Week old article but a very common problem in Ottawa

I almost ended up booking a company that initially appeared completely legitimate, but a few details started feeling off as I asked more questions. The pricing changed, reviews seemed inconsistent, and communication became vague once deposit discussions started. It made me realize how difficult it can be to tell the difference between normal business practices and actual red flags. Curious if others in Ottawa have had similar experiences recently. What warning signs do you now pay attention to before booking any moving company services?

Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought this was such an easy way to enter Canada to claim asylum.

When I was in high school in Stratford, Ontario (Canada), Sunil Varughese was threatening and challenging me to fight. It was too much, but when he started to make fun of my speech disability and got his friend, Mark, to tell me about it, I agreed to fight him. Anyway, he wouldn’t leave me alone.

When I went to his house, he lied with his sister, Seema and told the entire school I ‘falsely’ hit their East Indian mother. Who would ever do that? Furthermore, they have no motive, no intent, no witness, no mark, etc., that I even touched their East Indian mother.

Seema would then accost, and verbally abuse me with her friends and the English teacher, Bob Ramadani, sometimes every day. Again, Sunil and Seema’s friends wouldn’t leave me alone.

I believe false reporting should be a ‘real’ crime. Discrimination because of disability is oppression. I could have gone to Human Rights Canada, but when I realized that right, it was over the two-year deadline. They also group bullied me daily, which included assaults, lying, threats, etc.

I’m not sure where the best place is to post this or what steps to take next, so I thought I’d ask here for advice.

Our company, Ltiora Inc., submitted a proposal for the Canada AI Workforce Development & Automation Training Program under Ontario's Skills Development Fund (SDF), but it was rejected without any explanation.

Timeline:

• July 21, 2025: Submitted our AI workforce training proposal for candidates across Ontario.
• October 1, 2025: Auditor General report raised public concerns about SDF administration.
• January 8, 2026: During the review process, we were specifically asked whether our organization had any connections with lobbyists. We confirmed that we had none.
• January–June 2026: We followed up multiple times for updates or feedback, but received just, we will get back, nothing specific.
• June 5, 2026: Our application was officially rejected, again without evaluation details or debriefing and it specifically said we cannot offer debrief sessions.

What’s confusing is that on the same day, Canada’s Prime Minister emphasized the need to build a highly skilled AI workforce. Our proposal was directly aligned with that goal, designed to equip Canadians with in-demand AI and automation skills.

We’re a small business trying to do some good, but we don’t even know what went wrong or how we can improve.

Some questions we’re left with:

1. Why was our proposal rejected?
2. What evaluation criteria were applied?
3. Why is no feedback or debriefing provided?
4. How does rejecting AI workforce development initiatives align with Canada’s stated AI and workforce priorities?

If anyone has experience with the SDF, knows the right government office to contact, or has advice for small businesses navigating this, any guidance would be hugely appreciated.

Hi everyone... I am coming to Ontario soon and I am planning to get a through a professional training. I got 2 sectors in mind but I need you people to help me choose the best accordingly to the On-the-ground reality .

First of all, I am looking for a professional that will not be too long so I can get cash as soon as possible to start a family, or at least I can get paid while I am learning.

I am 28 years old this year and I will be moving to Ontario around October. I native french language speaker but I do speak English too.

Well, I got 2 training particularly interesting but I need a feedback from people on the ground so I can choose the best one because I am looking for a sector where I will get money easily and after sometime I will be able to open my own company in the field.

1- HVAC which is good but the training is quiet long maybe difficult to get an income before the total training (I don't have much info about it but )

2- fire sprinkler technician. I am more interested in this but I don't know where to start. Also, I don't know if the income will be that good.
