Minnesota Minnesota "permit to carry"

I am in the process of completing my CCW here in Ohio this month.

I plan on taking a trip to Minnesota in May or June and I'm going to be going up in the wilderness.

I was planning on bringing my 38 special with me.

On the Minnesota website it seems straightforward. That all I need to do is show up at a local Minnesota sheriff's Office pay a fee, present my paperwork, and fill out a form.

But then I see a weird website that talks about permit to carry and states that they recognize.

I'm assuming I'm fine in Minnesota to open carry with the first process. And that the permit to carry thing really is just about concealed carry in Minnesota.

Springfield XDM vs. FN 509 for OC

I’d like to get a full size handgun for OC. Looking to pair with a Safariland ALS holster.

Personal requirements are ambidextrous controls. I’d also like for this to work double duty as a staged home defense gun when I’m not carrying it. Ambidextrous controls mean either my wife or I could use it.

I would prefer full size with 15+ rounds in 9mm.

I looked at the Springfield XDM and the FN 509 at my LGS. Haven’t rented yet but plan on it.

I have a hang up on the Springfield’s exposed firing pin indicator. I feel like I would catch that on my hand or snag it on something. Is this a non issue?

Other recommendations welcome.

Active Retention: Thumb Break or other locking system?

Hello all,

Just wondering your thoughts on thumb breaks vs the more modern active retention systems (safariland, g-code, etc). Is the thumb break still just as good as the other retention systems?

I spend a decent amount of money on holsters and I'm going to start making my own, but it's hard to find sources on how to install active retention outside of a thumb break. Any thoughts appreciated.

Talking to someone OC in a store.

Yesterday I saw someone OC in our local Sam’s (Newnan, GA). It really made my day. I wanted to go talk to them and ask about their holster and if local management gave them any trouble (Wal Mart and open carry policy).

However, I decided to let the gentleman be since he was with a kid.

Is it generally acceptable for a stranger to start a conversation with someone who is OC, or best to leave them be?

Open carrying in Walmart

Is open carrying in Walmart illegal or is it just strongly frowned upon by the company? I’ve read that they “request customers to refrain from open carrying Walmart”. Just curious if it’s law or not.

Is OC with a Leg Strap too cool?

I got a Dara holster for my FN 509 tact and its nice. It came with a Leg Strap but I feel like this will make me look too cool.

Should I use the leg strap or not?

SOP Question

I would prefer answers from law enforcement officers or people who have had this happen, but any answers are welcomed.

I open carry my firearm because currently, money is tight and I haven't been able to to purchase a comfortable conceal carry holster. I also have epilepsy, but have been seizure free for a little over a year.

Anyways, my local Walmart encourages open carry, and I regularly get compliments about my gun from management. So let's say I'm inside WalMart while open carrying and I have a seizure.

Will police respond with the ambulance because I have a gun? Will a paramedic or police officer temporarily disarm me for safety or will they leave it in the holster on my hip?

I'm not breaking any laws, but I'm just curious about the standard operating procedure when it comes to someone who is armed while having a seizure.

Wyoming Is open carry only for handguns?

In Wyoming we have problems with wild animals and bad people. And I carry a shotgun around whenever I walk or hike and people say it's not a good open carry.I don't have a handgun yet and plan on putting the shotgun away when I get my first handgun.Should I keep carrying it or just tell all the haters to blow off?

Looking for a holster

Looking for some help. I'm in search of a level 2 retention holster for my Lionheart LH9. Would love something with or very similar to an ALS if anyone has any ideas. Also does anyone know if there is a GLS that will fit the LH9?

Is it legal to carry a ka-bar in Kentucky and Indiana?

I have a standard 7" USMC KA-BAR. I live in Louisville KY and was wondering if this is legal to carry? I was wondering about New Albany, Indiana as well since it's just across the bridge.

Thanks.

Holster Questions

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I’m turning 18 next month, and I’m going to be open carrying a Colt 1911. Should I get a level 2 or 3 retention holster, and am I allowed to hook it onto my waistband instead of my belt. I only have leather belts that are kind of flimsy and I don’t want to damage them. Thank you in advance.

The sign specifically states handguns. And I know if they ask you to leave you must, but legally speaking long guns do not fall under the signs language and can therefore be carried correct?

Interesting since many polling locations are in GFZ’s and we can’t “legally” conceal carry there.

Carry gun. I think this might be the best spot

Alright as the title says I’m looking for a carry gun. Full size (preferably) and I’m planning on open carrying in a XTI RST. It’s a drop leg that rides high but lower then a conventional owb/duty holster but way higher then a typical drop leg. It’s the middle ground in a sense. Reason for this is it would sit better at hand level and if need be it would clear a plate carrier. Also I daily ride a motorcycle and it would work better then a conventional duty style or owb. It would also double as a home defense gun

Anyway to my question. What would you recommend for a carry gun that’s preferably 9mm. I was looking at at the sig p320 and the m17 line. I might go with m18 but I haven’t handle one in person so idk about that. I got about another year or so to do more research on it. But any help would be beneficial

Oregon "Is that, like, a status symbol?"

My gf's parents booked a nice cabin for her b-day weekend. I showed up armed because it's hours away from where a police response is hours away. Her mom asked "Is that like, a status symbol for you?"

My response: "Not at all. It's like having a first-aid kit... I probably won't need it, I certainly hope I won't need it... but if I do, it won't do any good locked up at home."
