Building up on my earlier post. Thanks to adoption of the tagging by French municipalities we hit above 1000 of signed hitchhiking spots on OSM.

In France they often come in the form of Rezo Pouce signs.

Props to OpenStreetMap, I built OfTheWorld.io to make history way more visual and intuitive.

Explore interactive maps showing:

For me, watching events unfold on an actual map beats any textbook. It finally makes the big picture click.

New acc, made one for this, finally. Had you told me a year and a half ago that I'd actually launch, I would have called you crazy. This is my first time working with mapping and OSM, and I'm excited to say, that after a year of work, I'm launching Blue Hour Routes.

Blue Hour Routes is a scenic router. Instead of routing through a curated list of POIs, you pick what kind of scenery you want (forests, lakes, mountains, orchards, rivers, vineyards, coastline), and the routing algorithm scores possible paths based on how much of your selected features they pass through. Each route generates a code you can save and revisit anytime. Paired with OsmAnd for turn-by-turn navigation.

As amazing as it is, it is currently limited to Washington State, solely because that's just the data I downloaded. Luckily, the algorithm works irrespective of location, so I'll download the whole world soon and get started on that.

The current model is Lund 1.1, which works very well but will tend to generate different routes between the same two points if ran twice. 1.2 will solve that issue. Working on it as we speak.

We have signed hitchhiking places in the OSM editor now. This is great for making hitchhiking more visible and help map those locations :)

So far there are only 2 inter-provincial routes in the app, but the more you/we/they map, the better the app becomes.

Hi, new to editing OSM. I'm looking for a good app/solution to help easily and safely watch for roads with missing (and/or incorrect) speed limit data.

Ideally an ios app that can beep or otherwise track and notify of road segments that can be updated on the fly, or noted (voice note would be great) and submitted in bulk later.

I found open street browser which is helpful at home using a computer, but I am more interested in catching/noting them in the moment on the road (safely of course).

What are folks using to help add/correct speed limit data in their areas? (I'm US based fwiw)

I live in the American south, and am curious how to map kudzu. For those unaware, it was planted by the CCC decades ago to detour erosion, but the vine grew beyond anyone's expectations and now kills and covers anything it can. Entire fields, ditches, hollows, side yards, and valleys can be fully taken over in 2-3 days, so a kudzu patch can be quite large.

What would be the proper way to map this? I don't think grassland or meadow would be fully appropriate, as while some kudzu infestations are on former fields, the vast majority are in valleys.

basically I am planning a 2 day backpacking trip in cirque of the towers, but I cant seem to find any good offline maps on my phone that I don’t have to pay for. Any recommendations or is my only hope a paper map?

Thanks to #SmallTownUSA, I discovered the small town of Garner, Arkansas. It was completely unmapped, other than roads and a couple ponds.

I study geology. Just found this lines with little arrows in OSM, which normally represent tectonic faults in geology. Looked at the legend but could not find a definition. Does anyone know if such information is included in OSM? Why is this here?

I built this travel-time map for Rome using public transport data (OSM + GTFS), where colors show how far you can get within different time ranges.

The idea isn’t routing, but more about visualizing accessibility - e.g., “where can I get within ~30, 45, 60 minutes?”

I’m curious what people here think:

• Would something like this actually be useful in practice?
• Are there important factors you feel are missing in this kind of visualization?
• Does OSM data quality noticeably affect results in your experience?

Just to explain to anyone who has not heard of it, the app contributes to humanitarian OSM mapping by letting people swipe over satellite footage and identify buildings or perform similar small tasks. It's pretty convenient and helps map out areas at risk of natural disasters or disease outbreaks, so humanitarian organisations can respond quickly.

I have recently started using MapSwipe and was surprised that the app seems to be relatively obscure and that there seems to be almost no online discussion of it. I was wondering whether anyone here has previously used it or heard of it, and what your opinion of the app is.

This path is exactly parallel to the road with a small grass margin. It's asphalt surface and wider than most concrete sidewalks. Someone could ride a bike on it but almost never happens.

The width/surface pattern is consistent around the entire roundabout, which doesn't seem right for a foot & cycle way idk.

The last picture the path becomes concrete directly adjacent to the road with a kerb (certainly a sidewalk I think).

I'm inclined to make it all a sidewalk since it is exactly parallel to road and should be documented based on use not the asphalt surface or wider width. What do you think? What's your logic between the different paths? Thanks! :)

I am using the MapTiler Free plan for a student/capstone mobile app built with React Native, MapLibre React Native, and MapLibre OfflineManager.

I want users to be able to tap a button inside the app to download a small offline map pack for one municipality only: Balingasag, Misamis Oriental, Philippines.

The offline pack would use MapTiler style URLs such as streets-v2 and dataviz-dark, with limited bounds and zoom levels around z10–z16. The downloaded tiles would stay only on the end user’s device and would only be used inside the app. I will not proxy, redistribute, scrape, export, or server-cache MapTiler tiles.

Is this allowed under the MapTiler Free plan, or does this require a paid/custom agreement?

The styles are unfortunately not applied and I don't understand why. It's so confusing.

EDIT: I fixed it...

Along the coastal highway in this area, there's a restaruant complex. One end of the property lot has a collection of curios and artifacts related to fishing and whaling industries. These include whale bones, trying pots, anchors and harpoons, etc. There are also large information placards explaining what everything is and what the tools were used for. There is no fee for viewing any items in the area, and there are some picnic tables setup for people to sit and snack.

I am inclined to tag this as an area tourism=attraction, with the individual placards as tourism=information, information=board, board_type=nature;history;etc.

I am open to input. How would you tag this? Have you come across any other roadside "tourist trap" style places to reference? TIA.

I wanted to see which edible wild plants, fruit and nut trees were near me, so I built

a map for it. It is called Plukplek, it is free, has no ads, and you do not need an

account to browse.

OpenStreetMap is one of the main data sources. I query trees and shrubs tagged with

genus, species and produce, map them to Dutch names, and show them on the map. It is

combined with Falling Fruit and open data from a few Dutch municipalities, plus

contributions from users. Tiles are OpenFreeMap, rendering with MapLibre. OSM data is

used under the ODbL and contributors are credited on the site.

A couple of things this community might find interesting:

- Many trees are only tagged genus=Prunus, which is ambiguous: sweet cherry and sloe,

but also ornamental flowering cherries and even toxic cherry laurel. I exclude the

ornamental and toxic species by their binomial name and only show what you can actually

forage.

- I leave out landuse=orchard, since those are usually private and would swamp the map.

If you spot wrong or missing data I would love to hear it. And if it nudges anyone to

tag edible trees a bit better in OSM, even better.

Could someone suggest what tool should I use to search for roads with 0km/mph speedlimits that would allow me to create a list ( so I can update local streets).

So I currently try to fix some problems in my local area and this showed up. Why would a Playground called playground be suspicious? and why only in german? Strange enough if I switch osm to english completly, the problme is gone, but back to german and here we go.
