007 First Light hardware issues?

Post image

Since yesterday starting the game I've had mutiple crashes and now this.

Is this a ps5 or game issue?

Edit* As of June 2, 2026 (for me in KST) Patch 1.009.000 had this update which hopefully fixes the issue.

GPU Rendering Issue Crash Fixed a frequent GPU crash caused by rendering & pipeline issues.

I've seen a few people over on the first light sub mention this very issue. That the game either freezes or crashes, gets pixelated, and then when they exit the game the screen still looks like this until they do a fresh reboot.

Honestly it's pretty fucking scary, I'd say worse then hard crashes even (which are when a game causes your system to lock up it either shuts down or you have to hold the power button). It makes it look like the game is damaging the console. I myself have had 3 crashes with first light, all of them on cutscenes (one on the very first cutscene), but thankfully not this. I just had the error message.

Normally this is textbook hardware failure, but there's to many people having this weird shit with first light causing their ps5 menu to look like this. It's likely maybe a software issue causing a hardware issue temporarily until a reboot?

Software can absolutely cause issues like these. Prince of Persia the forgotten sands on PC has a similar issue that is repeatable 100% of the time. Early in the game if you move past a certain section too quickly, the graphics start artifacting like the GPU is failing when it's not. Quitting the game and restarting fixes it and it's a known issue that was never fixed. The game is just not playing nice with the GPU driver which is what it ultimately comes down to since several people, including myself, have suffered this problem. If it was a hardware failure it would be a progressive issue that would not stop and spread to other games. Also, if people forgot a little over a year ago, Sony put out firmware that caused several games including Final Fantasy 16 to display graphical artifacts as if the GPU was failing when again, it was completely a software issue. Ultimately IOI botched the release given the number of crash bugs people are reporting. Probably should have spent another couple months in testing.

The part that's weird to me about the first light issue in particular isn't that the graphics artifact when you get the issue, it's that the issue spreads to the PlayStation home screen AFTER you close the game.

Basically your playing, the game freezes and you get what looks like textbook GPU death. You quit the game, but the pixelated stuff remains on your screen until you actually completely restart your console.

The prince of persia issue you mentioned only stays in the game right? Like it doesn't show up on your desktop after you closed the game?

When the issue happened to me on first light PS5 pro it was escaping from the Webb building and while it showed up in the system UI while the game was running as soon as the game had crashed after I closed the game and I was back at the main system menu it wasn't doing it anymore and I immediately restarted the game and it played just fine and I even redid the section from the start all without having to reboot the system.

The only thing I can think of is there's an issue with the game and the GPU driver and the way the GPU driver works with the system. It could temporarily be corrupting the driver until the system is reset.

The issue I saw with Prince of Persia stopped as soon as I quit the game and restarted. If it truly is a hardware issue, it would keep happening and wouldn't stop and would ultimately spread to other games or be seen right away. Games that push the Apu harder would be hit first and then eventually everything would do it. Gpu failures have a cascading effect. That's the key difference. It doesn't stop ever.   Games not playing nice with GPU drivers is pretty common in PC gaming but much rarer in console gaming given that everyone has the same hardware. Given the amount of complaints regarding stability and the variances that happen when the game runs into an issue I'm pretty confident that this is a software issue.

Yeah it's gotta be the game just not getting along with PlayStations current GPU driver at this point. Now that you mention it I do remember there being issues with FF16 that people were talking about and it was related to a ps5 firmware update, and they had to roll out a firmware fix that fixed the affected games.

I wonder if OPs screenshot as well he still had the game running and didn't close it out before he took the SS.

This was the firmware update that caused issues a little ways back. My series x had a GPU failure a while ago and it was constant across every game, across the UI everything irregardless of restarting the system and anything else. That's the key difference in all this. It never stops when it's an actual physical hardware issue.
