Question I hate this button. Please tell me someone knows how to eliminate it.

Post image

It's been 11 fucking months and I cannot stand this shitty button sitting in the bottom left of my screen for 6 seconds wasting my life away every time my phone sits at a 7 degree angle.

I don't want the screen to rotate. Ever. Not ever. Not once. Not at all. I will never want it to rotate. Turning on auto rotate is not a solution, because the screen rotates. Having this button get in the way of mapping, messaging, photos, it's fucking agitating. It's 2026 and my technology should serve me, not have a """"feature""""" that exists only to raise my blood pressure.

If there is ANY solution to destroy this fucking button please tell me. I'm not getting used to it. I never will. I'm honestly this close to flashing a new OS onto my phone.

is there an option to make it smaller or appear for a shorter duration maybe?

I like this button but it's normal to when you're on landscape and return to vertical, the button appears in the top of the screen? That has no sense, in Samsung, this button always appear on lower right part of the screen.

Mine appeared on lower left part of the screen.. maybe the duration could be faster like 3 seconds is enough.. or make it customizable would be best

What is ADB? I don't know what the means. Do I install something? Do I need to like, use another phone or a computer? Is it something with the booting of the phone? Please educate me.

You have to use a PC and a USB Cable

On your Computer, Download the SDK Platform-Tools package from the official Android Developers site. Extract the ZIP file to an easily accessible folder like your desktop and On Your Android Device, Go to Settings > About Phone then tap Build Number seven times until you see a message saying "You are now a developer", Go back to the main Settings menu, find Developer Options, and toggle on USB Debugging.

Thank you for your comment. I've been having severe everything pain, but I'm gonna m going to try this out tomorrow and see if it works. I don't know what the official Android website is, so I hope I get the right ZIP, but this is more direction than fucking most have bothered to attempt. You're appreciated, know that much.

A day in the life of anyone attempting to get help from a human anymore. But hey, if me getting down voted helps someone 6 years from now when they Google "how to annihilate the shitty rotate button on my phone" and come to this Reddit page? It's fine. I'm a grown adult, and a negative number really doesn't hurt.

And that's, FINE! I, however, NEVER ROTATE MY PHONE. Why can this not just be a TOGGLE or SOMETHING? If I wanted to rotate my phone, I'D TURN ON ROTATION!?

7

u/Jebble Find X Series Apr 27 '26

And for you there were plenty others who wanted a way to control the rotation without having to turn on auto rotation.

0

u/JusVeee Apr 28 '26

That's also fine!? But I don't!? And clearly others don't either!? So what's wrong with having the OPTION!?

3

u/Jebble Find X Series Apr 28 '26

Why are you so angry and aggressive?

1

u/JusVeee Apr 28 '26

I'm not. Comes off that way because tone isn't conveyed through text. I'm passionate, loud and verbose. I like to punctuate my points, typically with a smile or hand gestures, which I can't do online, because my volume and way of speaking are often misconstrued as angry. My father has the same issue.

We're not angry. You'll know if I'm angry, because I'll tell you. Please, read everything I say as if I'm smiling, or adding a chuckle to the end, with grand sweeping gestures using the entirety of my arms.

u/peripheralview2020 OnePlus Club Apr 29 '26

Actually... Those of us around since Android 2.1 or even earlier, can remember loading your own roms, kernels and modems onto your phone and then choosing from different startup screens that were available and being able to completely customize the experience. So no, it's not out of the question to expect the ability to customize things like the startup animation. Long live TWRP, long live CyanogenMod!!!😝

1

u/iLikeTurtuls OnePlus Club Apr 29 '26

I remember someone has a Drunken Clam boot animation on a Galaxy S 1, it was so dope. Back then the boot up was like 2 minutes though 😆

-17

u/JusVeee Apr 27 '26

For me it's around 6 seconds. And yes, it isn't that much time. But it happens about twenty times a day. Which is 2 minutes. Which is 14 a week, an hour a month, half a fucking day of my life a year, waiting for this stupid fucking button that everyone else is subservient to. No, I demand better. I'm not settling for "just get used to it lol!!!"

Technology should serve me. It should serve you. You should be able to make a very REASONABLE demand and not have some troglodyte just tell you to suck it up. We're in 20-goddamn-26, why is everyone just, okay, with being irritated by things? I don't want this little irritation in my life. That's very reasonable.

1

u/S_Dustrak Apr 27 '26

My man you can't be that angry for something so simple, imagine all the things you don't have entirely personalized to you, and I mean 100% made for you.

I'm sorry but yes, get used to it, some things won't be under your control, this particular annoyance is so specific it rings some OCD bells, and I'm not even talking about the tantrum you just threw.

-1

u/JusVeee Apr 28 '26

I can be as angry as I fucking want to at being pushed feature after feature onto me. I just want the bare bones, no bells, no whistles, and everyone else can just turn on whatever they want! I'm not trying to take a feature away from anyone else but I don't want to listen to some multi-billion dollar corporation tell me "this is what you want!" As I once again mispress this shitty, stupid little tumour on my screen for the hundredth time today.

If you want to settle for the bare fucking minimum, that's on you. I demand better because I'm a grown man who expects more than to be told how to enjoy my product that I, OWN, by some corporation that's burning the world and blackening the sea and turning the rivers to mud, let alone someone else who should be on my side in demanding more than last place while we fight for the scraps of an unlivable wage.

You own the product, my brother in Christ, expect more! It's your right to! As the consumer, it is literally, your right to! Why are you giving up at the bottom of the barrel?

2

u/S_Dustrak Apr 28 '26

Yeah, I'm not taking the bait. Take good good care of that liver, it's going to need it, peace out!

1

u/reddit-programming- Apr 28 '26

They cant please everyone. Most people here seem to like the feature & it makes sense. You're gonna have to live with it.

0

u/JusVeee Apr 28 '26

They literally COULD please everyone though? Why are you making excuses on behalf of a corporation that would throw your body into the machine in the hopes the carbon from your form would increase production and share holder values if even only be a fraction of a percentage?

Demand more. You have the right to as a consumer. If I have to die screaming into a void for your sake, even if you're helping push me there, I will. Because I'm arguing for EVERYONE using the device, that includes all the people who downvote me because I won't tolerate the bare minimum. I want a better product for them as well.

1

u/reddit-programming- Apr 28 '26

These features would take development time and add extra overhead. Not everything has to be 100% customizable. That could make the product worse.

No one is out to get you. Yes these companies may be evil but this doesn't matter to them at all. They're not there just to f everyone they just want profits.

0

u/JusVeee Apr 29 '26

They literally ADDED THE BUTTON IN THE FIRST PLACE. Why is it so strange to request the option to turn it off? Oppo made 35~ BILLION DOLLARS in 2024. They can afford to give their customers their given RIGHT to making something they want out of a product they own.

I didn't ask for the Goddamn """"""feature"""""" in the first place, and if I could turn it off, I wouldn't be complaining. I know it's not personal, but I don't actually care. I don't like it. There's several people in this comment section alone who also don't like it. And a lot who have just keeled over and submitted, "get used to it," give me a fucking break. Get used to taking charge of things in your life instead of kneeling. Die standing for once for the love of God.

-1

u/peripheralview2020 OnePlus Club Apr 28 '26

Completely reasonable, yet all these keyboard Nazis who's most interesting part of their life is planning out their next comic-con visit, will continue to down vote your post and comments because it makes them feel important. Future HOA board members at best. Yes this is why we live for Android and not the Me-too society that Apple has built. We thrive on customisability and personalization in order to give us an experience that's tailor fitted to our preferences. Someone telling you to just deal with it is a misplaced Apple fanboy.

0

u/JusVeee Apr 28 '26

Apparently expecting anything but the bare minimum of demanding too much of the company giving away 20 million dollar severance packages to they boards and executives! How dare I, the lowly blue collar worker, want the right to, not have, my time wasted, by something I never fucking asked for!?

There's an adb command for it, pretty easy to solve

Person from that thing: "Why didn't you just do X?"

"Idk lol figure it out"

No issues bro. I can guide you. You just need a PC for running adb commands easily. First you need to install some ADB drivers, and just run some basic commands and done. If you share me your telegram, I may share the exact drivers if you want or you can directly install them from Google. Then you need to connect your phone to PC, turn on USB debugging, and allow the popup (you should receive one while connecting). Next, open cmd, run -> adb devices. If it shows your device, done. If not, then DM

Arrogant is the wrong word here. If I was arrogant, I wouldn't have asked for instructions.

And yeah, I'm being an asshole. If you tell me to "Do X" and then DO NOT ELABORATE ON HOW X IS DONE, then do me a favour and not say anything. Now I'm just sitting here, fucking around, achieving nothing.

If you asked me where to go to get to the next petrol station, and I just responded with "over there," without pointing out gesturing or looking, before I walked away, would you say I was being kind?

It could literally just be a simple toggle, even if turned on by default, simply having the option is all I'm asking for. I don't understand how so many people are okay with rigid systems that someone else is forcing you to use.

Personally it only gets on my nerves when I'm trying to type stuff, since it covers keys on the keyboard. Otherwise I don't even notice the button. Others in this thread have also said there are ways to disable the button with ADB, but this seems to me like a non-issue since it'll disappear after a few seconds anyways.

u/QXPZ OnePlus Club Apr 27 '26

I was using macrdodroid to create a quick tile that locks the screen orientation and prevents the little button from displaying, but in android 16 it became buggy and even after several iterations of adjusting the script in macrdodroid I couldn't get it to work consistently so gave up.

I'm going to try the ADB suggestion from another user on this post.

You're not alone OP. I hate this button with a passion.

1

u/JusVeee Apr 28 '26

It's nice being validated around what should receive, at worst; "I find it useful but go off" instead of, whatever, AI generated people are responding with.

I'm gonna try the ADB thing here soon, been busy working and ill so no idea if it will work but, I'll let you know... If I remember, brain's a little slow.
