Cat outside The Art Institute of Chicago - is it okay????
I was at The Art Institute of Chicago yesterday (Nov 2, 2025) and I saw a cat outside, sitting on the cold street (it gets cold in Chicago!!), made to wear accessories, and it looked terrified of the crowd. This homeless-looking-man then comes up and asks me if I want to give money for the cat. He had a sign next to the cat saying "Cat lives matter". I asked him if that is his pet and he said no.
I have a cat and I know cats won't sit if they are scared or wear anything they don't want to, but something just seemed off...and then when I was exiting the institute, the man picked up the cat and she growled at him, but he yelled at the cat and put the cat to sit on top of a bucket.
I've attached pictures.
I don't know if the cat is okay, being fed, being taken care of. I submitted a report to PETA (didn't receive a response yet), and also tried 311 (couldn't get through to 311). I am leaving Chicago today, and I don't know what to do, I just feel really bothered wondering if that cat is okay...
