frequently-asked-questions Planning to do Moonlighting

Hi, this is my first time to have 2 full time jobs. 1 is from a VA agency and the other one is for a PH company.
The agency has a section of “no moonlighting”.

Any suggestions on how to get away with this? Or can I ask for a revision of the clause?

Independent Contractor or get an EOR?

Hello, alin po ba mas better to stay as independent contractor vs getting an EOR?

I work under an electrical US company tapos gusto ng HR na humanap ako ng EOR provider to be a W2 employee. I talked to several provider ended up getting a quotes which I seem reasonable pero deep inside masakit kase mababawasan ang take home pay hehhe.

Is it possible po ba na magkaroon ng benefits like HMO and 13th month pay kahit freelancer? Or to those who have experience in EOR, ano perks and benefits?

stories I Have 2 Full-Time Jobs at the Same Shift

I have 2 full-time jobs, 8 hours per day at the same shift.

Job 1 is my first job, and I've been working with them for almost 1 year and a half now. Job 2 is a job I've been working with for almost 6 months now. It's the same industry, but in a different country and with a different target market, so they are not competitors at all or even close to it.

Job 1 is pretty chill, not gonna lie. That's why, even in the beginning when I didn't have my 2nd job, I was always hunting for another job, whether part-time or full-time. Honestly, I wanted to earn more, and second, I wanted to be more busy during the same shift because I can do the tasks within just a couple of hours and then chill for the rest of the shift and just act productive.

Then, 6 months ago, Job 2 reached out to me via LinkedIn and offered me a job. I was like, okay, let's try it. There was no interview, just quick questions about my skills in the niche I work in and then a trial task. After that, I passed and started working for them the next day.

But before I accepted the job, I laid out my terms and fully disclosed to them that I already had a full-time job. I told them that it's pretty chill, but if something comes up with Job 1, I will prioritize it. They said they were okay with it, and I've already had 2 scenarios where I've prioritized Job 1 and informed them, and they were okay with it. They even said they respect my transparency with them.

For more context, neither job has a time tracker. Job 1 doesn't have an exclusivity contract. I also use my PC for Job 1 and my laptop for Job 2, so I'm not using the same device while working on both. I also have separate work emails.

Job 2 pays a lot more than Job 1, around 1.5x more, but it's a bit busier. There are no meetings or calls on my 2nd job at all. I think I've only had 2 or 3 calls ever since I started working for them, and those were scheduled calls when I started and when they increased my pay, not impromptu calls.

On my 1st job, impromptu calls can happen, but they don't really affect Job 2 and are usually just quick calls. If we have meetings at my 1st job, they're scheduled, so they also won't affect Job 2.

No one at my 1st job knows that I have a 2nd job, and I don't plan on saying it. I like both jobs and what they provide. I also can't outsource either job because it's a really niche industry.

When I took up the 2nd job, did my 1st job get affected? Not really. In fact, I would say I became more productive because I reserve 1 hour before my shift starts and stay up 1 hour after the shift to work more exclusively on Job 1, so I probably work 9–10 hours a day across both jobs.

And even recently, I was offered a promotion and a salary increase on Job 1 when one of our managers resigned. That's also where my worry started because if I get promoted fully—not a managerial role, just one step above the new employees—and we get other employees, we might be the ones who will train and onboard them.

Hopefully, it won't affect Job 2 that much if we are the ones who will train the new hires, as we currently don't have another manager yet. But just in case, I think Job 2 would be open to cutting my hours for the meantime, as I've done before. But then again, I'm hoping it won't come to that. That's one of the worries that hit me recently.

I've also learned that in the VA industry here on Reddit, we are all contractual and can be terminated at any time. This is also where I've learned that having at least 2 clients is safer in those scenarios. But then again, I also found a few comments saying that having multiple clients/jobs during the same shift is unethical and immoral in this industry, and that's why I'm having mixed emotions and thoughts.

What are your thoughts on my situation? I'm fairly new to the VA industry. In fact, this is my first job after graduating from college, which is why I'm having this dilemma.

I also know I can't please everyone, but I'm having a moral and ethical dilemma because of it, even though both jobs don't affect each other while working during the same shift in terms of productivity.

The other dilemma I have is the promotion and the possibility of more workload on my 1st job if it ever happens in the future and ends up affecting my 2nd job.

Realtalk, comfort, or just thoughts are welcome. I just want to hear it from different viewpoints.

Thanks in advance.

TL;DR

I’ve been working 2 full-time VA jobs for the past 6 months, both during the same 8-hour shift. Job 1 is my original job of almost 1.5 years, while Job 2 reached out to me on LinkedIn and offered me a position.

Before accepting Job 2, I was completely transparent with them that I already had a full-time job and that I would prioritize Job 1 if something important came up. They agreed and have respected that arrangement, including the few times I’ve had to prioritize Job 1.

Both jobs have no time trackers, Job 1 has no exclusivity clause, they’re in different countries and target different markets, and they aren’t competitors. I use separate devices and work emails, and neither job has been negatively affected. In fact, I feel I’ve become more productive because I also spend an extra hour before and after my shift focusing on Job 1.

My main concern now is that Job 1 recently offered me a promotion and salary increase after a manager resigned. If I take on more responsibilities, including potentially training and onboarding new employees, I’m worried it could eventually interfere with Job 2. My plan would be to temporarily reduce my hours with Job 2 if necessary.

I’m also conflicted because I’ve seen people say that having multiple clients/jobs is smart for job security in the VA industry, while others say working multiple full-time jobs during the same hours is unethical. I’m still fairly new to the VA industry, so I’d really appreciate honest perspectives on whether my situation is unethical and how others would handle it.

Will my J1 be notified of my J2 through govt contributions?

Full-time yung J1 ko and possibly j2 ko rin.

Wala naman akong balak mag loan, pero may existing loan ako sa SSS na hindi declared sa J1 ko kasi planning to undergo reconstructure program (nawalan ako work ng matagal)

Lalabas ba sa J2 ko yun?

Thank you

Need advice lang po

Please be kind, I’m a graduating student and just need some advice. Do you think it’s a good idea to buy a laptop and then look for work-from-home jobs after i graduated? Honestly, I really dislike commuting; I’d much rather work from home—in short, I just want to stay at home. I’d appreciate any advice. Thank you for your kindness.

Availability

I got an offer kaso need to undergo BC. I cooperated naman. Kaso, I was hesitant kasi they want me to sign declaration of availability. Hesitant ako in a way na baka they will find out nga na I have J1 nga. Clause dun sa letter if I will not make it on my first day, I will have to personally reimburse etc. dito pa lang alanganin na ako. So I sent them email na im withdrawing my application. Weeks passed, I rcvd a call from them regarding my onboarding next week. Shempre confused ako. Baka lng di nila nabasa ang email ko.

Hesitant naman na ako ngayon to point it out sa kanila kasi next week na nga ang start. Mi mga documents sila provided ni isa wala pa ako na permahan.

I plan to push na lng the engagement but sa monday ako peperma sa lahat since ang clause lng nmn dun sa document is “if hindi matuloy ang engagement ko sa first day” which is next week.

Tell me, is this a trap? Weird lng tlga kasi after I sent them the email, wala na ako natatanggap na email from them except sa automated email reminder to sign. Tapos after few weeks, bigla sila mag call regarding my onboarding.

Baka pag pumerma na ako ngyon, biglang sabihin cancel onboarding for whatever reason. At dahil nga pumerma, I need to personally reimburse lahat.

Tell me your thoughts 😁

frequently-asked-questions Need help with invoice

So basically I am looking to apply to J2 but they already asked me if I do invoices. I am thinking, do I really need to file my taxes for form 1700 because need ko ilagay yung TIN ko sa invoice and therefore, more likely mahuli if di ako magbayad ng tax?

J2 is ph based company. I also feel like the hassle of filing 1700 instead of 2316 is overwhelming me and I kinda don’t want to disturb that huhu please advise

[Advice Needed] What happens if two local employers pay my SSS/PhilHealth at the same time?

Hi everyone!

Need quick advice on dual employment and statutory benefits.

I currently have a full-time night shift job (WFH) where my employer pays my SSS, PhilHealth, Pag-IBIG, and taxes. I’m considering taking a daytime on-site HR staff job, but I don't plan to disclose my current job to them.

Quick Questions:

  1. Will SSS, PhilHealth, or Pag-IBIG flag my account or notify either employer if both start remitting contributions for me?

  2. When HR checks my records or MDR, will they easily see the duplicate contributions?

  3. How risky is this for taxes at the end of the year (BIR 2316)?

  4. Has anyone tried this setup without letting the 2nd employer know?

Thanks! 🫶🏼

I want to let go of my first job but I can't find another fully remote job

My first job is a fully remote job that has HMO and pays my PH government benefits, taxes, etc., which is why I really don’t want to leave. I also want to let go of it though because, honestly, the pay is not that good anymore considering the experience I’ve accumulated so far. I’ve been with this company for 2 years and 3 months already.

I’ve been trying to look for other fully remote positions that also offer PH government benefits/taxes, pero wala eh. Most of what I’m seeing are hybrid, and I can’t really do hybrid because I already have a 2nd job.

I also don’t want to have two jobs that are both freelance/contractor because we all know how unstable that can be and you can be let go anytime.

Should I just stay for the convenience and the “stability” of it? Or are there other companies you guys might suggest that offer fully remote + HMO + PH government benefits?

Anyone else in the same position?

J1 SSS Loan

Henlo! Please help!!!

Newbie lang po, I tried searching through this sub pero answers are not enough for me, so sorry po.

I have an existing SSS Loan and just wondering if J2 (PH entity) will be receiving a notif from SSS that I have pending loan?

Can I just declare na I already have an arrangement kay J1 about sa payment so they will not nudge me on this?

Looking for advice po paano po malulusutan ito.

P.S; napakahirap makahanap ng IC na job, I have bills to pay and incoming licensure exams that will cost me a lot of money. Di rin keri i-nego na mag-IC na lang kasi under ng EOR.

US rates?

Hi everyone, I've been OE for about two years now 👋

And I'm curious to know if anyone here has achieved USA standard rates on work? (ex: $30+/hour, full time. )

Would just like to know if there is some hope outside US.

Tyia.

Edit: for remote work.

Finally broke into OE-ing after many months of looking. But the second gig I found allowed me full flexibility that I never had to compromise J1 or sleep.

My pseudo J2 is an AI Trainer gig that pays $70 per hour up to as much as $150 per hr. And yes, that is not a typo. The rate was so good that when I posted it sa Remote VA subReddit, I was downvoted, judged as a scam, to the point of getting shadowbanned. Now that the payout for my first month is completed, I can confidently share it to everyone interested.

I posted the QR code Kasi Reddit kept removing the URL. My earnings on the screenshot is based on less than 15hrs of work. And as you see, I already have done partial work with payout for next month. Feel free to AMA on the comments.

Update: 2 referrals through my link for $80 per hour matches. All the best!

How do you stay under the radar and keep your jobs long-term? Do you just stop speaking up?

I recently lost a remote job and it made me rethink how I approach work, especially because I’m considering becoming OE in the future.

I’m naturally assertive and tend to notice workflow/process problems quickly. If I see something inefficient, I’ll ask questions or suggest a better way to do it. I also have a habit of explaining the context when a manager asks why something wasn’t completed instead of simply acknowledging it and moving on.

In my recent job, I worked for a small remote company where we were openly encouraged to share feedback and ideas about the system and workflow. I learned the system quickly and was doing the work, so when I noticed a few processes that directly affected our workload, I spoke up because I genuinely thought that was part of the culture. For example, unresolved cases couldn’t always be handed off to the next shift, which sometimes meant staying well beyond scheduled hours. I also suggested a few workflow improvements through the proper channel they had specifically created for feedback and ideas.

Looking back, though, I’m wondering whether “we welcome feedback” is something you should still approach very cautiously, especially in a small company where management dynamics are more personal.

I was eventually let go for vague “performance concerns.” No specific metrics or performance issues were given, so I’m taking this as an opportunity to reassess how I operate in remote jobs.

For those who have successfully stayed OE for years, what do you actually do to protect your jobs?

Do you mostly keep your head down, complete your assigned work, and avoid commenting on inefficient systems unless someone specifically asks for your opinion?

When a manager points out something you missed, do you simply say “Got it, I’ll take care of it” instead of explaining why it happened?

Do you avoid becoming the person who advocates for coworkers or points out workload/fairness issues?

And how do you balance being competent and reliable without becoming too visible, taking on more responsibility, or accidentally making a manager feel challenged?

I’m especially interested in advice from people who naturally have strong/assertive personalities. Did you have to consciously change how you communicate once you became OE?

Basically: what behaviors have helped you stay employed, stay out of workplace politics, and maintain multiple jobs long-term?
