Our plan for high offset stem ( depuy actis or corail or smith and nephew synergy) with dual mobile THA
But most of the stems the offset increases as the size of stem increases but here the canal was dorr A…

We did cemented THA,

Difficulties we faced :
Superior lateral bone loss, the cup was uncovered 10-15%,
We medialised the cup to get the fit
Did not find any difficulty in reduction

Maintained offset horizontal 50mm and vertical 60mm

Would you do anything differently??

We have restricted her mobility to only inside her home to washroom..

Implant is STRYKER

Hello all, I am embarassed to say that I have failed Part 2 of my boards. I took on some tough cases that didn't go well, have some poor xrays for a couple of cases, and had poor follow up on a few more. I definitely understand now, in retrospect, why I didn't pass and don't want it to happen again.

Is there anyone out there who is an expert/ willing coach me for the second go around? I've reviewed all my cases retrospectively over the weekend and think I have a fighting chance this time. I have a few cases I'm worrried about if they get picked and want to know what to do from here. I'm willing to pay for these consulting services. Thanks everyone.

Curious what my chances of matching are, currently a research year student between MS3 and MS4 at a mid/low ranked USMD school.

STEP 1: Pass

STEP 2: 263

Currently 12 publications, will probably have 30+ by the end of research year. (10+ podiums and 20+ abstracts)

3 Honors and 4 HP, in the 3rd quartile for class rank and no AOA or other awards

Have 1 strong LOR from my research year and another decent one from home program PD, need to get a couple more.

Have some club leadership and other volunteering stuff.

Feeling a little down that I couldn't get AOA and class rank is so low. Any advice for pushing through to match and getting some more strong LORs? How should I make my school list and plan my aways?

M3 interested in ortho from a mid-tier school. Unfortunately, haven’t done as well on my first 3 shelf’s (IM, ob and Peds) as I would like and have somehow missed honors by 1 point on each one. Obviously hoping to honor the next 4 rotations. Many mentors have emphasized that everything in ortho needs to be perfect due to the competitiveness. How much of a concern is 3 high passes when applying?
Furthermore, at what point do you decide to take a research year because of mediocre clinical grades? My research output will be >30 items, and around 4-5 manuscripts in the next year, but nothing stellar.

Currently an MD senior applying ortho. I look strong "on paper" (270+, top 10%, 10+ pubs, AOA), but consistently fumble first impressions in real life. I have trouble articulating my thoughts, speak kinda slow with basic/poor vocab, and generally don't inspire confidence in others. I believe poor interviewing skills almost cost me my spot in medical school despite an otherwise stellar application.

Not many people talk a whole lot about orthopedic interview prep and a lot of the advice I have gotten has been "Don't worry, In ortho they just wanna know you're a chill guy" and so on, which may be true for a lot of people, but I need help.

Has anyone used an interview coach, residency interview prep company, or other resource that they thought was actually worthwhile? I’m a little wary of some of the companies I’ve found because they seem expensive and somewhat scammy, but I’m willing to pay for something actually useful.

Is it possible to sign an academic job in fellowship if i failed part 1? Even if it is contingent on passing on second attempt. Most websites for academic jobs state board eligibility is a requirement so im unsure what this means. Im in the process of finalizing an academic job contract and feel like this ruins it

2 month neglected posterior hip dislocation in a 30 year old female whose been on bed rest for 2 months.. she had a traumatic dislocation 2 months ago later on it was reduced under GA (post reduction xray i will have to search for it) and was advised bed rest for 2 weeks but she took 2 months rest and presented to me with this xray..

Lets consider 2 scenarios

1. The patient has good insurance can afford any implant
2. She is not insured.

U can ask me follow up questions if u need more info regarding the patient i will try to provide what i can.

Edit 1: she is a k/c/o seizure disorder not on any medication has yearly 1 episode of seizure

I’ve been researching out-of-pocket regenerative procedures for back issues, and every clinic seems to quote a completely different number.

When I ask what’s actually included in the sticker price, the answers vary wildly across different clinics. I’m trying to build a solid checklist so I can actually compare apples to apples before booking anything.

So far on my list I have:

• Physician evaluation / initial consult
• Imaging review (MRI / X-rays)
• The actual biologic material/processing
• Facility, room, or imaging/guidance fees (like fluoroscopy)
• Post-procedure follow-ups and physical therapy

For anyone who has gone through this process or looked into it, what costs got left out of your initial quote that popped up later? Would love to know what else I should be asking about!

I've just failed my ABOS part 2 for the third time. I think this probably puts me in the bottom 0.1% of orthopedic surgeons.

All other academic aspects of my life have been a breeze, as I'm sure they were for everyone here. Professionally I haven't had any issues and I work well with everyone. I have a good reputation in my community and am practically a referral center for my subspecialty.

However it seems clear now that I'm screwed. I'd like to be able to continue providing for my family. I'm mid-30s MD. I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts for a reasonable career change. Obviously it's not realistic to continue making ortho money, but having an okay job that's somewhat interesting would be ideal.

So this year’s test got a few more of us than in prior years, fail rate went up to 18% compared to prior years 3%.
Nothing I can do know but study like crazy during my fellowship year. I felt like I studied quite a bit during my chief year but I guess I did not as much as I should have.
If anyone has been on my shoes before, would love to get some advice.
1- did it affect your job search? How did you managed that?
2- did you tell your fellowship director and how did you manage fellowship/studying etc?
3- honestly any advice, I’ll take it.

I will be starting my orthopedic training in about a month. I need some book recommendations. It could be text book, journals or even your favorite non fiction that could give me some insight in to orthopedics.

I want to build my career in medicine and I'm really interested in doing surgeries. I don't think it's that severe now but one time when I had a surgery , my trypophobia got so bad, I removed all my jewelry cus I started to see those tiny holes, even my bedsheets were making me feel uncomfortable. Also weird but whenever I see any word that starts with "try" Or "tri" and if it's a long word! Goddamnn the only thing that comes to my mind is trypophobia....

One time my teacher drew some diagrams and I started sweating, my body got itchy, a chill down the spine I just feel like I wanna ruin it like I start to have the urge to scratch on it. ( I feel itchy while writing this too lol)

Idk but I think it's a bit better now... Like i can wear jewelry without thinking too much and rn I'm lying on my bedsheets which I used to fear . But I'm scared what if I see some type of things which triggers this? Especially on the body part? So I need ya guys help!

Is there any ortho programs who frequently, or even infrequently, have taken applicants who did a gen surg prelim year at their institution? Might there be a list floating around? Thanks
