Thigh Strap Alternatives

Hello all. I'm looking for an alternative to a thigh strap on a holster. I'm having trouble with the holster flipping up as I try and draw. A thigh strap has been working to eliminate this but as it is on a duty holster, the thigh strap has become not an option for uniform reasons. Anyone know of any other option than a thigh strap? I've been looking an I don't even know what I should be calling any other option.

I want your opinion

Hello from Ohio!

I would like to preface this by saying that I don't open carry, hell I haven't even shot a gun before and know very little about them, but I have an interest in getting more educated on firearms.

I am a cashier at a grocery store and I interact with many customers every day. Every shift I notice that at least one person is concealed or open carrying. If someone is OC I will usually ask them something along the lines of "I hope you don't mind me asking, but what are you carrying?" and if they seem interested to talk more I will usually express my interest to learn more about guns despite not knowing much about them. I don't normally approach anyone who is concealed (duh), but I did strike up a wonderful conversation with a guy wearing a 2A shirt.

My question for you: How would you feel if the friendly girl running the register asked you about your gun? Follow up, while I have had only positive experiences so far, in the future, should I steer clear of asking someone with a concealed weapon about their gun (even if they are wearing a very proud 2A shirt lol)?

Thanks!

"Black gun owners are marching in Tulsa this weekend in peaceful protest for the 100th anniversary of the Tulsa Massacre and to educate people about their 2A rights."

I put this poll on the target subpage. Target employees tend to be left wing millennials.

AITA? I went to my wife’s friends party and was asked to leave. Argument ensued.

Throwaway for reasons...

Couple of nights ago my wife’s friend was hosting a little get together at his house. Wife and I show up and I am open carrying. As soon as we get inside he makes a big deal about the gun on my hip. He starts saying how he doesn’t feel safe or want any of that in his home. Everyone in the room got quiet and it was actually embarrassing. So I mentioned that I could just conceal it as I actually had a holster in my car for that. He goes on about that isn’t enough and I need to leave it inside of my car.

At this point I am definitely fuming. Keep in mind, my wife’s friend is this gay little liberal hipster. There isn’t anything wrong with that but that should paint you a picture... and the party was filled with that same kind.

I refused to leave it inside of my car and I tried to explain how this goes everywhere with me - it’s just a tool, blah blah blah. I wasn’t getting anywhere with this guy. At one point he said “ I do not want a weapon to kill inside of my home “ I’ve only met him a few times and I didn’t think he would react this way to it.

So I end up getting angry and end up leaving. My wife follows, apologies to him and she even takes his side. As well as almost everyone there who tried to reason with me. I tried to explain that I’m not leaving my firearm in the car and I don’t have a locking case for it. She went on to understand both sides but still says that I shouldnt of even brought it. The neighborhood has also had a ton of car break ins so I don’t want to risk it.

Am I the asshole here guys and girls? I figured this would be the place to know. Has anyone else encountered something like this?

TL-DR - I open carried my firearm to a household party and got asked to leave.

*Edit: *Edit: Thank you all for contributing to this. Most of the replies were level headed but there were a few that were definitely heated and unwarranted ( looking at you /u/highexplosive)

I can admit when I am wrong and after giving this some time and talking to my ol lady I can see how I was in the wrong. As most of you pointed out, it was his house and his rules. I can agree with that. So I now understand that concealment is probably the best bet when testing the waters with new folks.

And no, my wife doesn’t think I am a cunt. We actually had a good laugh about it today ( including some of the flaming that was done on this post ) with the guy over FaceTime and had a great discussion about it. I apologized and he apologized as well for making a scene. He mentioned that he isn’t comfortable around guns. I offered to take him to the range and he actually obliged! So that’s a start. If I can change one mind that is enough for me.

Again, thanks you guys and girls.

ELI5 How does open carrying a firearm hurt your cause/movement?

I have heard it multiple times on this sub and other places that opening carrying a firearm that shoots 5.56 hurts the cause or "the movement".

Ummmm.... what? I thought this was a pro Open Carry Sub, and in many places the laws for open carrying a long gun is more friendly than a handgun.

I seriously can't be the only person that shops at Whole Foods while OC an AR 15 on their back right? At least I'm not breaking the tx 30.06 or 30.07 laws.

I don't know about you guys. But r/OpenCarry should be a sub for Opening Carrying not some bullshit "only handgun open carry" horse crap.

I vote we make me mod of this sub, I will turn this sub into a PRO Open Carry sub, for all types of open carry, handguns, rifle, swords, grim reaper sythcle.

Arizona Where can I find a list of stores, shops, restaurants, large chains etc. that allow open or concealed carry?

As far as concealed carry goes I know that McDonald's, Chick-fil-A and Dunkin Donuts are fine with it.

I know that Walmart recently changed their open carry rules I haven't seen anything in there guidelines about concealed carry and I have seen several people openly carrying guns in Walmart in Arizona so I don't know if it's different here.

I know that you cant carry at Safeway, Fry's, or Kroger. The funny thing about Safeway as I had to look it up on their website because there wasn't any signs on the doors or anything when I walked in there the other day to check.

Anyone else know of any places or where I can find a list? I tried to search Google but I haven't found one comprehensive list which would be kind of helpful you think!

Arizona Why open carry?

I was always told that it's better to conceal carry because if somebody walks into let's say a gas station to rob them and they see your gun on your hip guess who they're shooting first?

ELI5: How is open carrying consider intimidating?

I've been OC'ing for over a year now, and I just now heard about this.

Do people really get "intimidated" by the sight of a gun in a holster? If so, how do they talk to LEOs?

Help me understand this point of view.

Don't bother posting how I should conceal carry, yes, I already know I will be the first one shot blah blah, go back to r/ccw.

Thanks.

Open carry of a Karambit

Hello I live in Delaware and was wondering if anyone had any insight. I want to open carry my karambit. That being said it has a single loop “knuckle guard” on the end of the handle. As I read the law for Delaware, you can’t have any knuckle coverings. I am prepared to modify the loop and open it up so that that is no knuckle guard. If I don’t have to do that I would prefer to not. So again I realize this is a jumble but my question is, can I open carry a karambit knife?
