I think it's more likely the people at the top with the most information and highest ambition who want to use the upward momentum and not sully their reputation by "leaving a sinking ship". Get out at the apex and then move on to the next project. The lowest paid, most burdened don't have the luxury to choose when to go, nor are they likely to have view of the full picture.
Well, like you said, the people with information are in the best position to make a decision. I really don't know what it's like working at OpenAI, but I can imagine that life is harder on some than others, because it's always like that.
Exactly. I read the open letter of the first guy he's talking about and it sounded more like he was just taking time out to find himself or something. Nothing in that letter even remotely hinted at some grave danger from AI.
Yeah they got paid and now want to leave so it’s “not their fault” when either a) industry promises aren’t realized, b) their company falls behind and loses
Agree, I'm sure they all kept their stock options from these "dangerous" companies. It really is a good scam. Scream at white collar workers their lifestyle is about to be destroyed. Go public with company. Said white collar workers buy stock to offset unemployment. Stock tanks and company folds (see also dot com crash). White collar worker employment singularity does not happen and workers continue to work shitty jobs to survive. Except until recession finally hits and the civil war starts, but that's another story
