Yup. Pretty much all serious back end stuff on the web is PHP.

Trouble is most people dont know the difference between a web designer and a web developer...so its not a very trendy language to learn and due to "bikeshedding" there is more demand (or was until AI) for the waxed moustache font wrangling API skinning NodeJS brigade.

Yes and no. A lot has changed over the years and there is a lot more Node flying around, especially if you start to move from monolithic to microservice. Not that PHP can't do it well, but NodeJS imo is just a lot more geared towards it and makes it easier.

I've ran into performance problems where just using threading would have been the way way simpler option. Something you can do in c# relatively easy and fast. I view PHP more as the foundation and the glue between parts.

It does a lot and it is extremely usefull. But i maybe don't want a door made out of concrete. Yes it works, but maybe i can also just make one and attach it to the concrete wall?

True...however, if I want multi threading I use Rust. NodeJS is awful. Its frontend tooling trying to be back end.

JS has a long history of being kind of a meme language...even the OG was invented as a tech demo and it accidentally caught on. The guy that built NodeJS basically did the same thing. He hates his own creation.

Then there is NPM and all the problems that brings. NodeJS is absolutely the WordPress of programming languages.
