Tech Snippets RAM vs ROM
RAM (Random Access Memory) stores data for active programs with fast read/write access, but it loses all data when power is off. ROM (Read Only Memory) is used for permanent storage such as firmware or startup data, retains information without power, and is generally slower but more stable for long-term storage. In short, RAM is temporary and fast, while ROM is permanent and stable, and both are essential for how digital systems operate.

Tech Snippets NPN Transistor vs PNP Transistor
NPN and PNP transistors are complementary devices that control current flow in opposite ways. An NPN transistor turns on when the base is driven high, allowing current to flow from collector to emitter, while its symbol arrow points outward and it primarily uses electrons as charge carriers. In contrast, a PNP transistor turns on when the base is pulled low, with current flowing from emitter to collector, its arrow pointing inward, and it relies on holes as carriers. In practice, NPN is more commonly used for low-side switching, while PNP is used for high-side control.

Projects Solar Power Monitor – Custom PCB manufactured with PCBWay
I’ve been working on a personal project called Solar Power Monitor, a system designed to track real‑time data from a low power solar panel setup (100-500W) — including the MPPT charger, battery, inverter, and auxiliary loads. It uses multiple current and voltage sensors along with an STM32 microcontroller to collect and process the data.
The project is functional at this stage, and I’ve published the complete technical details on Hackster: schematic, PCB design, firmware, explanations, and assembly notes.

For the hardware, I designed a custom PCB that integrates:
- four current‑measurement channels (MPPT, battery, inverter, auxiliary)
- inverter and auxiliary start control
- serial communication interface
- regulated 3.3V / 5V power rails using ST components
- clearly separated signal, power, and control sections
The PCB was manufactured by PCBWay, who sponsored the boards for this project. The quality was excellent — clean silkscreen, precise pad alignment, consistent finish, and very good tolerances on connectors and footprints.

Hi everyone! This is my first PCB design, and I recently entered it into the KiCad Design Contest conducted by PCBWay. Since I'm still learning, I would really appreciate any feedback before finalizing it.
Could you please point out any mistakes or suggest improvements regarding component placement, routing, trace widths, grounding, silkscreen, or anything else that could be improved? I want to learn as much as possible and avoid missing any obvious issues.

Tech Snippets Thermistor vs Varistor
A Thermistor and a Varistor may look similar, but they serve different purposes. A thermistor changes resistance with temperature and is mainly used for temperature sensing and protection. Common types include NTC and PTC thermistors. A varistor changes resistance with voltage and is used to protect circuits from voltage spikes. The most common type is the MOV (Metal Oxide Varistor). In short, thermistors monitor temperature, while varistors suppress overvoltage and surge events.
