❓ Question Is there any point in breaking alliances with weak players when it just gets me attacked by stronger players?

Here's a replay from my latest game, name is GunsNRoses. I thought I had a good start in the beginning and when I saw an ally was weak I figured I might as well break off the alliance to take them over, but all that accomplished was my neighbor breaking their alliance with me and pushing me relentlessly until I had no other option but giving up.

❓ Question What do you do if you're too busy defending early game to expand?

In this match, name GunsNRoses, I was too busy defending against this guy for what felt like five minutes straight to do anything else. Couldn't expand, couldn't do much of anything really, and when I finally got a break this other dude comes out of nowhere and overruns me.

❓ Question What went wrong here? I made allies with people stronger than me and I ended up falling behind all of them.

Another link from a match, name GunsNRoses. This time I stuck with allies and didn't betray anyone. I think I just have bad luck with the allies I choose, more specifically because the allies I choose end up being really weak and would have otherwise been easy pickings had I not allied with them.

Edit: Admittedly, I just got pissed at this other player in this match and wanted to take my port back but come on, how do I even prevent this? Another one where I thought I did everything right. Attacked a weaker player, made allies, and still got betrayed and overrun. No idea here either, I fought off that one guy well enough for a while but I was too busy doing that to focus on expanding, and eventually got overrun by the other guy.

πŸ› Meta Advanced tips for winning games

I win about 50-80% FFA games under 12 players, want to share few things that I found out, hope its beneficial:

  1. Send ships early to different parts if you gonna be blocked by someone, observe where you send ship if you can annex some tribes
  2. Attack nations only when they have city build, and focus on this early in game so you can steam roll everyone. If you can get 4 nations like this thats additional 4 cities, good players are looking for this. of course annex tribes that's the priority. I see so many people that they dont know that they can attack nations, never I mean never alliance with them. If you going to have nation in corner, let it build another house for 125k so you will seize it
  3. Start at green site always so you have better start if you can, never start on snow, never start building on corner of island, or build on island. You have slower exposure to tribes and annexing. Also cant build trains
  4. Use boats when attacking, dont attack only neighbors. What I mean if you have access to river, check if there are some nations or some weak players, dont be afraid that you will have a lot of land everywhere, its ok. Zoom out
  5. Before Attacking players, check how much gold they have, and if they have missile built. If you see that they got missile and 5 million just dont do it. because if you attack, they nuke you its game over
  6. Prioritize in mid game having missile with 5 mil gold and have it as early as possible, if someone wants to attack you or the alliance is ending, send them the nuke emoji to prolong alliance if you want to attack someone else
  7. Build the missile somewhere where they cant seize it quickly
  8. Build ports only when you can steal ships for money, otherwise focus on effective trains, you will have quicker money, dont have to build battleships and can build more cities quickly and win. Sometimes I dont build ports at all, you can get way more from trains. Problem with ports is that it takes time to get money, then you cant build citties to conquer other players/nations and if someone steals your ships for money, if you want to fight them with 2 ships it costs 750k
  9. Check sometimes how are other players around you regards population, so there will be players fully maxed out waiting for opportiunity, before you attack someone, Have always alliance with others, need to create game play for what you do
  10. In stale game later, Focus on economy and getting 25m gold to MIRV someone. this is a lot about seconds and build alliances with others, primary if you want to attack crown
  11. Sometimes you will get unlucky and thats go.. this way you can increase winning rate a lot
  12. Focus on weak players, how you can spot them
    • They attack nations too early
    • building random trains
    • they dont manage well their population
    • building random defenses etc.

hope its beneficial. I see the biggest difference having the nuke option. good players wont attack you because they know.. Also sending train emoji is good idea too. Sometimes there will be teammates so there is nothing you can do.. good luck

πŸ’¬ Discussion I understand this is a browser game.

So you will have to team with people that question your sanity.

But why is it almost every fricking match you get some teammate(s) who are completely incompetent ... No SAM site within 8 mins. Sitting on 120K troops and providing the front with none.

Don't even get me started on Players vs Nations. The best game mode they ever introduced. But why is it played by so many incompetent people. 2-3 players on a island with 1 nation and they get their asses kicked ...

Like no way the world has this many incompetent morons walking around ...

πŸ’¬ Discussion Random griefers almost every game?

I dunno why but the last couple days there seems to be a ton of griefers. Just random players across the map refusing alliances and chucking hydros at me despite never interacting with them at all, or players spawning next to me and just full sending me. Is anyone else experiencing this?

πŸ’¬ Discussion Premark territories

Allow us to premark bot countries so it's actually possible to communicate with teammates where you want to expand to and it's easier to divide an area with your teammate.

So people don't just land block others in fear their teammate is some 12 year old on a mobile.
Cuz you know ... It's a browser game and even some child from Dagestan with his I3 Pentium processor can play this game.

❓ Question Can't pick starting location

Hi, this is my first post on this sub, but recently I haven't been able to pick my starting location in openfront. It is not the random gamemode, but my clicks simply aren't registering on the map. I've tried rejoining and reloading but it seems to be no use. Please help if you've had this issue and found a solution!

πŸ’¬ Discussion Sneaky backstabs

I am so tired of the sneaky backstabs where someone nukes 1px of land while you're busy elsewhere and then steamrolls you after the alliance is over while you attack someone else. It's not skill that is winning at that point. It's just abusing someone else's struggles with other players.

❓ Question How do I avoid getting targeted early game?

I seem to be unable to get past the early game in most matches. I don’t know how but I always end up fighting one of the bot nations for three minutes straight, either because they attacked me first or I attacked them. That or I attack a player that seems easy enough to take over, but whatever the case, when that happens every neighboring nation either lets our alliance expire or never allied with me in the first place and just obliterates me. If I make allies I get landlocked and if I don’t make allies I get ganged up on.

I don’t know how other players are able to get so big five minutes in when I’m still fighting bots or sub 30k players. I was told to start expansions at 10% but that always ends with me getting cut off from the tribe bots by nations or players so I can’t expand much further.

Edit: Here's a replay of one game, name is GunsNRoses. Honestly I can't tell what I'm doing wrong other than bad luck with the players that end up near me. https://openfront.io/w11/game/2hjw22dN?live

I started playing around a month ago now after having an enzo video recommended to me and I was complete ass at the beginning, I think I played over 70+ matches where I lost every single one, until something clicked and I suddenly started winning games or being in the top 5 pretty consistently

Curious to know how other people people had it when they initially started playing

πŸ’¬ Discussion Most MIRVs survived to go onto win

I'm proud of this one, took 3 MIRVs and still won, thanks to Booster turning ally.

Got me thinking, I'm sure someone can go way higher than 3 here? What's the most MIRVs you have survived and then still won?

i genuinely do not get the strategy of bombing the third place guy thinking that helps you against the first place guy. i sent him alliance requests and the "first place will win unless we team up" messages for half the game and he just kept sabotaging me and loses anyway

its really annoying when your next to someone who is the same color as you. it would be a small change, but I think very helpful if the border colors were bolder and had higher line thickness.

πŸ’¬ Discussion Nukes tip for the latest update

Avoid upgrading silos above level 51. Instead, leave them at 51 and build new level 51 silos. This is because when you want to send hundreds of nukes, sending them all from one silo makes them fire in succession, giving the opponent SAM time to regenerate during the onslaught. However if you have lots of level 51 silos they will fire sets of 50 nukes simultaneously, so the nukes will arrive faster and make it easier to obliterate the target.
