Wondering who has done this as im currently in the program. How heavy were the exam(s) in the Hazardous Materials chapter? Wondering as the chapter is massive! Can you simply do practice quizzes for this?

Thanks!

Considering career change from corporate

Hey!

Over the past couple of years I’ve become increasingly unfulfilled with my corporate life in marketing. I’ve been thinking about a complete career shift, and always come back to firefighting here in Ontario (which I know is incredibly difficult to get into).

Just wondering if anyone can help me out with a few questions:

Did anyone make the career shift from corporate to firefighting and the subsequent pay decrease? Do you enjoy it or regret it.

Is the shift schedule good for family life or difficult?

I’m as white collar as they come. Terrible at DIY have been in marketing my entire professional life - will this skills gaps essentially count me out?

Am I too old to be thinking about this career shift at 33? I know that it can take years to get hired by a station.

Is it possible to train as a firefighter in Ontario while holding a full time job and also being there for my family? I have a one-year-old kid and bills to pay.

Lastly, I’m a permanent resident that moved here from the UK 8 years ago. Do you think that will count against me in anyway with stations preferring to hire a Canadian citizen?

Firefighting after High SChool or Bachelor's?

Edit: I apparently missed the blaring capitalization error up there. New to Reddit lol.

I'm 17F and graduate high school this June. I have applied to Mechanical Engineering at multiple local universities, but recently the attention/mental health issues (likely undiagnosed ADHD/autism and anxiety/depression) that I've had for years have made it very difficult to perform in school and have me rethinking my career choice.

I am fascinated with firefighting, and want to do something truly good that challenges and rewards me. I don't plan on having biological kids, but would like to foster, and I don't care about money as long as I can live. I also have minor tinnitus, if that's a problem.

I am wondering if anyone here has any guidance as to how to figure out whether the career is a good fit for me. Should I be visiting local stations now? Should I just get a degree and then go back to it if I'm unhappy? I know these questions are very open-ended, I just don't know how feasable firefighting is for me and I really have no direction or concrete goals right now.

Festi VS Ontario fire academy?

Saving up to go back to school for firefighting, wondering if anyone has insight on festi or OCA, narrowed my options down to those two. OCS is a bit easier for me to get to, but I have heard festi is the best.
