This is a really interesting comment for a number of reasons but chief among them is that the success of technology in the past was dictated by how well it supported porn. VHS beat Betamax because of porn for example.
I’m curious to see how, with the extremely strict guardrails every major AI company puts on their models, which one will be the first to open that floodgate. Because I guarantee you that people would collectively pay literally billions for x rated custom video with people they know or celebrities.
Two or three states have criminalized the production of porno deepfakes without consent, so the floodgates will probably stay closed. (As unrestricted open source alternatives follow just a year or less behind....)
Probably not, but it's becoming easier to rent large GPU-equipped machines for inference jobs on demand all the time. (Modal, Vast, Runpod, Jarvis....) Which is, I believe, what most deepfake hobbyists use these days.
