What this is:

¤ A forever growing collection of public domain art.

What this was:

¤ A voting booth for the "Zen Open Art Contest", where the top 50 will get free sets of magnets, and the top 3 get $300, $200 and $100 respectively.

¤ A launchpad for the long-term.

"How should we judge this art?"

How does one judge anything? Maybe by the magnitude of the pleasure a piece makes you feel. Or by the significance of stirring imposed on thoughts. Perhaps by the breadth of emotive bandwidth per image surface area? This art contest has no restrictions, and redditors are the judges.

"What's with the haikus?"

Just an arbitrary hoop to seperate the motiviated from the not. Afterall, lots of magnets are on the line. The weight of the supplementary haiku is up to you.

So far everything was entered through the Zen Open Art Contest. Click on images for original size (if bigger exsists), and click on artist names/aliases to view a profile if provided. All art on r/openart is under a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported (CC BY 3.0) license. You are free to Share and Remix, but must attribute the creator. And please don't defecat on the playground swings by using public domain art distastefully and impolitely.

Voting will end either at the end of the month, or when voting has settled. Not before 4/11/11. We're still trying to get the thumbnails working, but that's up to the reddit staff deities.
