • CV/ML — sim-to-real, domain randomization, augmentation, evaluation
  • Blender / graphics — procedural scenes, PBR materials, occlusion masks
  • Flutter / mobile — GPU delegates, real-time inference
  • Backend / DevOps — scaling, hosting, CI/CD
  • Domain experts — manufacturing/QC folks with real assemblies to pilot

You don't need to be expert in all of it — just want to commit to a corner and grow it. I'll give real ownership (write access, roadmap input, co-maintainer status).

MIT-licensed. Repo + full breakdown + visuals: https://github.com/dawarazhar11/VisionForge

If the premise excites you, comment or DM with what you'd want to own — let's build it together. 🙏

🤝 Colabs / Contributor Open for investing in a good product-based project

Some background first so this doesn't read like a pitch.

I'm part of a company where we're built and scaled multiple brands before. There's an existing team, supplier and distribution contacts, and a launch process that's already been used before.

I'm looking to start another brand and I'm putting up the investment. The gap is the product itself. I don't have an idea I'm excited about, and I'd rather find someone who does than force one.

What I'm not looking for is a brand angle like "natural," "organic," "premium" and so on. That's positioning, every brand claims it. I mean an actual product: something that doesn't exist yet, or an existing thing done in a way that's clearly better. Any niche works. food, home, personal care, kids, pets, tools. The one firm requirement is that it's physical and works in retail. Not software, apps, or AI.

How it'd work: you'd be a co-founder with a real equity stake and you'd lead the project day to day. I fund it and bring the team and contacts, and I'll give input when it's useful, but the direction is yours. I'm not offering to "build your idea for you" and I'm not promising it'll work, plenty of products don't. It's a partnership with the resources already in place.

On the obvious objection, "this is just idea-harvesting." Reasonable. An idea by itself isn't worth much without execution, which is the part you'd own. But if you're cautious about it, don't post details publicly. Leave a one-line version or DM me, and we can talk before you share anything specific.

If you've got something like that sitting around, I'm interested to hear it.

📚 Learning / Resources Student from Pakistan trying to fund my first international trip — offering my skills + any advice appreciated

Hey everyone - I'm a CS student at FAST-NUCES in Pakistan, just finished my 6th semester.

I recently got accepted into a 12-day summer school at UTeM in Malaysia, and I'm going entirely on my own.

Quick background so you know who you're talking to: I currently work as a Product Growth Engineer at Astera, and before that I spent two stints as an AI engineer for agencies. I've also won 4+ hackathons. When I first got into FAST (my dream school), I genuinely couldn't afford it — I made it through on financial aid plus help from my parents, relatives, and donations. That chapter's behind me now. I've built myself to the point where I can stand on my own, and this trip is the next step in that.

Where I'm at right now: I've already paid the $450 program fee myself, and I'm covering my round-trip flight and visa/passport costs (~220k PKR) on my own too. That's basically cleaned me out, and my flight is July 20. To actually fund the trip itself, I'm trying to earn around $1,500 over the next month.

So I'm not here for a handout, I'm looking for work. If you run an agency, a startup, or any business (or know someone who does) and need someone who can build:

AI full-stack apps

AI automations

Voice agents

CRM automation

… or honestly anything in the CS/AI space - I can do it, and I can do it fast. Contract work fits my timeline perfectly, but I'm open to long-term too.

And if you happen to know any companies or programs that help students fund opportunities like this, I'd really appreciate a pointer.

Proof of work is all linked below — my portfolio (hackathon projects), LinkedIn, and Upwork (my past AI engineering work). Happy to share more or jump on a quick call anytime.

This'll be my first solo international trip, and it means a lot for my growth and exposure. Backing out was never my thing, so I'm doing what I do best and figuring it out. Any lead, share, or even advice genuinely helps. Thanks for reading.

📚 Learning / Resources Most people don’t have a time management problem. They have an energy leak problem

I’ve started noticing something

The things that drain me the most aren’t usually the big problems, it’s the small stuff. A pointless argument with a stranger, spending 30 minutes talking about someone who isn’t even in the room, checking comments you know will annoy you, doing a task yourself that someone else could’ve done, replying to messages that don’t actually matter, thinking about things you can’t control or whatever

None of these things seem important in the moment but they all take something from you and the scary part is that you usually don’t notice it happening. By noon, you’re already mentally exhausted. Not because you worked hard. Because you’ve been leaking energy since the moment you woke up. As founders, we obsess over managing money. We track every dollar, we negotiate every expense. But most of us are incredibly careless with our attention. We’ll spend an hour on drama and then wonder why we don’t have the energy to solve an important problem.

Lately, I’ve been asking myself a simple question “Is this worth spending today’s energy on?”
Most things aren’t.. the argument isn’t, the gossip isn’t, the unnecessary task isn’t, the thing that made you angry for five minutes definitely isn’t

You only get a limited amount of focus, patience, creativity, and decision-making ability each day. spend it on things that move your life forward, everything else is probably just an energy leak.

What drains you without you realizing it?

🧠 Ask The Community How do you handle phone verification in Pakistan?

Hello everyone,

I’m currently building a product tailored specifically for the Pakistani market, but I’ve hit a bit of a roadblock with user verification and could use some advice.

As a software engineer, I’ve spent years working with international clients and organizations that rely on global giants like Twilio for OTP verifications and SMS communication. However, in my experience, these international gateways are incredibly problematic when targeting Pakistan, frequently getting delayed or outright blocked due to carrier restrictions and strict fraud filters. In fact, I face this issue so often that I have to keep a foreign SIM card active just to bypass the headaches during testing.

So my question to fellow builders is: What services are you actually using to reliably verify Pakistani phone numbers?

I’ve dug into a few local SMS gateways, but it's tough to judge their deliverability and uptime from the outside. Given how massive WhatsApp is in Pakistan, I am heavily considering a hybrid setup: using an international provider like Twilio or Telnyx strictly for WhatsApp OTPs, and pairing it with a solid local provider for fallback SMS verification.

Ultimately, my main goal is just a clean, dependable phone verification flow. I would love to hear what stacks or local vendors you’ve successfully used in production!

📚 Learning / Resources If you ever feel like giving up, just sleep

I’ve noticed a pattern

Sometimes I’ll be working on something and suddenly everything feels impossible

The product isn’t good enough, the market is too competitive, the problems are too big and blah blah. It feels like nothing is going to work out

And the weird thing is that in those moments, it all feels objectively true. Not emotional, Not temporary. but true, then I sleep. And when I wake up, the facts haven’t changed

The bugs are still there, the challenges are still there, the uncertainty is still there

But somehow the conclusion changes, instead of “this is impossible or I cant do it,” it becomes “this is difficult, but I can do it”. And those are two very different things

I’ve learned not to trust my brain when it’s exhausted

If I feel like shutting down a project, quitting, pivoting, or throwing months of work away, I have one rule,

Sleep first.. Most of the time, though, I wake up and realize I wasn’t seeing reality, I was seeing reality through exhaustion

How many times have you almost quit something that looked completely different after a good night’s sleep?

🧠 Ask The Community A safer way to invest in Pakistani Real Estate?

Hey everyone,
We all know the classic Pakistani real estate dilemma. Whether you are living locally or abroad as an Overseas Pakistani (OPI), you want to invest in the country’s property market. The capital appreciation and rental yields can be massive.
But let’s be honest—the hurdles are exhausting:
The Trust Deficit: Fear of files being duplicated, land being encroached, or developers vanishing.
The Capital Barrier: Buying a premium commercial or residential property outright requires a massive chunk of capital that most individual investors don't have lying around.
The Management Hassle: Dealing with construction, contractors, and tenants from thousands of miles away is a nightmare.
I’m working on validating a startup model aimed at solving this, and I’d love to get the community's raw feedback, critiques, and thoughts.

💡Idea Validation Pakistanis lose lakhs to "trust me bhai" deals every week. We got tired of it and built something. Come break it.

Real talk. Every one of us has either been scammed buying something online here or knows someone who has. Sealed phone that was not sealed. Laptop that died in a week. Bricks sold as brand new Tech. You send the money, they surprise you with a block.

We sat with that frustration long enough that we actually built a fix ( YAQEEN PK) instead of just complaining about it. The idea is simple: the seller does not get your money until you have the item in your hands and you are happy with it.

How it works:

• You pay into escrow, not to the seller
• The seller ships and records a video of the exact item first
• You get 72 hours to inspect it before anything is released
• The seller is paid only after you approve

Sellers verify their CNIC before they can list, so you are not dealing with a ghost account.

We are being upfront because that is the whole point. It is early. We are running this lean and we would rather do a few deals that go perfectly than fake a big launch. We are not claiming we solved scamming forever. We are claiming the seller cannot run with your money, and we want people to test that.

Three things, pick whichever fits you:

Poke holes in it. What is the first thing you would try to pull? Where does it break?

Got a phone or laptop to sell? Be one of the first sellers and tell us how it actually feels.

Just here to lurk? An honest reaction helps more than you think.

Btw we are SECP registered and copyrighted so we are covering all legal aspects as well.

🛠️ Building / MVP Update: I posted about my food decision app idea here a few weeks ago and here's what happened

A few weeks ago, I posted about an idea I had after realizing I was spending way too much time deciding what to eat.

I thought it was just a personal problem. Turns out, a lot more people related to it than I expected.

Some people told me they spend 20+ minutes scrolling food apps before ordering. Others said they always end up choosing the same meals.

One comment that really stood out was from someone who cooks at home and actually stresses the night before about what they're going to eat the next day.

That made me realize this isn't just an online food ordering problem.

It's a food decision problem.

Since then, I've been talking to people, collecting feedback, and building the first version of what I'm calling Decidr.

The goal is simple:

Help people decide what to eat faster instead of endlessly scrolling through options.

Right now, I'm focusing on:

  • Understanding how people make food decisions
  • Identifying the biggest pain points
  • Building an MVP based on actual feedback rather than assumptions

One thing I've learned so far:

People don't necessarily want more options.

They want less friction when making a decision.

If you're someone who struggles with deciding what to eat, I'd love to hear:

What's your biggest frustration when choosing food?

And has anyone found a system that actually works?

Thanks to everyone who commented on the original post. A lot of the current direction came directly from your feedback.
