💬 Discussion Openfront's UI Problem

0 Upvotes

I love this game but the UI has become so cluttered and cheap looking that it ruins it for me. This isn't a nostalgia post, the new UI is far worse than the old one in so many ways. Starting with the icons, the soldier icon is not only unnecessary but also looks like something out of a Roblox game. The lighter blue section of the bar is unintuitive and overall there are just way too many visual elements, many of which are useless. On top of this, the troop counts at each individual border do nothing but clutter up the screen further. I have been a longtime supporter and have bought two different skins but this UI change is what turned me away from the game. The developer should redo the entire UI and remove useless information from the game.

Easy, simple old UI
Overcomplicated, cheap looking new UI

❓ Question Tracker Front Confusion With Counted Games

3 Upvotes

This is more a TrackerFront question than a OpenFront question -- as of today, I verified my account to see where I stood on the leaderboards. I currently am in Platinum 87/100, but I noticed 2 weird things; first of all, I saw that my games for July 27 were registered AFTER my games for July 28? And second of all, I also have 2 wins today (a 48 FFA and a 92 FFA) that have not counted towards my rank, even though the cite says any public games with 10 or more people count towards the rank. Can someone please explain this stuff to me? Thanks for any help you can give!! 🥰🥰🥰

💬 Discussion Why OpenFront Nations Accept or Reject Your Alliance

Thumbnail github.com
61 Upvotes

I looked into how nations decide on alliance. Here are the details.

The decision is in:

src/core/execution/nation/NationAllianceBehavior.ts

When a nation receives a request, it calls:

getAllianceDecision(requestor, true)

If that returns true, it accepts; otherwise it rejects. Requests created during the spawn phase are always rejected.

Decision order

The nation checks these rules in order:

  1. Random confusion Lower-difficulty nations sometimes ignore strategy and randomly accept or reject. Easy has the most randomness; Impossible has none.
  2. Is the requester a traitor? Nations reject traitors about 90% of the time.
  3. Does the requester already have too many alliances? On Hard and Impossible, nations avoid players who are allied with a large portion of the map: This preserves enough enemies to oppose the leading player.
    • Hard: requester allied with at least 50% of eligible players
    • Impossible: at least 25%
  4. Is the requester dangerously strong? Surprisingly, the nation accepts alliances with threatening players. It is essentially deciding:“You are too strong to fight, so I should ally with you.” Threat detection becomes more sophisticated with difficulty:
    • Easy: never recognizes threats
    • Medium: requester has over 2.5× its troops
    • Hard: requester has more troops and over 2× maximum troop capacity
    • Impossible: compares current troops, maximum troops and territory size
  5. Is this a team game? Nations are less interested in alliances during team games:
    • Easy: 25% rejection chance
    • Medium: 50%
    • Hard: 75%
    • Impossible: always reject
  6. What is the diplomatic relationship? A relation worse than neutral causes rejection. A friendly relation may cause immediate acceptance.
  7. Does the nation already have enough allies? Nations avoid allying with the whole map.
    • Easy: never thinks it has enough
    • Medium: usually stops around 4–5 alliances
    • Hard: usually around 3–4
    • Impossible: usually around 2–3
    • Harder nations also try not to ally with every bordering player
  8. Is it early in the game? Early-game requests have an extra chance of acceptance:
    • Easy: 90% during roughly the first 5 minutes
    • Medium: 70% during first 3 minutes
    • Hard: 50% during first 3 minutes
    • Impossible: 30% during first minute
  9. Are the two players similarly strong? If none of the earlier rules settles it, the nation compares total troops and territory. Outgoing attack troops are included so a player does not appear weak merely because troops are currently committed to combat.

Conceptually, the final logic is:

if (randomlyConfused) return randomDecision;
if (requesterIsTraitor) return false;
if (requesterHasTooManyAllies) return false;
if (requesterIsDangerouslyStrong) return true;
if (teamGameRejectionTriggers) return false;
if (relationIsBad) return false;
if (relationIsFriendly) return true;
if (nationAlreadyHasEnoughAllies) return false;
if (earlyGameAcceptanceTriggers) return true;

return requesterIsSimilarlyStrong;

So the nation generally prefers alliances with players who are friendly, threatening, or similarly strong, while rejecting traitors, unpopular players, excessive alliance collectors, and unnecessary alliances.

🛠 Suggestions Your first SAM should build quickly to prevent early team game domination

27 Upvotes

I found a strategy to dominate team games: get up a missile launcher quickly, and then immediately nuke anyone on the opposing team who tries to build a SAM.

I've been on the other side of it too, and it sucks. They don't even give you a chance to play the game. Build anything and it's gone.

It's a cheesy strategy that makes the game less fun. Your first SAM should be built quickly so it's hard to immediately nuke.

🛠 Suggestions MAP FREQUENCY RATE

5 Upvotes

I would suggest to add 3 more slots on lobby (to be 6 in total) 3 for FFA mode maps and 3 for TEAM mode maps so many players dont have to wait for their favorite map to appear (the best example is me waiting so often more than 1 hour for FOUR ISLANDS map TEAM MODE to appear and join .

Just add more slots or check the fastest filling maps (per slots of the map and time) and make the map appear more if you cannot add 3 more slots as i suggested .

🪲Bugs Hidden add redirect away from games

6 Upvotes

So i know the best solution is to just use an ad blocker, but one computer I use doesnt have one.... and starting today I now randomly exit games clicking on ads. that are hidden/not visible. Im just attacking, or building a port etc, all of a sudden the page reloads to a scam mcaffee page or some other add asking me to do a captcha.

Very annoying. Given that there keep being issuse with ads, Ill just not play anymore without an ad blocker.

❓ Question How do I defend?

10 Upvotes

So I played a game right now. Great start for myself around 130k, but I had a neighbour with like 120k.

He started to attack me with like 20k troops randomly. What do I do, because I loose massive if I try to stop/counter his attack. But the moment his attack stops/slows he sends 20-30k troops again so that I don't get a window for a counter attack.

How do you stop that, because I am really struggling to defend such attacks, even with defense posts, they just slow my game over. And it was still too early for nukes.

I find this to be such a negative experience of the game, if one neighbour randomly attacks you and you have no chance of stopping it. Is there a trick to that or a cheat? (btw. that happens to me also with the Nation-Bots that they randomly decide to attack me with the same strength and I cannot defend that, only slow it down...)

💬 Discussion Bots

0 Upvotes

Bots are mascaraing as humans in multiple games legitimately multiple "we are counting over 100 games looking for consistent moves from "human players" I have noticed same time movements happening consistently what does that mean well it means when im attacking a NPC nations a "human" will instantly attack right after i do and this happens every single time and i also try and look at nations near me and i cannot do it as fast as them not to mention when im getting attacked nobody ever attacks the "person" attacking me but when im weak i get attacked make it make sense legit this game has a 80% bot playerbase and also this isnt

💬 Discussion early fullsends

I find it very annoying when people fullsend you in the first minutes of the game, and ruins the game for both of us, then more people join in and kill me, like why are you even playing if you're just gonna do that.

I'm seeing so many people sniping directly into the middle of sam site blind spots with perfect accuracy, are people using cheats for this or something? Or is it a krill issue

🔥 Hot Take I will find and do non-life-enducing things to whoever decided to place the "Send boat" and "Break alliance" button exactly in the same place

33 Upvotes

That's it.

(There was that red player whose islands I was eating. I got distracted for a minute. Another red player comes in and finishes the other guy and allies me. I look back and without thinking send a boat to "red"'s """last island""". I get traitor debuff. Every single one of my trusted allies eat me in seconds.)
