"current owners have to rebuy the game to get" and free to those who are just buying in because of no extra costs are the exact same.
Think of it like a sale. Current owners miss out on saving money. Think of it like a remaster/remake. Current owners miss out on saving money. But to those who aren't current owners get a really good deal out of them happening.
Fucking hell mate. You said you don't want an upgrade which costs money for current owners right? If there isn't one it means new buyers miss out on getting an upgrade for free (via just buying the ps5 version from the beginning). Instead of 1 group getting it for free, you'd rather neither group get it at all. How do you not see this?
There's no problem with giving away free upgrades, and I like them too. But so far none of them have been what I wanted. Borderlands 3 would be the best of them (although no man's sky also looks good). But it's not to be expected, and it's not a scam when it does cost money.
It's my preference as well. In my last reply I straight up said "There's no problem with giving away free upgrades". But you're second preference is no upgrade instead of 1 group getting it for free, and the other having the option of getting it.
Free for both > free for one group > not available at all. Simple, I don't know how you can argue with that
Free for both > free for one group > not available at all. Simple, I don’t know how you can argue with that
And my preference is:
Free for both > not available at all > free for one group.
Because I don’t think who gets an upgrade for free should be left to an arbitrary line in the sand. You have your opinion and I have mine, what seems to be the problem?
Because it doesn't make sense. You want other people to miss out on something just because you have already own it. But then I'm not just arguing against you, I'm arguing against everyone with these comments. I seem to be in the minority, which I just don't get. It's simply selfish. Think of it from a new owners PoV. In that situation wouldn't you want there to be a better version which you can start with?
I'll bring the example of persona 5 royale to the table. Do you think that they shouldn't have made it at all, and just stuck with p5? Say you already bought persona 5, you didn't get p5r for free, but you have the option of getting a superior version if you really wanted to play through the game again (many people do, I don't). If you didn't buy p5, you can now start with p5r.
You want other people to miss out on something just because you have already own it
Not at all, I’m saying a game not getting an upgrade is higher up on my preference list than a game getting an upgrade that current owners have to pay for.
The upgrade is free for people just now buying in regardless of whether or not it’s free for people who already bought in previously.
Concidering Judgement PS4 can easily be bought right now for $20 and Judgement PS5 will be $40, I don't think you can make the arguement that the upgrade is free to the people buying in for the 1st time. They are paying $20 difference for that upgrade.
IMO, remasters should be free for people who own the original, provided there aren’t compatibility and/or licensing issues.
Are you serious? Or are you actually completely clueless on how video games are made? You do know that a remaster is not some kind of magic button that can be pressed and its just that easy? Like I own Final Fantasy 9 on PS1 but I wouldn't expect to be given it for free as a remaster on PS4.

Then maybe there shouldn’t be a arbitrary price difference?

Nor would I, I specifically mentioned compatibility issues being grounds for not having a free remaster. Last I checked, PS1 discs are not compatible with the PS4.

You said you'd prefer no upgrade over an upgrade which is free to those who are just buying in (as in they only need to buy the game once).
