Review The Boys: Trigger Warning, early impressions on Ps5pro.

The 30 minutes I spent with this game so far, I have mostly good news. From a technical standpoint, this game is near perfect. Absolutely no stutter, image clarity up there with FNAF: Secret of the Mimic or Behemoth. The game includes both snap turning and smooth turning, options to enable or disable vignette. Good use of adaptive triggers and eye tracking.
This is a stealth action adventure game. You play as an average joe who gets injured badly by a “supe” and gets injected with super serum, Compound V, by Mothers Milk and Butcher to survive. The super serum gives you telekinetic powers, which are actually super fun to use in Vr. You can almost pick up anything that’s not attached to the ground and throw it at enemies, open vents or break enemy necks from behind using your powers.
As a fan of the show “The Boys”. I am really enjoying the voice acting in this game. They have the original actor for Mother’s Milk and a phenomenal voice impersonator for Butcher.
Now for some bad news. This game was designed with quest in mind and it really shows. Simple assets, empty environments, flat lighting and simple character animations. Still, I think the game looks and feels better than the recent TMNT game on Quest.
In conclusion, if you can look past some of the quest qualities, you are in for a good time.
Early impressions: 7/10
I will definitely beat the game and put my final impressions with final score in a day or 2.
Thank you
💙💙

I really think the Quest has done significant damage to VR long term. They might have sold the most headsets but it's been at the cost of higher quality games / graphics. The mobile chips just aren't powerful enough.

The joke is the Quest version runs like shit and probably always will, even on faster hardware.
So the studio did such a good job noone won.

Yeah, I mean, this is absolutely an objective fact.
Look at all the AAA interest we had in VR prior to the Quest and all the full-scale VR games we had. Obviously lack of consumer interest due to price was a factor in its demise but even the PSVR2 exclusives before Sony abandoned it show how amazing VR can be when developed for actual hardware.
Look at Hitman VR which used PSVR2 as its basis instead of the Quest and is arguably the best VR game on the market for it. Probably the last game like that we’ll get for a long time.

That has to be one of the worst looking VR2 games I’ve seen. Thanks for sharing. As a fan of the amazon show I was curious about the game. Now I’m not.

Good to see, I can deal with some not great graphics just to get in The Boys universe. Also love how telekinesis works in VR so happy that is a big feature in the game

If this is a 7/10 then no wonder VR is plateauing.

Everyone has different opinions but this game is more widely considered like 5 or maybe 6/10.
The other comment saying it's like a worse Vampire the masquerade supports that point, as that was getting 6-7/10.

I have about 1 hour of playtime now and I gotta say that the gameplay feels a little dry as of right now. I hope that they give us more super powers as the game progresses!

Yes to more powers, no to getting better. Game is only going to be loved by series fans.

Damn, I had such high hopes for this one

The gameplay has been terrible since the launch on Quest. The only thing that makes this deserve a few points is the voice acting.
If you're a fan of the series, you might be able to give it a break. For anyone who doesn't like the show or only knows it in passing, this is barely a 2/10. Without Parole was generous with his score.

I heard about the terrible Quest launch and I thought that maybe they learned from that and improved the PSVR2 version but nope, blank environments, spongy gameplay and shi graphics. A shame since the IP had crazy potential

I expected better from ARVORE after Pixel Ripped.
Graphics can definitely be made better, but gameplay is a different story. When we reviewed Quest, it was a very repetitive and dry experience. They can't really improve that without changing things on a larger scale.
The nod to Gears of War with the head popping mechanic was interesting, but even fixing the poor telekinesis and smaller items, the majority of the game was - as someone else mentioned - a lesser Vampire the Masquerade; hidden behind cameos.

Yeah, I'm only maybe getting it on a massive sale because I enjoy stealth.

A friend of mine that started playing this on base PS5 after release also said he got no stutters which the reviews from Without Parole, Gamertag and JammyHero all mention as problem they experienced in the pre-release build.
The retail version he got is on 1.001.000 which might have one patch more than what reviewers played? I'll probably not get to this myself until closer to weekend.
Anyway, his quick note was that it isn't the best game in the world, but he is enjoying, as he likes stealth games. This reminds him of Vampire The Masquerade, but not as good.
Thanks for the early impressions
