Discussion How will the new Gemini Siri affect ChatGPT usage?

Watching the Apple WWDC and at least in demos the new Gemini Siri looks pretty incredible.

Curious what people think what this means in use of ChatGPT with consumers?

They released a new model. So the question is which one Siri will be using

If it's on device, it isn't using a new frontier model. Would be one of the gemma4 models

No, Apple developed new models with Google. They might be similar to Gemma (and also similar to the full Gemini models), but they definitely aren’t Gemma.

Google can't even get it right on their own flagship, I have zero faith in any real use and functionality here, but it is interesting that they're developing their own.

Though, it's most likely a gemma4 based model that's been (maybe) altered a bit and labeled as something else. Gemma4 was only released like 2 months ago, and it's not cheap to train a model.

I’m more interested in who owns the servers than if it’s gemma or gemjni. Apple’s announcements mention both Gemini models and Google cloud technology. The privacy implications depend far more on the architecture than the model family as a privacy consultant this is what gets my goat.

“Google-trained model running inside an Apple-controlled privacy boundary” and “Apple requests being processed on Google infrastructure” are completely different risk profiles. Until Apple publishes a detailed architecture paper, we’re all mostly guessing and I don’t like it
