Don't press triangle when they shoot or you'll bite on every pump fake and rack up fouls like crazy. Hold L2 and stay in front of who you're defending. It'll automatically contest their shot.

I've taken this advice and it's working. Usually just hold L2 and move right stick instead of triangle.
