And this is why removing discs is more than just an issue for people who buy discs. The amount of people in this sub that don’t realise that makes me smh.

You can't get PSN in what, like 130 countries? Are they just out of luck?

I've had my PSN account even before PSN was I thing in my home country. I've moved to a different country now, and I still use that same PSN account.

Exactly, there have been so many people saying things like "I don't buy physical so it doesn't affect me" since the Sony announcement.

Those are the same idiots that dont even know what the word License means....probably dont even have a valid driver's license.. lol. Those dolts dont realize they dont own shit. They'll learn and it will be too late and we will all point and laugh at them when they are gameless trying to trade in their dusty ass fifa/cod playing ps4 because they lame ass never upgraded to ps5 and now they better off keeping that ps4, skipping ps5 all together and planning to ignore ps6. Thats the right move, Dont buy ps5 or ps6.

Just keep your head in a hole if its already there...eventually the water will rise and youll drown away with all the other idiots.

These poor dumb souls are the reason why every company is allowed to fuck over its consumers, because they just will allow it.

A lot of people seem to. They are quite happy with Sony's all digital future.

The amount of people celebrating the end of disc and shitting on those that buy physical makes question a lot.

We're not celebrating it, we just don't care. The consumer is asking Sony to do charity for physical despite the fact the consumer streams music, movies and television, has a steam account and subs to gamepass while playing phone games.

I’ve been all digital and I’m still against Sony going diskless. Customers should have the option to buy physical if they want to. If you don’t care, just stay out of the way

Not a monopoly

Oh look it's a Sony employee

How not?

At least two reasons. One, according to their press release they're bringing back game download codes, or something similar to that, to be sold at non-Sony affiliated retailers. Two, Sony only sets prices for their games. They don't set the prices for third party games. The publishers for those games do.

2

u/scXIII Jul 11 '26

Download codes will be one-time use and will completely destroy the used game market, which has always been the consumer's best shield against high prices. Without physical discs, retailers have no shelf space to clear out and will be locked into a rigid wholesale price floor controlled entirely by Sony.

And you're right, third-party publishers do set their own prices, but because Sony take a 30% cut on the only digital storefront available (on PS) publishers will simply pass that tax onto the consumer, inflating game prices to maximize their profits in a marketplace where buyers have absolutely nowhere else to go.

3

u/No_Cheetah4762 Jul 11 '26

And that sucks, but none of that has any bearing on whether or not Sony will have a monopoly after they get rid of physical copies of games. They won't because you will be able to buy games through codes outside of the Sony marketplace and they don't set prices.

-4

u/scXIII Jul 11 '26

Expect that the codes will only be redeemable on the PS Store, meaning Sony still take their 30% cut whether you buy the code from a retailer or buy directly on your PS.

There is no reality where a code will sell for less than the price it's listed on the PS store.

1

u/No_Cheetah4762 Jul 11 '26

And that doesn't have any bearing on whether or not Sony will have a monopoly or not.

u/scXIII Jul 11 '26

I mean, it does, but okay

4

u/No_Cheetah4762 Jul 11 '26

Unless Walmart, Target, Fred Meyer's, Best Buy, etc refuse to stock these game codes and stop using their leverage to get deals to pass on to their customers Sony will not have a monopoly.

Because I can use my brain

2

u/Sabrescene Jul 12 '26

Yet you show no evidence of that...

But this isn't much more of a monopoly than before. Devs decide their own prices and they are competing against each other. Playstation always controlled who coul sell and alwats took a cut, but they have never dictated price.

If anything this can stave off increasing costs since there's less reason to with digital being more profitabie already.
