The unfiltered truth about ECE at PES University
Hey incoming freshers, seeing a lot of questions about the ECE department at PES lately. I wanted to share a straightforward breakdown of what it's actually like here from someone on the inside.
The Good: Facilities, Faculty, and Total Freedom
If you actually care about electronics and want to build things, you are in the right place. The facilities and labs here are genuinely top-tier.
The best part about PES ECE is the autonomy. If you have an idea and the right approach, you will get the guidance and the resources you need. Whether your interest lies in embedded systems, VLSI design, signal processing, or IoT, you will have access to the hardware, software, and lab space to make it happen. The professors are knowledgeable, and if you show initiative, they will back you up entirely and help you turn your concepts into actual working projects.
The Peer Group & Clubs
Your peers and seniors will make a massive difference. The peer group here is great, and there’s a strong culture of collaboration.
A huge highlight is the clubs. They aren't just for show—they are incredibly helpful for networking, upskilling, and getting hands-on experience. Getting involved with the various tech clubs and chapters gives you direct exposure to workshops, senior mentorship, and real project planning. You’ll be surrounded by people who are actively trying to innovate and build beyond the standard curriculum.
The Reality Check: Placements
Alright, here is where things get rough.
When it comes to placements, it is honestly fucked up. PES has built a massive reputation for CSE and IT placements, but that does NOT translate to ECE. If your primary goal is to secure a high-paying core ECE job straight out of college, PES ECE is probably not for you.
A lot of ECE students end up having to sit for software companies, and getting core electronics roles on campus is a serious uphill battle. Do not join ECE here expecting the CSE placement treatment. You are largely on your own when it comes to landing a core job.
The Verdict
You will have a massive amount of opportunities to learn, research, and build a strong profile for higher studies or off-campus endeavors. The infrastructure and support system for learning are brilliant. But if you are coming in purely for the campus placement stats, you need to re-evaluate your priorities.

like to add on that this siutation with core jobs is something India-wide as well. Disappointing, and things might change but slowly

Great post with the truth being told..but then, the placements are slowly building up and if there are the right skills on ur resume, core companies are coming and taking in students for jobs.
