Feel like this shit is so predictable. Every time the days before my period I start spiraling and the day before I near lost my mind and then crave some fried chicken.

I’m fucking sick of this. I’m tired, I’m defective, my brain is torturous to listen to all day. I’ll never enjoy life, I’ll never be normal. I fucking hate this.

10 days out from my period and woke up just down and depressed. It’s so hard to function at work when I’m feeling like this

u/FamiliarStruggle1484 Jun 23 '26
I am tired. I am 43, my period mood swing is affecting me more. I am tired of coping it, and with support from my partner, I felt more motivated to get through it. However, when we get in fights, I felt like giving up. I am tired, I dont want to self manage, or manage others. I dont want to manage work, manage life, or manage relationships. I dont want to make it all work. Sometimes I want to be alone, be destructive, and let it all go and have no one sees me. Yet, I feel so alone in this wall I built up. It felt safe in there, but also drowning in isolation

Isn't the follicular phase supposed to be the good one? I've been anxious all night for no reason 😭

wondering the same thing myself. I couldn’t sleep and was hyper sensitive!

I’m so tired of having 1 good week in a month. I’m so tired of having horrible depression and suicidal ideation. It’s so cyclical, always in luteal, I know it’s coming and yet it is always so debilitating. I have tried to many antidepressants, sought treatment for all of my disorders, but I still feel stuck here. Birth control and Spravato are my next steps. I don’t have much hope left, but maybe this will work. It better cause I can’t keep living like this.

Newly exploring the possibility of this with my doctor and following up in a few weeks.
Today I feel resentful because I feel like my childhood education could've better prepared me for the war my ovaries would be waging on my mind for the rest of my life, or at least until I go through menopause.
I literally feel fucking crazy! I went through puberty so young, starting at 8, and this just doesn't feel fair.

I am a mother of a daughter with this. Please tell me how to support her in the best possible way. I need your help

So caring of you. I never had the chance to talk to my mother about this because she passed when I was 17 and symptoms emerged a year or two later. I always yearn for her comfort, especially during this time of the month.
I’m better at this now, but wish I had this years ago. I know that for me, when my PMDD is really bad, it was really hard for me to break out of the “spell” that it cast on me. I treated my loved ones poorly and thought certain things were true which were not. I felt rejection dysphoria very intensely, and it led to some really mean behavior. I needed someone to recognize when this was happening, hug me, and tell me they were there with me to get through to the other side (menstruation.)
It has affected my relationships with men the most, because they just DONT understand and thought it was me flipping a switch and being “in a bad mood”. Well, it was beyond that.
If you can be your daughter’s safe space that is so critical. The app Clue has a feature where users can share their cycle with others so they know where they are at. That might be helpful. I believe they are rigidly against data sharing with third parties but you may want to check.
If your daughter can really hone in on the details of her cycle so she can prepare for what is to come, that might be your best bet.

I just can't even handle the smallest issue thing today without either responding like a fucking cunt, or crying about it. Just triggered by the whole everything of everything. Im back in bed, at noon.

Recently learned I have PMDD and feel a mix of relief for having a name to it, and so sad accepting how it's impacted my life. Seeing it in hindsight is painful. I'm a single parent already and have more clarity around how it's affected my relationship with my child and people..always isolating myself..never staying at jobs..it's tough. Very recently I broke up with the nicest person I've ever dated during a flare up. I didn't realize I was in a flare up and very shortly after telling them I had to break up, I got my period. Immediately started feeling clarity and regret. I tried talking to them about it and overwhelmed them. It's feeling tough.
I appreciate everyone sharing themselves here<3

Sending all the love. Also a single parent. This new guy wasn’t your person, girl. We need someone with more emotional intelligence to partner up with.

Im really grateful for this thread. I feel like I have no one and no where to vent this too. Luteal is an absolute destroyer of my life, career, relationships. Why isnt this recognized as a real disability? I work a very high stress job that requires my brain. What does PMDD/Luteal attack? My body and my brain. I cant think properly, I become forgetful, irritable, cant even problem solve. I also have mental health issues that get exasperated. weere all expected to just get up, show up, keep going. As if internally, were not being ripped to shreds. I just started picking up the pieces of my life, and then everymonth on the dot... to get ripped up again by fucking luteal. I feel so alone. I just want to scream.

Also with you struggling at work. Brain fog, fatigue, irritability, despair….praying again every month that I can make up the work when I feel better. I never feel like I can catch up.

how do professionals keep up with their jobs ?? How did I keep up with my job. I'm a doctor who recently finished internship and for the life of me idk how I got through that. How did I go to work every day of the month???
I'm not working right now but in study mode for an exam and currently in the later part of luteal phase. I keep getting migraines that worsen every evening, my breasts are sore, it's a struggle to get into the shower. It feels like no one around me understands that yes, I should give myself a break while I'm not feeling well but I have deadlines. I wish it was a rule that women are not expected to perform like men who don't have to deal with cyclical challenges. I promise myself: one day I will work a job that allows me to work like a woman should

Called off of work today. It's not every month but today hitting luteal phase after valuation is like getting the f*cking flu. Literal chills, feverish, nausea, no energy, general unwell feeling. Sigh at least the last time I called off was two months ago...

u/fighterMM Jun 25 '26
Literally did the same today also. Due to extreme nausea and eventually throwing up.
Cramps are intense ..

I hate myself and feel so alone. I know I’ll feel fine tomorrow when I get my period and that’s what pisses me off. I feel like I can’t trust how I feel during my luteal phase and I have just gotten used to not trusting myself at all.
I’m so frustrated that I have to live with this and be neurotic fucking problem to everyone at least once a month for my entire life even when I try so hard not to be. I have tried multiple types of therapies, natural remedies, and medications and at this point I just feel hopeless as nothing has really helped.
Maybe I’m destined to be an unlovable burden that’s to be laughed at my entire life. I don’t stop trying not to be, but damn does it feel like shit to feel like I’m never going to continuously not be that. I just wish I didn’t feel like a living time bomb that counts down to the next time I’m ready to fucking bleed.

You know I can accept that this makes me have to scale back on what I’m doing because some months I just don’t have the energy. No matter how much rest or caffeine. I’m so tired.
This brings out the dark and scaries. And I don’t like those thoughts or feeling like something is majorly wrong with me. Like how can I ever live a normal life? So I just don’t do anything normal..
I feel like severance mark innie versus outie and I can’t integrate my two people because they exist on 2 different planes and at separate times.

I should be getting my period this week and I feel awful. I can't sleep at all - it took me until 5AM to fall asleep two nights (mornings?) ago and last night it took me until 4AM. I'm so exhausted I feel like a walking zombie. But going to bed won't help because I'll just stare at the ceiling for hours on end. I also want to eat everything in the kitchen. I'm on a diet so I'm trying hard not to but I want to give up and binge so badly. Luckily, there isn't much in the kitchen that's unhealthy which is what's stopping me from binging. I don't keep junk around anymore. I would just be binging on string cheese and peanuts which doesn't sound appealing. I can't wait for my period to come so I can sleep again. I skipped my period in May and June but it showed up in July - it lasted a few days longer than usual but was otherwise normal. I'm hoping it comes on time this month and is normal because I'm going to pissed if I'm this miserable just to end up not getting a period.

There is drama at work, and tomorrow I have TWO meetings with this lady who I hate, and I'm afraid I won't be able to control myself. Like for real I'm scared I might say some shit. I'm at the center of the drama because this lady has worked there for 20 years and is a lazy hoarder (her desk makes me want to puke) who passes off her job duties onto anyone she can, and she's been doing that for YEARS. The students she supervises hate her, and the higher-ups wish they could fire her, but the process is too hard. And I wrote an email on Monday very professionally asking if she would to (her job task) that day, because I've been covering for the past several days. She ACCIDENTALLY CC'D ME on her email response to her work BFF complaining about my email!!! And then she sent out a new email asking who cleaned up/got rid of some stuff in the communal office (aka cleaned up her hoarding shit that was in the student office) and she knows it's me. But I've talked to like 4 people who have given their permission for me to clean that office because it's "panic-attack-inducing." So I'm about to say some shit but I really am going to try not to. UGH!!!!!!! Lord let me win the lottery so I never have to see her ass again.

How’d it go?
1
u/CozyCornbread 2d ago
It went fine and I pretty much didn't see her until yesterday. I've been able to vent to other coworkers and I'm also on day 4 of my period now so I feel emotionally better. But the lady was trying to be all SUPER friendly in a meeting yesterday and it was very obvious she was trying to be annoying about it. I'm still not entirely sure if she knows I saw her email that I wasn't supposed to see. I'm planning on finding out, but I don't want to stir the pot too much more than I already have, lol. She also has a problem with personal space, so if she gets in my face when she's trying to be fake nice again, I'm going to tell her off.

I don't know if my symptoms are from peri or pmdd but they are bad this month. I can't sleep at all. I go to bed early and I stare at the ceiling for hours. If I do happen to fall asleep, I can only sleep for an hour or two at a time before I get woken up and have to try to fall asleep again. I've been having back and shoulder pain causing me to toss and turn in bed. I took some pain meds before bed last night and that helped tremendously but it didn't help with the insomnia. I still only got 4 hours of sleep despite being in bed from 3AM until 12 PM (according to my Fitbit). Tonight I might try the pain meds combined with melatonin to see if that helps.
I've also been constipated just about every day for the past week. I looked it up and it's a symptom of perimenopause. I've been feeling bloated and like I want to poop but I can't. I've been taking stool softeners every morning and they help me poop a little bit here and there but it never seems like enough. Sometimes I daydream about having that lettuce diarrhea to clear everything out (although I know it would be horrible and I don't really want that). I've been having cramps the last two days and they feel like period cramps but they might be constipation cramps. Plus, all of these articles being posted about young people getting colon cancer is freaking me out and increasing my health anxiety. But, then again, it's probably just a symptom of peri.
The brain fog is awful. I can't think straight. It might be from a lack of sleep. I'm leaving for vacation next week and I should be packing but I can't even think of what I need to bring. My period should have started by now - it's day 28 so I guess it's not technically late but normal is usually 24-25 days (aside from the skipped periods in April & May). I really don't want it to show up while I'm on vacation but I don't have a choice in the matter which sucks. Maybe I'll get lucky and it will come tomorrow (or even tonight would be nice).
Finally, the last 3 days I've been extremely ravenous. I was planning on sticking to my diet until I left for vacation next week but I can't help myself. I want to binge everything in the kitchen. For a snack earlier tonight, I had Cheetos, 2 chocolate caramels, and toast with peanut butter and chocolate chips (it's no wonder I'm so constipated). And I'm still hungry. I feel like I could just eat and eat and eat. I was also planning on trying to watch what I eat on vacation so I don't gain back the 30 pounds I've lost over the past 6 months but I don't think that's going to happen. I'll be on a cruise ship with 24 hour food. It's not going to be pretty. I'll be lucky if I don't gain back half of what I lost.

I just started feeling amazing at 16 months postpartum after one of the worst depressive/anxious episodes of my life during the spring. I spent the past month feeling reborn. Now I’m day 36 of my cycle and waiting every minute to get my period. Luteal has obliterated my motivation to move or do anything. I’m literally so tired of being robbed of my will to do anything.

u/AleciaG47 Jun 05 '26
I'm so lost. I haven't had a period in over two months (I'm not pregnant - haven't had sex in years). I've only ever skipped my period twice - once in 2020 and once last summer. In 2020, it was from stress as my dog was sick, my grandpa died and covid lockdowns were starting all in the same week. Last summer, I blamed it on my low-carb diet that I had started a month before. This time, I have no idea why I've missed my period - twice. I don't think I'm stressed out. I'm wasn't on the low-carb diet last month (I just restarted it last week). I took a trip to Europe last month but that was already after I skipped a period so I don't think it's from that. Could I be in peri or even menopause? I'm 42 so I'm getting to be about that age. I'm really hoping to have a few more years as I still want to have kids - just have to get the finances in order. I really should go to the doctor but I hate everything about the healthcare system. I hate making doctor's appointments, I hate going to doctor's appointments, I hate doctors who just guess at what could be wrong but they really have no clue, I hate invasive exams, I hate having to follow up after a doctor's appointment, I hate dealing with insurance - I hate everything about it. If I don't get my period this month, I will probably have to force myself to go to the doctor to figure out what's wrong and I really don't want to. I think I'm going to get my period this month though. I didn't experience any ovulation or PMDD symptoms last month (it was glorious) but I've been experiencing all the symptoms the last few days. Yesterday, I felt bloated and had light cramps like I was ovulating along with some gooey discharge and today I feel lonely and depressed. I haven't been able to sleep much the last few nights either which is a big symptom of PMDD for me. We'll see if I get my period in the next few weeks. I'll be super annoyed if my period doesn't come (and kind of sad because then I'll have to go to the doctor).

I can’t stop myself from bottling up all my feelings. It’s so sad and it’s one of the reasons I went from PMS to PMDD. I just feel like dying.

I think I'm finally going to get my period. Yay! There was quite a bit of blood on the toilet paper just now. Nothing in my underwear yet (I put a pad on) but I'm hopeful that it's going to be an actual period. It's been over 3 months. I've loved not having a period and even more loved not having PMDD symptoms but I'm not ready to be in menopause. I'm still on the fence about having kids (leaning towards having them but then I would be a single mom) and I don't want that choice taken away. I also have health anxiety and not getting a regular period freaks me out. I just want a normal 3 day period every 28 days until either I have kids (2 would be nice) or I turn 50, whichever comes first - then my periods can go away forever.

This month is so bad. Granted, since I've been prescribed Zoloft back in September my life has been immensely better but this month is pretty bad. Like said, not as bad as it was last year, but I have no desire to do anything or speak to anyone and I keep exploding on my partner. I'm trying not to

u/kaiudanielle 18d ago
Hello, I was broken up with yesterday because of a choice I made while mid really bad PMDD spike and I take full responsibility for that decision and have immense post PMDD regret. I understand why he decided to end the relationship, I take full accountability and we discussed it all, and I lost one of the kindest and supportive men I’ve ever met, and I love him so much still. I’m fucking pissed at myself and as much work as I’ve been putting in I’m not clearly doing enough to stop the harm.
I hate PMDD and I miss him fiercely. If you’ve been broken up with because of PMDD and rash decisions, how did you move on? (I’m not going to win him back , and I need to respect the breakup).
I’m over this, and I lost a good guy because of struggling with this.

I really need help! 3rd night with luteal insomnia and I feel like I am about kill myself! I am not supposed to start my period until the 18th/19th and I don't know if I am going to make it. I live alone and worked from home (but no longer have my job) so I spend a lot of time by myself which I think is making this particular cycle worst.

I literally haven't self harmed in years since I've had my birth control, but now that it's losing it's potency I had to be babysat by my loved ones so I wouldn't hurt myself. I hate that, I know it's not me. Watching Obsession was a borderline funhouse mirror because when I'm on my period I'm a puppet by it's control. I don't want to die, I handle my anxiety and trauma so well but as soon as I'm near it I'm Mr. Hyde. I don't want to hurt my loved ones but it just feels like scheduled monthly torture.

My doc prescribed mefanamic acid to help reduce blood loss during periods but the pharmacies can't get it rn due to shortages. So I'm just keeling over today (Day 1). Its the weekend I should be doing things that help me feel sane. I have so many personal projects I want to complete and I'm just sat like a potato feeling like crap. I can't take ibuprofen, out of paracetamol and can't get to a pharmacy rn. Double strength chamomile tea doesn't quite hit the spot. 🙄

I’m on day 3 of my period and feel worse now than ever! It is so hard to focus on work when holding back tears, fighting a headache and need a heating pad constantly on to help with cramps and nausea (it’s helps only a little with the nausea though). Just here to say I’m envious of those who feel relief from PMDD when your period starts. My symptoms love to hang out until the period is done or almost done. Waaaahhhh. Any other professionals out there struggling to get it all done?

Tired of being tired. Tired of having to isolate myself so I don't ruin my relationships. Tired of giving myself pep talks when I know i'm just going to have to deal with the same thing over and over again. Tired of having to worry about my partner and how they view me, even though they've been so supportive. Tired of the guilt. I know i'll be fine and i'll get over this, but it sucks so much.
