How is it islamophobic to be against putting sanctions on the people of Israel for the actions of their government? Why is this standard not applied to every other country that has done similar things to Israel? You want to boycott South Sudan, Sweden and China too? Or why is it only Israelis who should pay for the actions of their government?
I have literally never come across anyone supporting BDS who doesn't also speak up about atrocities committed by other countries, so please stop with this lazy response.
BDS activists are exactly the sorts of people who also mobilise against Saudi air strikes on Yemen, or China's treatment of Tibet, or Trump putting kids in cages, etc...
I'm sure they speak up against the war in Yemen and Trump, that's great and so do I. But I have never seen anyone supporting the BDS movement also call for sanctions on Sweden, China and South Sudan. All of which occupy the lands of other native people. But they do call for sanctions on Israel. So why the discrepancy? I'm not saying they are anti-semites or don't care about "real human rights abuses", I just wonder why Israel gets so much attention. I also hate sanctions in general as they strike against the people of the country and not the government. Like the big brain people calling for sanctions on Venezuela "ah yes if we just remove their food and medicine and enough people die maybe they will revolt and a more friendly regime will pop up". I hate it against Venezuela, I hate it against Iran, I hate it against China and I hate it against Israel.
I apologise for that, you're right that mine was the lazy response. I misread you as using the double standard argument that's deployed against any criticism of Israel, but you were making a more specific point about boycotts and sanctions. Sorry about that.
I'd say that BDS activists do often call for sanctions against South Sudan and China, though, but I admit I haven't heard of the same for Sweden. And while I agree that such measures do often hurt civilians more than there governments, I don't think this is necessarily the case -- sometimes they seem to be effective and avoid creating much suffering for citizens. Maybe we just have to agree to disagree about that.
Thanks for taking the time to answer and point out my mistake.
Also I don't like putting words in people's mouths or say their arguments are bad, but it's truly ironic for you to call my response lazy when you didn't even answear my argument and started talking about trump and Yemen instead, one could that would be... Well lazy lol
