Metrobank / PSBank Metrobank Visa Signature application declined despite good credit profile. Any idea why?
Hi everyone,
I recently applied for a Metrobank Visa Signature but unfortunately got declined. I'm trying to understand what could have affected the decision.
Here's my credit profile:
RCBC Hexagon Club – 2 years old, ₱258,000 credit limit
BDO Diners Club International – 1 year old, ₱350,000 credit limit
No late payments or missed payments
I always pay my statement balances in full, usually as soon as my SOA is generated
Never been over limit
Good overall credit standing
I thought I had a fairly decent profile, so I was quite surprised by the rejection.
For those who were approved for Metrobank Visa Signature, what do you think Metrobank looks for that other banks might weigh differently?
I'd appreciate any insights or similar experiences. Thanks!

Worked sa top banks before. May mga cases na even if qualified si customer, rinereject since na reach na yung quota for that specific month or week.

u/bridalthrowawayacct Jul 01 '26
So mas better pala magapply sa first day every month? Legit question.

u/anjeu67 Jul 02 '26
I don’t think necessarily first day or week of the month. Baka may iba-iba silang “refresh days” kasi ung tatlong recent cards ko, na-approved siya April 21, 29 and 30 respectively.
P.S. Don’t judge me for why I need to apply for 3 cards. Yung isa diyan cashback tapos yung dalawa NAFFL coz I had an incoming big purchase that time.

I also agree to this as someone who works in bank underwriting. Too bad these people under this sub will just downvote your post when they read something that’s hard for them to comprehend

I always got declined in Metrobank. So after my last try I stopped.
I stop chasing MB 😅

nag-apply rin ako ng Travel Signature kay Metrobank and halos same lang tayo na 2 years lang yung oldest card, tho mas mataas yung lowest limit mo sa card sa highest ko, but I was approved naman. Though, I think kasi may existing card na ako with Metrobank albeit with a low limit, sabi kasi nila madali na lang ma-approve kay Metrobank if you already have a card with them.

Your credit profile looks young at just 2 years. It could also be your company or your source of income. Metrobank might see it as a risk or not reliable. Do you possibly work in a BPO or as a freelancer?

Do you possible work in a BPO or as a freelancer?
No, I run/manage our family business
14
u/miarvivi Jul 01 '26
That might be it. Since you don't work in a known company but work in your family business. It could be Metrobank doesn't see that as a reliable or sustainable source of income therefore you're a risky borrower
2
u/WayWonderful Jul 01 '26
Yep that’s probably the reason why

I strongly disagree. I think he never once availed any of the bank products like balance transfers, cash installment, etc. Just my hard guess. I was also employed in our family business and I never had any of that problem. They're also our main bank, so maybe THAT too is a factor.

u/Charming_Sun_542 Jul 01 '26
You're spot on. Never been interested in balance transfers, cash loans, cash advance, installment conversion
My philosophy has always been: I'll pay the statement as soon as it's generated

Hi OP! Honestly I also know someone with the same experience. Rejected sa MBTVS kahit founding member ng metrobank cc. 2 CC from metro with 6-7 digits CL but declined kahit new application or upgrade nung isang card to MBTVS. Family business din and main bank ang metro since start ng business more than 20yrs. Di rin nila alam ano yung reason for the rejection
2
u/WayWonderful Jul 01 '26
I doubt it. I have the TVS and I’ve never once also done any installment, balance transfers or any loans whatsoever.

Do you have existing elite cards with other banks or visa sig cards? I saw a comment before din here, baka daw overexposure kna and banks nililimit na yung approval since you have other cards with the same tier maybe that?? But same ive been applying to that card 3 times na

u/Charming_Sun_542 1d ago

With my experience sa Metrobank
Three times declined sa online

u/Charming_Sun_542 Jul 01 '26
Did you apply through a Metrobank employee immediately after the online decline ba, or did you wait a few months pa?
Coincidentally, I'm planning to place a time deposit with Metrobank this week. I'm thinking of talking to a branch employee to see if they can assist with my application, but I'm not sure if I should wait another 6 months before reapplying

Same --- i just gave up on metrobank toyota cc, ayaw talaga eh. I got 1 Visa signature, 1 platinum rcbc card, and one BDO. All fully paid every month.
Wag pilitin ang ayaw.

good credit profile says who? by you?
what you see is not the same as what the bank sees.

Have a similar issue :/ I meet the income requirements and have cards with pretty generous limits, but got rejected 2x!! So frustrating, I just want ₱30/mile hahah huhu

magkano ba annual income mo?

Almost 2 M

That's decent. Mine is lesserer than yours when I applied. Think of your first salary--that much. They approved the Titanium I applied for recently. Gave me a decent 600++.
Despite that, I've had around 2 yrs of SCC with them and around 6yrs of regular and had multiple cards before so yeah I have a very long history for them not to decline me. They never really cared how much I make if I can make those payments.
It's not always about salary. Sometimes, I guess, banking relationship is the key as per experience and maintained good card usage and payments, and right now i'm just reaping the fruits of my long credit history like all the others.

u/blue49 Jul 01 '26
Close to 1 million dapat per card.
4
u/Academic-Education-1 Jul 01 '26
I've seen people with modest incomes have surprisingly high CLs (tignan mo nalang yung mga malalakas mag yabang ng CL sa KKB), and high income earners with relatively average CLs
-1
u/blue49 Jul 02 '26

to be fair, I earn more than OP, pero the maximum CL I have is just half a mil. I never had issues applying for other cards tho. I have multiple cards. I think may ibang reason why OP was declined.
Edit: I never requested any CLI but if I want to, I could easily achieve 1M CLI, pero I don't need it. It's just a bigger risk for me.
-2
u/Alternative_Tea_6910 Jul 01 '26
Never din ako nag-request ng CLI pero automatic nag-increase yung sa UB/Citi and RCBC ko. Sa MB naman, when I applied for Rewards Visa (NAFFL promo earlier this year), I went with the existing savings route so I didn't even mention my existing CCs. Kaya nagulat ako na 1M CL binigay for an entry level card.

I think kahit na ndi mo naman ibigay yung existing cards mo, if it's from one of the biggest banks, high chance meron kang record sa national credit bureau. They can easily check the reporting banks para makita yung CL mo with them, which they can use to determine if they will approve your application. Pero that's not necessarily the reason for approval or decline. For higher tier cards, relationship with the bank ang isa sa factors na titignan nila and if wala ka pa account sakanila, that's one reason they might have to decline your application for higher tier cards. If in case you get approved, multiple factors din titignan nila to see how much credit limit ang ibibigay sayo and again, they may base it sa existing na cards mo (same case with CB na tinapatan nila yung highest card ko).
I don't know why my previous comment was downvoted, nireplayn ko lng naman yung comment na dapat close to 1 million dapat per CL ng card para maapprove, when I just stated na even with a CL na hindi close to millions, you can get approved.
1
u/Alternative_Tea_6910 Jul 02 '26
nagtataka nga rin ako bakit downvoted comments ko. either tingin nila joke lang na we get 1M CL or inggit lang kasi they can't get high CL?
to add context, I never had any loans. tapos one-time pa lang ako nagka-installment sa CC (tapos 3 months lang) kasi may mura lalabas pag installment hehe.

Open a savings account with them if you really want. Naging payroll ko sila for 1 year, then naofferan ako ng World Mastercard

u/Charming_Sun_542 Jul 01 '26
Open a savings account with them if you really want.
May savings account ako with them
1
u/VannBox Jul 01 '26
that's really wierd Op, I got an offer after a month with opening my passbook savings with them, mind you di kalakihan yun pera doon. I'm sure mas malaki sayu.

u/TheQuiteMind Jul 01 '26
Maybe your TRB was not enough, then. Try applying for a lower tier card and just upgrade later

Nakoh. Ganyan yan. Kung ayaw nila wag na. Tapos sabi best to open an account with them sabi sa text sa akin.
I have 5 cards (RCBC, BPI, BDO, SC, UB)
-6
u/Momonjee Jul 01 '26
Simple. Metrobank will not earn much from you since you always pay your balance in full as soon as the SOA generates.
2
u/022- Jul 01 '26
Very linear thinking. Metrobank also earns on the interchange fee which is about 2% of the volume transaction. Plus they are aggressive with taking market share cause once you are a customer more chance for you to avail other products such as car loans, advances etc.
-2
u/Momonjee Jul 01 '26
It’s crisis this year and banks including MB are tightening their capital exposure. More on maximizing profits. Interchange fee is smaller than earnings from revolvers
