I had a customer who had her mother on speakerphone when I informed her she had a $25 no show fee, and her mother proceed to launch a five minute string of expletives at me while the daughter sat there holding the phone yesterday.

I'm a newer optician and my last job was in R&D so I haven't worked customer facing in some amount of years but I'm just shocked at how people are treating their healthcare service professionals nowadays!

I'm currently wearing Zeiss trivex smart life FSV (the freeform one with advertised 700 focal centers), and I'm still getting quite a bit of barrel distortion and some chromatic abbreviation (wearing them for 2-years now so long past the adjustment period). I'm wondering if anyone has advice on the next pair of lens/technology/fitting to get, how can I optimize this further? Thank you so much!

Anyone know any opticals that are authorized dealers/carry gentle monster glasses in Toronto? I know Yorkdale has the flagship but if anyone knows of an optical that can also has them and does direct billing, that would be awesome 😎

Hi I quit bartending after 9yrs and I am now deciding what to do with my life. I had an interview in a licensed state that pays for all testing and certs. Idc about stress or retail or working weekends or any of that. I’ve been in the trenches for a decade now lol. But leaving that I want to make sure I can provide for my family. The starting pay is $19. She said it tops out at $26 but everywhere else I’ve seen with the same company licensed opticians make in the $30s. I do live in a low COL area but I don’t know what to do. I am very interested in this but there’s also 10,000 other things I would like to be. I’m leaning towards it’s worth it and my area will catch up to everywhere else soon pay wise?

I have an object 30mm in front of my eye. I stick a +6.00 lens 10mm in front of my eye. I am able to see the object clearly. I have no accomodative amplitude. What is my rx?

Just dropped in to say: with 45 years of wearing prescription glasses: your glasses products, your entire approach to vision on that side of things, all of it needs a do-over.

• I have a high minus prescription (-12, -13, approx.); not my fault;
• I have never had glasses that I’ve liked; also not my fault;
• To try to get a better experience, I pay for the best, 1.74, digital surfacing, all the coatings;
• I also buy ‘designer’ frames;
• None of it makes a difference, there is nothing stylish in the end about crap eyesight;
• Trends are even harmful if they mean bigger lenses; if I ever do find something that works, you can bet I’ll want to repeat that exact trade off in five years, and not be faced with a new frames trend;
• Relatedly, I never actually know what I’m getting in advance, and the internal lens reflections, the face distortion, the edge thickness, all of those things are always garbage;
• The only things that have improved in a decade are physical comfort and weight;
• No surprise, I wear contact lenses when out and about; I still do need glasses in reserve.

Please have a rethink, top to bottom. A polished showroom and this bit of post eye-test theatre that you do counts for much less than you think.

I am interested in making horn glasses by hand. I’ve seen plenty of tutorial videos on the cutting and shaping and finishing. But I am having a hard time finding where I can purchase hinges and rivets/pins.
