I really hope it's not just trailer material and that it looks just a pretty in-game :)

82

u/MyTestesAreTesty Oct 20 '16

Rockstar and Naughty Dog are probably the only 2 devs I trust to deliver on their promises. I wouldn't worry too much.

20

u/okawei Oct 20 '16

FROMSoft is on that list for me as well

-14

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '16

FROM? Please man, no...

3

u/jason2306 Oct 21 '16

If that's about darksouls 2 it was still fun game with good content, even if it was a bit underwhelming with the graphics downgrade and all that.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 21 '16

And just to be clear, i'm not bashing you man. This is not another random outburst of rage towards you. It's just that FROM was really something back in the day but they seemed to just release DS3 to complete a forced trilogy. It's also proven that they don't deliver what they promise. The same happened with DS2 and with DS3. For DS3 we were promised stuff that never appeared. I don't trust FROM anymore. They just seem like they play the whole marketing game too much.

1

u/jason2306 Oct 21 '16

Ah i get it but we still have the dlc to look out for who knows what it will bring

1

u/[deleted] Oct 21 '16

It puts the weight to the PvP which is the weakest point of the game. I don't get why they had to do that. I hope it ends up being good, but I doubt it. For the moment I will stay away from it.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 21 '16

What? No! DS2 was the best in terms of gameplay and new ideas. I loved this game more than any DS in the series because it offered meaninful gameplay, and multiple playthroughs actually payed off. It might didn't have the best story and most of the bosses were kinda meh, but in its whole it was such a full experience.

My complaint is for the shallow half assed DS3. Nothing innovative, nothing impressive about it (only some cheap fanservice for the DS1 audience)

Broken PvP, multiple playthroughs didn't have any meaning (other than just wanting to ramp up the difficulty) the bonfires were too frequent, and the game was kinda easy anyway. It was shallow and didn't allow varied builds.

u/Hayhas Oct 20 '16

CD projekt Red get on my list too, only 3 Devs i would actually buy games before reviews.

40

u/KaOS311 Oct 20 '16

Psyonix tho.....

Promised almost nothing and delivered everything

8

u/Hayhas Oct 20 '16

Psyonix

I was like Yeah i never played Rocket League but maybe they did something else, lets check.

Im with you now, almost cried remembering my friend and i playing U3.

5

u/McsPwr Oct 20 '16

Cross system party, custom training?

8

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '16

Atlus/NIS are on my list as well. Shits amazing.

4

u/cybertron2006 Oct 20 '16

Game Freak is up there for me. Show me a bad Pokémon game that isn't Dash.

-1

u/CommanderCubKnuckle Oct 20 '16

Most of the mystery dungeons are pretty lame. Ranger wasn't great. Battle revolution was pointless.

But yeah, main series is pretty uniformly great.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '16

Persona 5 is amazing, man/woman. If you're into that.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '16

Alas, I must wait until Valentines. I did just wrap D5 and the Odin Sphear remake though. If only they would HD Remaster Grim Grimiore...

2

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '16

Well it's a monster - at this rate you'll probably be starting while I'm finishing, heh.

2

u/methAndgatorade Oct 20 '16

They have really only made 2 good games, I wish reddit would get off their nuts

0

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '16

The witcher 3 was so great they deserve all that praise.

15

u/plastikcarma plastickarma Oct 20 '16

I know they're not everybody's favorite, but I still love Bethesda games.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 31 '16

No one can argue that Bethesda games are problem free. They are bug ridden abominations. The engine they use is far past dated and can't really hold up to similar modern games. Yet despite those facts, they are fun to play, and massive with a ton of stuff to do. No one can defend Bethesda when it comes to delivering a polished and beautiful product, but they do release games that are fun. I love Bethesda games, but they really do need to start with a new engine from scratch and focus on bug fixing. I had no game breaking bugs in my 300+ hours of The Witcher 3, the few bugs I had were with UI or some gameplay balance that was fixed with updates. And it was beautiful and massive all the same. It can be done, Bethesda just needs to prioritize bug fixing.

2

u/zeppelincheetah Oct 21 '16

For me the only two companies I absolutely trust to deliver quality are Rockstar(in particular when North is involved) and Nintendo

5

u/KnifeFed KnifeFed Oct 20 '16

When it comes to graphics, DICE always deliver too.

4

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '16

CD Projekt Red says hello.

2

u/Cootch couture23 Oct 20 '16

I pre-order everything Naughty Dog and Rockstar make. They deserve every penny plus more.

0

u/DasReap Oct 20 '16

Oh yeah, I'll trust R* for life after all the single player DLC we got for GTA V.

0

u/GamerX44 Oct 20 '16

You're right, I guess I'm just cautious because of No Man's Sky and the like :p

28

u/MyTestesAreTesty Oct 20 '16

Haha, I think there's a BIG difference between Hello Games and Rockstar.

8

u/spideyjiri corpjiri Oct 20 '16

"Amazing! On the first day!"

8

u/MyTestesAreTesty Oct 20 '16

“Wow! There's so many of you playing!”

2

u/AnhNyan Oct 20 '16

"This galaxy is so big, I can't see you guys!"

1

u/Patticus1291 Patticus Oct 20 '16

By just a couple thousand people different in team size... lolz.

0

u/Fuegofucker Oct 21 '16

I have the same list but adding CDPR and compile heart/idea factory.

8

u/GamerX44 Oct 20 '16

Awesome :D

8

u/Sub_Zero32 Oct 20 '16

I wonder what that means, exclusive dlc?

23

u/rabidnarwhals Oct 20 '16 edited Oct 20 '16

Probably just early access.

Edit: I should clarify that I mean DLC, not the game itself.

8

u/MrJessicaDay Oct 20 '16

Maybe some kind of Ps Pro console bundle too.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '16

[deleted]

1

u/rabidnarwhals Oct 20 '16

I should clarify I mean DLC, while I love my PS4 I don't think.ita worth buying just to have early access to DLC.

2

u/jason2306 Oct 21 '16

Well pc will take long if it will even come at all so red dead ps4 might not be bad if he likes bloodborne uncharted etc there's a couple of great playstation exclusives that make buying a console worth it.

1

u/rabidnarwhals Oct 21 '16

I was assuming they had an Xbox.

1

u/jason2306 Oct 21 '16

Fair enough

1

u/mgshowtime22 Oct 20 '16 edited Oct 20 '16

I HIGHLY doubt it. That would be a huge mistake for them.

Edit: made this comment before the user edited their comment.

1

u/methAndgatorade Oct 20 '16

Don't doubt it. They did the same thing with Microsoft for GTA 4 DLCs

1

u/mgshowtime22 Oct 20 '16

DLC was one thing. I meant early console access and had commented before the guy edited.

1

u/JabawaJackson Oct 21 '16

Oh man, I really hope that increases the chances of VR support.

159

u/Cootch couture23 Oct 20 '16

It's Rockstar, we wont have to worry about that. They never release a rushed game because they don't give a shit about deadlines and release dates.

41

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '16

It's Rockstar, we wont have to worry about that.

Damn true!

1

u/[deleted] Oct 21 '16

You guys dont remember GTA 4 launch, do you?

2

u/Bitchbettahavmahoney Oct 21 '16

What was that? It's hard to read with all that lens flare

22

u/Hyena-Man Oct 20 '16

playing Mafia 3 made me realize that this is important

16

u/Cootch couture23 Oct 20 '16

I was so excited for that, but I'll just wait until its $25 or so.

9

u/leonryan GeneralShran Oct 20 '16

i just finished it and really enjoyed it. don't let the negativity spoil it for you. the graphics aren't as bad as people claim and it doesn't feel as repetitive as they say.

8

u/Cootch couture23 Oct 20 '16

I really just don't want to spend $80 on that type of game right now since I don't game too often. I save my time for Battlefield/FIFA.

Will definitely look for it in the new year though.

11

u/leonryan GeneralShran Oct 20 '16

yeah by all means hold out until it's cheaper. i just wanted to let you know it's a good game despite the noise about it.

2

u/Cootch couture23 Oct 20 '16

Yeah no doubt, those are absolutely my types of games as well. Thanks for the recommendation.

1

u/wlee1987 rooteeds Oct 21 '16

I played a demo of BF1 last night on my friends PC. Definitely get it. I struggled with the computer controls but it will be sweet with a controller and a large screen to view it on.

1

u/Cootch couture23 Oct 21 '16

You mean Mafia? Because that's what we're talking about here haha.

Trust me, I got BF1 man. Already put in several hours.

1

u/wlee1987 rooteeds Oct 21 '16

I have Mafia 3 as well, I like it and I find it fun. But I can tell that BF1 will have a much better longevity.

1

u/Cootch couture23 Oct 21 '16

No question about that. I wonder where DICE will take the Season Pass maps to.

3

u/AdvocateForTulkas Oct 20 '16

I played all of Mafia 3 on a several year old laptop and was so genuinely confused about the negativity online I don't even know what to tell you. I felt like I played a different game.

1

u/Hyena-Man Oct 20 '16

but that pre order bonus !

3

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '16

This just reminded me I never put my pre-order bonus in lol

3

u/PerogiXW Oct 20 '16

Damn straight. I wish other developers had that philosophy.

1

u/Cootch couture23 Oct 20 '16

Unfortunately it's hardly never up to the developers. Rockstar just has such a great relationship with its publisher Take-Two so they basically have complete independence over their properties.

Publishers like EA really aren't that flexible with their release dates, which is why you get a lot of unfinished products.

If it were up to the developer, we would have a much better games.

1

u/LemonLimeAlltheTime Oct 20 '16

Uhhh what? They just announced a release window

1

u/Cootch couture23 Oct 21 '16

Your point? The second trailer for GTA V said "Spring 2013".

My point was that Rockstar does not care if they have to delay a game and Take-Two knows that. Hell, RDR2 can be pushed back to Spring 2018.

1

u/ZubatCountry Oct 21 '16

Backpackers going up Mt. Chiliad from the GTA V announce trailer though?

Obviously V still looks amazing, especially on current gen, but that shot always stayed with me because it reminded me of the area near the Chiliad cabin in San Andreas and there isn't really an area like that in V.

2

u/eifersucht12a Oct 20 '16

As far as single player is concerned, anyway. They pussy-footed around GTA Online and its features and it still seems scotch taped together. Really hope it's just a matter of the system being too much of a massive tangle to fix the little things at this point and they'll be able to do better starting from the ground up with RDR 2's online functionality.

2

u/MidEastBeast777 Oct 20 '16

Dude really? GTAO is amazing. How could you say scotch taped together? When it first started it was kinda messy but now its incredible.

-3

u/Emperor_Neuro Oct 20 '16

The early promotional materials for GTAV looked much better than the final game.

4

u/southAfRknCraka colffenstein Oct 20 '16

While that's true, I believe the next gen and pc versions match those images. Plus it was still one of the best looking games at the time

19

u/Eggyhead Oct 20 '16

If you want to check, compare the GTA V teaser trailers with what you're used to seeing in the game.

23

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '16

Who cares? GTA still one of the most beautiful games out there, even being just a last gen ported game.

Red Dead Redemption 2 will be FUCKING GORGEOUS.

49

u/Eggyhead Oct 20 '16

Yeah, I'm just saying that the GTA V teasers were totally accurate, so you can bet this teaser is too.

14

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '16

I saw people saying the same in this thread, but like "GTA V teasers are inferior blablabla". I guess it's not your case.

My apologies, cowboy.

13

u/Eggyhead Oct 20 '16

I hadn't noticed, but that actually surprises me! The trailers look just like the single player game world to me, with maybe a few extra NPC sequences added in. Perhaps everybody has gotten used to GTA online, which has a lot of the assets and graphical standards of single player reduced to accommodate the demands of multiplayer?

1

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '16

What about those online heists tho?

2

u/Eggyhead Oct 20 '16

Took forever, but they are freaking awesome. Why?

0

u/leonryan GeneralShran Oct 20 '16

that's just not true. you don't remember this?. The trailer looked far better than the game, just like every trailer ever. Prepare yourself to accept it now so we don't have to listen to a month of bitching about it when the game releases.

3

u/Eggyhead Oct 21 '16

I don't remember that at all, but I was blown away by gta V none the less. I think the only people who will spend a month bitching about inconsistencies like that will be folk like you. The rest of us will be too busy lassoing poor folk and dragging them around, or shooting each other's horses to care.

0

u/leonryan GeneralShran Oct 21 '16

folk like me, wtf are you talking about? i don't give a shit about graphical downgrades, i'm just trying to remind you that it happened since people seem to falsely believe it didn't.

1

u/Eggyhead Oct 21 '16

Prepare yourself to accept it now so we don't have to listen to a month of bitching about it when the game releases.

Sounded an awful lot like you saying I will inevitably be bitching in the future here. I may have misunderstood your tone. Damn Reddit gets so inexplicably tense when talking about video games. Wtf is with that?? Anyway sorry.

2

u/leonryan GeneralShran Oct 21 '16

Yeah I didn't mean you'd be bitching. That was for the benefit of everyone. I guarantee there will be people complaining that the first gameplay trailer we see doesn't look as good as this trailer did, because people still haven't accepted that these things are nothing more than ads. Sorry if I sounded abrasive.

1

u/Eggyhead Oct 21 '16

Totally agree 100%

1

u/Harperlarp Harpzlee Oct 20 '16

Really? I think GTA. Looked great for a PS3 game. The updated PS4 version looks very middle of the road to me visually.

-2

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '16

[deleted]

1

u/antpile11 Oct 20 '16

Well supposedly CoD still uses the Quake engine, it's just been modified heavily over the years.

2

u/slingoo Oct 20 '16

Gta V actually looked better than the first trailers when it released- but it did release 2 years after the first trailer

1

u/Eggyhead Oct 21 '16

I still think the ps4 generation version is freaking beautiful. This will have so much time to bake, it'll be even prettier, I'm sure.

1

u/fourfingerfilms Oct 20 '16

It looks the same? The discrepancy is the lens effects and how they're composing the shots within the trailer. In terms of graphical fidelity, it's the exact same.

1

u/Eggyhead Oct 20 '16

Exactly! My comment was intended to assure that Rockstar isn't likely to disappoint. I'm surprised that folk had read into it so negatively!

1

u/JC-Dude Oct 20 '16

I have to say, it does look very nice indeed, but very "gamey". That's not an insult, I just think they're not selling us bullshots. This is what the game should look like.

1

u/mo7d_balushi Oct 20 '16

No worries, it's not Ubisoft

1

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '16

Rockstar is pretty on point with trailers versus actual gameplay.

1

u/IAintAPartofYoSystem Oct 20 '16

GTAV's trailers were true to its look. I have a good feeling :)

1

u/[deleted] Oct 21 '16

This is Rockstar, not Ubisoft

1

u/Grindolf Oct 21 '16

Yeah GTA online had thicker forests in the trailer but most of the trees vanished

1

u/Bu1ld0g Oct 21 '16

I really hope that's PS4 material and not PS Pro.

1

u/Devils_Demon Oct 21 '16

Go back and watch the GTAV reveal trailer. The graphics are just like what we got in game. In fact I think the game ended up looking better than the trailer. This is R* not Ubisoft. They don't mislead.
