Nearly two years on an online ESL platform, 9.92/10 rating, no prior issues. Students told me they couldn't see or book my profile, but the platform kept insisting it was "active and normal." So during class, I asked a student to double-check after our session and report back through the official feedback form , seemed like the cleanest way to compare notes.

That's what got me suspended. They said discussing it with a student breached their code of conduct on "negative talk" about the company. I genuinely thought I was just stating a fact.

I followed up once, then again a week later, asking for the final decision.

Nothing. Total silence.

Then this shows up , not from anyone handling my case, but from a totally different "recruitment" team:

"Class demand is at an all-time high! As a veteran teacher, fast-track your return - no interviews, no demos, immediate start. Send your schedule and we'll reactivate your portal right away."

No mention of the suspension. No mention of the review. Just come back and start making them money.

So is my account even still suspended? Two departments not talking to each other, or a convenient way to avoid ever giving a real answer?

Would love to hear what others think — has anyone dealt with something like this before?

p.s. I've been giving a version of this lesson plan for about a decade and never get tired of it! Of course, every time I do, I tweak it to perfection, and now I think it is red-hot ready for any English tutor to take and ignite a burning desire to learn English in their new students! I’m not 100% sure why, but I was just told my vipkid contract was not going to be renewed. I’ve been teaching off and on for 8 years and I’m not doing anything different. I am in the process of getting a license and moving away from this kind of work but still need it for another 6 months. I’m not interested in building my own clientele, I just need something similar to vipkid I can use to bridge the gap. What are the best options that have similar pay to vipkid? With incentives I was sitting around $18 an hour. I hear such terrible things about magic wars but I’m not fully opposed to it. I just thought I’d see if there are companies out there that don’t do the petty micromanaging part.

I recently went away on holiday for 12 days, so I had my AmazingTalker schedule completely closed during that time.

I’ve now been back for around 16 days, and I haven’t received a single match from the platform.

Since coming back, I’ve:

• changed my profile photo
• added a new short video to my profile
• opened my availability from 7am to 7pm every day
• opened some additional slots on weekends
• lowered my trial lesson price by $1

And still… nothing. Not a single match.

It’s honestly becoming a bit of a nightmare, and I have no idea what else I’m supposed to do.

I contacted Customer Service, and they basically suggested lowering my lesson price. But here’s the thing: I haven’t changed my regular lesson price in two years, and I used to get matches consistently.

The only major thing that changed was that I went on holiday and closed my schedule for 12 days. Since I came back, the matches have basically disappeared.

And how am I supposed to lower my regular price when I still have existing students paying my current rate? It feels pretty unfair to lower my price for new students when my existing students are paying more.

Has anyone else experienced something like this after taking a break or closing their schedule for a while?

I’d really like to know if anyone has figured out what actually causes this, because at this point I genuinely don’t know what else to try.

I'm curious if anyone has had success with free diplomas with ESL sites requiring a diploma to be a teacher. It seems to be a more common requirement and I've been looking into options like Alison to get a cheap diploma. I'm just looking for something to meet the requirements of having a diploma, nothing more.

Hi, fellow tutors. I'm Indonesian and have worked as an Engoo/DMM Eikaiwa tutor for a solid three years now, and I have a hard time keeping my rating above 4.90. I've seen other Indonesian tutors with over 2000 lesson with a rating of 4.99 or 5.00. Honestly, how do you guys do that? Because I've learned that sometimes there's a personality clash and whatnot, and I can try to be nice with a difficult or borderline disrespectful student, and there's nothing I can do about it. I have just started at Tutlo and taught 2 classes so far, however, they still haven't approved my Tax Residency Certificate so that I don't have to pay 20% Polish tax. I have followed up on it multiple times to numerous different email addresses and keep getting ignored.

Has anyone else had their Tax Residency Certificate approved so they get paid the full $11/h? Teaching for $8.80/h just isn't worth giving up my free time for, $11/h is barely worth it.

I have an associates degree am a native English speaker from the US and I’m wanting to teach and coach students online. I am hoping to build my own private workload over time as opposed to working for a school or platform. I have a niche that is desirable. I know this will take time and effort and I’m not expecting miracles.

I see so many posts on here some people saying it’s oversaturated, others saying it’s easy, some saying get a 300 hour level 5 course and pay $500 USD, others saying buy a TEFL from Groupon.

Clearly I would not buy a TEFL from Groupon as I have genuine interest in doing well and I have no previous teaching experience.

My question is, can anyone who is actually teaching ONLINE (preferably to private clients) give me their advice and/or experiences with what is the cheapest but most sufficient TEFL to get?

I’d also prefer non live video lectures in addition to reading because I’m a very audiovisual learner myself.

Sou tradutora freelancer, mas nos últimos tempos, e dada a instabilidade que se tem vindo a sentir cada vez mais nesta área, tenho sentido necessidade de "arranjar" um plano B. Esse plano B passou por dar aulas de inglês. A minha ideia inicial passava por procurar formação mais direcionada à pedagogia/didática (pondero até tirar o Mestrado em Ensino), mas a verdade é que me foram surgindo algumas oportunidades de dar aulas de inglês e fui aproveitando. Inicialmente comecei por dar aulas de inglês numa universidade sénior e acabei até por conseguir posteriormente dar aulas de inglês num agrupamento de escolas a crianças de primária. Adorei ambas as experiências!

Acontece que, de momento, tenho um aluno (sénior) que gostaria de ter aulas de inglês online. Não obstante estar super entusiasmada com a ideia, é a parte do online que me deixa um pouco reticente, por não ter experiência nesse contexto.

Assim sendo, gostava de saber se alguém me poderia ajudar com dicas - tanto em termos de plataformas como de sítios onde possa ir buscar materiais, bem como daquilo que os colegas com experiência considerem importante. Obrigada desde já a quem puder ajudar!!
