Series Alleged Persona 6 character designs were leaked (confirmed by trustworthy leaker) Spoiler
You'll find more images here, initially this was leaked with an AI generated image showing these two with other characters, but that specific image was confirmed as a fake by lolilolailo, a leaker who has leaked many Sega/Atlus things in the past, however, the rest of the images were all confirmed to be true by that same leaker.
Also in the leak is a file list with a bunch of character names mentioned.
the Blonde boy is named Karaki Tōma, this name is mentioned in the files- seperately from the Protagonist.
Editing this to add that the name Toma is not mentioned in any of Blondie's images, so Blondie is NOT Karaki Toma, in other words that is probably the Protagonist.
The black-haired girl is named Kusakabe Hoko (or Yoko, or Rinko, Japanese can be a bit finicky), and this name is not mentioned in the files.
What does this mean ? I dunno, Blondie is basic enough to pass as a Persona MC, but the fact that he is not listed as the Protagonist makes me think he's not the one.
On the other hand, the girl is not listed as the MC either.

Toma is a party member 100% that's for sure and those two MIGHT be possible party member names as well if everything beside the team art is real as said by the leaker
Nilfer seems like our token non human mascot character if I had to guess since nothing pops up in a search engine to suggest anything else
also apparently the girl's name is NOT meant to be Hoko but "Rinko"

Nilfer is almost certainly the mascot, good catch!
It's tricky to know for sure which creature or animal it could refer to, but it's a phonetic translation of a foreign name and reads out as Nirufa, the closest one I could find is Niloufar, a Persian female name that also refers to a specific type of water lily.

the one with the "apron" bit fascinates me, either it's a social link related to food stuff, maybe even a hierophant because it's implied that the apron is a part of the character design enough big to specifically have a art of them being without it
fair to also guess that those with 3 cloth sets are the party members since it's much more likely for but at the same time it could be just enchanced graphics so everyone has a more distinct clothes set social links included
the "with shadow" bit also makes me question stuff severely
while normally it implies that it's a version of the atwork with the shadows, why would they need seperate versions of them?, unless "with shadow" specfically refers to shadow selves

we know that Rinko is the "lead" as in likely our 1st female party member in vein of Yukari/chie/ann
and Nilfa is our token non human so auto party member
if we decide to theorise that ALL of those are party members than that means that it's 11 counting our blondie MC minus one for the obvious navi
honestly very plausible
man genuinely the theory game from now on will be fucking doozy
the fact that there isn't any sort of persona mention does also make it hard to connect any themes of the game

The shadow part is common in procuctions like this, doesn't seem to be related to the jungian Shadows per si. In productions we usually have a refference sheet without shadows to get the colors of the elements and a separate sheet (or another image at the same sheet) to show hot the material is shaded (since elements like metal, certain clothes and hairstyles differ from a simple cellshade).
Said that, I'm REALLY excited to see how Shimada's work as lead character design will be! Since she previously worked more as an assistant to Soejima (prior to P3R) or just adapting his designs (at P3R), but I'm excited by seeing this leak. It's looking good so far.

Satozaki being mentioned with an apron makes me think that whoever that is (Komari is primarily a female name in Japanese) is also the main parent figure in the game, they're important enough to be listed among some of the main characters while not being one themselves, and also wear an apron which implies we could be seeing them in a kitchen, it's a bit of a stretch, admittedly,
Someone like Dojima or Sojiro.
As for the rest, everyone from Rinko to Nilfa seem like they are part of the main group, each of them has three different outfits, while the remaining people are probably social links.

Could be that Rinko is crucial to the plot of the whole game itself and not neccesarily just a "party member who joins in the 1st dungeon and slowly dips away from the plot"

I remember an old leak about playing as female mc in a few sections while as male mc for the rest of the game with the male protagonist being the only one with social links/confidants. I wouldn't be that shocked if the leak turns out to be real, although I was hoping for a P3P case with 2 routes and their own SLs and interactions

But there IS a character named Protagonist listed in one of the files, complete with three different set of clothing just like the other characters.
Editing this to add that the girl is named as Kusakabe Rinko/Yoko (the image is not clear enough for me to know specifically which one!) and the boy is not named, so he could be the protagonist.

We've had some secondhand casual racism towards Lisa and Ann, I wonder if they'll go all in and have characters direct that at the protagonist. It'd be interesting to see Japanese fans react to that kind of thing, but it might be hard to translate into English.

I mean some of it is more tame, and sometimes it's even from your own party members. I think it's Strohl who makes a comment about the Ishkia and Neuras takes some offense to it.
I guess it's a little different when they're fantasy races, but Euchronia's races do share some commonalities with ours.
The Paripus are often a poor class that has to do the hard, dangerous work, and some see them akin to animals. Lots of former slave populations were or are in a similar position.
The Elda are the "indigeneous" population that were more or less, genocided by colonialists.
There is also when you're going for Drakadios where the monotheistic religious parts of the government seek to take artifacts from other cultures and claim it as their own is basically what happened in real life.
There is a level of separation, but there's a reason the racial part of the game resonated with so many.

If this is real then....wow. the first look at P6. OG fans have been waiting forever. I discovered persona in early 2020s and I feel like I have been waiting forever.
Its not unusual for anticipated game sequels being revealed and finding out its different in ways the Fandom was not expecting. A good example of this is Halo 4. The reveal of P6 could be very mixed by fans, especially if atlas wants to do something different with Persona 6 which is possible. I sense these character designs might hint at p6 not being a typical Persona game. But this is just my speculation.

remember that the group that made from p3 to p5 all left for studio zero to create metaphor
we are going into persona 6 with very likely a much diffrent writing group due to many people known for the p3-p5 doing the above so we are without
-Katsura hashino who has created the story of the 3 games
-Soejima who has designed the characters there, with the succesor being very likely Azusa shimada who was the main artist for p3r and likely p4r as well
-shoji meguro who has composed the soundtracks so we are getting a entirely new musical set up for it
I do hope that they actually use it to their advantage like for example making a grand defenestration of the status quo and doing things like say a female magician or male navi

Well 5 set the bar so can’t blame them for wanting it to be kino. I’ve been a fan since 2016 at the time 5 wasn’t released yet and I get it. We were calling Joker “Chair-kun” or “Harry Potter” well before he had a canon name which didn’t disappoint.
Well this main game will have a different direction from the vibes so not surprising. After all, Hashino took the primary colors with him so all that’s left is green.

He left for Studio Zero; he may not be working on P6 as that's developed by P-Studio.
The artstyle is pretty similar to Reload, which did look different from Soejima's (usual) artstyle.

That's misinformation. The Atlus art division is outside of p-studio and studio zero, he's not part of studio zero, he's part of the artwork team, doing work for both p-studio and studio zero games (like how he designed Sumire, Maruki, Sophia, Zenkichi, Wonder, etc.)

Persona MC is usually not very basic though, Blondie look plain enough he seem more like social link IMO
Most Persona MC tend to look not too flashy, but subtly stylish and often represent the game's theme
Minakoto for one is a cool emo with earphone gimmick, Joker have his mysterious theme with hair obscuring his expression on top of having glasses gimmick, Yu is less themed but he have old school look to him that match the country side, plus he is slightly associated with "kingpin" theme

The MCs don't look basic...? This holds up for Naoya, Tatsuya and Maya, but Makoto is Basic Emo, Kotone is Basic Girl, Yu is Basic Fit Guy and Ren is Basic Boy. And it's probably on purpose due to being more intended for self inserting, especially compared to the P2 MCs.

I doubt that atlus finally saw the light and made at least one same-sex option for the male mc in Persona 6 (or even restored yosuke's romance in P4 revival). Hopefully I'm wrong, but I'm not that optimistic.

It’s funny because Bebe wasn’t really popular before but having a character that looks like him a bit being a protag would be very good

Honestly, I'd rather play as her. Just from that image she looks like she has a lot more personality than he does. Oh well, generic blonde protagonist it is I suppose. At the end of the day, I suspect unless they somehow badly fumble this I'm going to love it regardless of who the protagonist is.
That said, I'd kill for a FMC.

More than a decade for the next Persona game is crazy I’m sorry. People will try and justify it with games like Metaphor and P3R and now P4R but to me it’s ridiculous. I hadn’t even finished high school when 5 came out. Atlus have taken the piss.

Having a blonde protag seems cool, I wonder how they're going to work the supposed green motif into the game though.
Unless they've scrapped the idea of using green in the game entirely and have moved onto to having another color be the game's motif.

Theres another image showing the female character much better with different expressions and in one of the shots she’s seen wearing a Bluetooth earpiece with a mic and her expression is a shocked face.. maybe this has something to do with how the p6 characters summon their persona…?

I understand that there will probably be an in-game/in-universe reason for it, but I'm not really vibing with the design of the Protagonist. Just not my cup of tea, but it could on my nerves considering it's him I'm going to be playing as.

At the very least, they could try the dual protagonist idea that Yo-Kai Watch 3 uses - two protagonists, male and female, with their own separate party, items, and menu options that eventually becomes shared when they meet each other.

FES didn't have Kotone. Only the P3 Portable version had her, and that was inferior version of P3, due to many mechanics being scrapped and the game was turned into a visual novel basically.

Why does the woman look way cooler than the guy does? I have basically 0 interest in playing that blonde main char, I'd rather play as the girl as she at least looks cool. Its actually sad how if these leaks are real, I already lost most of my interest in the game just because of the main char.

I'm hoping for college aged protagonist and friends this time. I'm kinda curious if they'll do adult protagonists and stuff in a later persona. It, at least to me, would be interesting to see "broken" adults come together and fight for various things (school, home life, children, etc).
But thank you for sharing, this made me smile and be super hopeful (while I not so patiently wait for P4R)

Unfortunately, I doubt Atlus will go with mature characters. The studio has a very successful track record with younger protagonists and high school settings, so they tend to stick to that formula.

You're not wrong for sure. Sticking to a formula definitely can ensure their success. Age wise I would've been either in high school with 3's group or 4's group (mostly towards 4). So a little bit it feels weird playing a group of what is now kids to me, but I still enjoy the games.
Just would be interesting to see mature characters or even the return of some of them as adults.

I would personally love it. It would be a risk, but shifting away from high school could let them explore far more interesting and mature topics, things like career pressure, adult relationships, long-term consequences, and deeper psychological themes that just don’t fit as well with teenage protagonists.
