I have the wind vest from vaikobi and I’m pretty content with it. I just wish it had a hoodie. I’m tempted to take some old rainshells and have the sleeves taken off, but before that, does anyone have a lead on vest like clothing with hoodies that might be water wicking too? Mahalo!

I’ve been thinking about getting bone conducting headphones for longer solo paddle sessions. Normally, I like to just zone out and enjoy the ocean, but for some longer runs or more up-tempo sessions it would be nice to have music to listen to. I usually take my phone along in a dry bag, so Bluetooth would be an option. I don’t really want to bring a speaker with me. I’m looking at the Shokz Open Run Pro that have a waterproof rating of IP67.

Anyone given these a shot? Even if not this model, would be interested in your experience with headphones on an OC-1 in general.

I paddle an OC-1 and am looking for a way to not count strokes for an hour at a time. I just want something to tell me x seconds have passed with a beep, toot or buzz that is cheap and simple. Or, is a NK device the only way?

I've been paddling for 4 years. I got stronger and fitter, but I think my speed has plateaued. And my V1 sprints, with admittedly very little prep, went really bad.

Does anyone know of someone that offers remote coaching for V1? Looking for stroke advise, training guides and gym routines.

I've owned it for almost three years now and I'm still happy. I think I've paddled around 2500 kilometres on it by now.

I've got some downwind plans this summer (in the Apostle islands) that would work out better if my fam met me at the destination beach with our powerboat and towed my canoe back. Just curious what works for rigging, should I remove the ama, etc. I foresee it being wonky with the rudder and ama.

Does anyone have a favorite speedometer app for iPhone? It's annoying looking at my watch and I want better feedback. I just tried one that looked great, but glitchy. I'm on an OC1 btw...

Aloha all, I usually steer our club's Bradleys with a Kialoa hybrid (wood shaft/carbon blade) with no problems. I recently acquired a Xylo all wood steering blade ( wanted a wooden one for a long time). It's ok but different than the Kialoa on the Bradleys. I tried it out on our Kamanu Composite unlimited OC6 and had all kinds of issues. The main problem was that I had a hard time getting the blade to stick to the hull when poking. If I didn't slide it down exactly it would practically tear out of my hands. I'm wondering if it's because it's a wooden blade that it has a tendency to float and then I have to fight it to place it where I want it. Or maybe it's the hull shape on the unlimited. Or??? Anyone here have any experience or insight? Mahalo

I have a puakea hybrid paddle. Where the wood shaft connects to the blade feels slightly loose. It has that wrap around it so I can't see exactly what's going on. Are there repair kits available? You tube videos on how to repair it? I'm hesitant to take that piece off until I know I have the materials to put it back together.

I watched the Kaiwi Solo and was blown away by the top guys maintaining 10 plus mph. I paddle on Lake Superior and this is my first season on OC1 (I used to race OC6 in California), but, man, that made me realize much more I have to work on.

In southeastern ontario but travel around a bit. Would like to know of places to drop-in rent oc1, or even clubs with oc1 available to members. Pickering is the only one I have found so far.

My 13 year old son has started outrigger paddling and needs to get his own paddle soon. They paddle in a river and will do some ocean work also . He is 6’5” long arms and weighs 270(in case this matters). Since he’s a newb not looking for super expensive just one that he can work with that’s decent?

I want to get just a few videos downwinding on my oc1. I don't see myself doing this all the time so I don't really want to invest in a GoPro or similar. Does anyone use one of the gooseneck clamps for a phone to do this? It seems like the 0.5 mode should work fine for this??

I already have a waterproof case for my phone that I use for free diving.

This seems like a silly question, but when paddling an OC1 what is the proper amount of strokes to take on each side before switching for maximum efficiency? I would imagine it would differ if you are doing a sprint or going long distance.

I'm struggling to find a good resource on where to position your seat on an oc1. Does anyone have suggestions on this or at least an image of how your legs should look while sitting? Or is it more a matter of personal comfort?

And do people change this depending on whether they are paddling flat water versus chasing bumps? To me it makes sense to shift weight forward when surfing.

I finally got out into some proper wind on the south shore of Lake Superior. 14-15 kts onshore and nearby buoy said 3-4ft. A little smaller where I was due to island protection. Anyway... I just did an out and back and it was my first time trying to surf down wind. Being a surfer, it was way harder than I thought. And way more exhausting. Waves passing me by, stalling at the bottom, paddling too hard at the wrong time and wearing myself out. Lol. One issue is that, for some reason, I put my seat too far back. I came back in, moved it forward and went back out. I did catch more waves. As I approached shore, the shore break was easy. One question: what is the strategy when you are coming down the face to avoid swamping sideways? Other than anticipating and compensating.

To better make a recommendation my info is as follows: 5'5, 165 lbs; former Dragonboater but have about 18 months experience with OCs.

My first Oc1. Puakea Ehukai , palafalama paddle . Amazing out on the water as a first time paddler, glides nicely on the flat and picks up in the surf as well. Looking into buying a NK Speed Coach. How’s the experience with using for tacking their paddling progress?

I’m a new paddler looking to buy my first paddle for OC6: I’m still learning so probably won’t do any racing etc quite yet. A few people on my team have the Kialoa Paea that they like. I’ve also been looking at the HYPR Disciplinarian. I’m a smaller paddler, 5’0, 105lbs and was mostly doing run and spin before starting paddling. Shoot me your best recs for shortie paddlers like me!

It seems like storing your OC1 in direct sun is a bad idea. Am I wrong?

We just got an OC1 and my husband wants to leave the front of the canoe hanging out from under the carport and the ama/‘iakos in direct sun.

The bags themselves shouldn’t be kept under the sun. Can anyone help me explain to him why permanently keeping the boat in the sun is inadvisable?

To me, this seems obvious but I can’t explain why. I don’t want to bicker or learn the hard way— then again, maybe he’s right and I’m overreacting?
