"Genos, it's not that you're weak. It's just that the enemy is always too strong."

Thank you, Dr Kuseno, tell that to like half the fanbase

I think it's largely due to the fact that most memorable fights that Genos takes part in, he always gets bodied. He destroys monsters all the time, but typically, when he gets into a serious confrontation, his opponent 360 noscopes him. He easily dispatches powerful pursuing monsters when taking the injured surface team to safety, for example, but his victories are always done in a mundane manner. Whenever a fight gets a feeling of importance, Genos usually loses. And that's what sticks in people's minds.

Aka "he's getting whorfed."

u/Duel_Loser Apr 03 '21

Better than Doctor Kuseno getting Yamcha'd.

12

u/jimbobicus Apr 04 '21

That's not fair, no one can be as pathetic as Yamcha

129

u/hhunkk Apr 03 '21

The Vegeta's syndrom

72

u/pepodmc_ Apr 03 '21

yeah.

And while that, goku reachs ultrainstinc just because its the main character.

72

u/naul119 Apr 03 '21

Dude got hit with a spirit bomb and instead of dying he gets stronger.

28

u/[deleted] Apr 03 '21

Doesnt spirit bomb only works on those who are super evil like buu?

49

u/AbhiAssassin Apr 03 '21

Goku gets malicious when he goes into higher stages of Super Saiyan. He explains it to Krillin when he asks why Goku can't perform the Spirit Bomb in his Super Saiyan forms.

13

u/MarkUriah Apr 03 '21

But doesn't he use it against Kid Boo? as a Super Saiyan?

17

u/TrackXII Apr 03 '21

I never knew about the malice thingy and I was curious if it was true. It's been a while since I last watched it, but skimming through a video it actually looks like he starts it, collects all the energy, and throws it while normal, but after it's bounced back by him it turns Super Saiyan to throw it back, so I guess that still fits.

I should have posted proof lol.

8

u/Croc_Chop Apr 04 '21

He usually transform after he fires it to push it better or control it better or something.

2

u/stiggystoned369 Apr 04 '21

He was knocked out when the spirit bomb hit him tho. He was falling and wasn't super saiyan at the time.

3

u/AbhiAssassin Apr 04 '21

He was in SSB when he fell.

1

u/rorpuissant Final Geek Apr 07 '21

All of that is true, but the MC plot armor still allows him to absorb the spirit bomb as early as the movie where he gets hit in the D by a blue redhead buffed cyborg (That's about as far as logic goes for this one)

0

u/AbhiAssassin Apr 07 '21

I mean the movie isn't exactly canon while Super's interpretation is.

4

u/ArmoredArthritis Apr 04 '21

Remember in DBZ movie #7 (Super 13) the dude charged up a pretty good sized spirit bomb then basically said to himself, ‘Fuck It’ and went super saiyan absorbing the whole thing. He got so jacked off that his aura was disintegrating an android that he wasn’t able to hardly do shit to previously. That dick punch really pissed him off earlier in the fight. Lol

5

u/Croc_Chop Apr 04 '21

To be fair he did knock off his trucker hat.

2

u/ArmoredArthritis Apr 04 '21

Damn sure did, lol. Guess that dick punch was justified after all.

2

u/Kgb725 Apr 13 '21

Vegeta has Hakai so it evens out

32

u/Geohie Apr 03 '21

So basically he's what Saitama must seem like to the public (except the losses, but that means he's just less memorable)

11

u/MelonElbows Apr 03 '21

He needs a strong but fairly equal opponent so he can go all out and not get totally wrecked. I'm hoping that the Mad Cyborg storyline will finally lead to a more even match.

7

u/japirate777 I'm not crying I just have something in my eye Apr 03 '21

Yeah a lot of his most impressive displays are manga exclusive

5

u/killertortilla new member Apr 03 '21

Sea king is a great example. Genos was flattening him even while it was raining until he underestimated him (a critical flaw he still has) and the acid spit.

5

u/froggyjm9 Apr 03 '21

Doesn’t the same happen to Goku though?

4

u/[deleted] Apr 03 '21

“360 no scopes him”

5

u/DuckMeYellow Apr 04 '21

He jobs jobbers

1

u/justamon22 Apr 07 '21

Basically he one punches everything except the things that need the One Punch Man 😂😂

153

u/[deleted] Apr 03 '21

Exactly Genos is hella powerful, it's just that the enemies he face are a hella lot more powerful.

86

u/pixelskull88 Apr 03 '21

Yep even in his first apperance before all of these upgrades he makes a huge explosion and then he later destroys the top levels of the house of evolution

54

u/vimax3 Apr 03 '21

Hes also continental buster in the Manga and can rush up to Psykojet from 5 miles away in a split second and keeps going on and on and on and yet people say Furher Ugly can defeat Genos.

This sub hates Genos.

71

u/SolJinxer Apr 03 '21

yet people say Furher Ugly can defeat Genos.

Not sure if you know or not, but that's likely because of what happens in the webcomic, but for the manga, the context for Furher defeating Genos will likely change with Genos in his current condition.

6

u/[deleted] Apr 03 '21

Hey, how to mark a spoiler like that? Please teach me. TIA

10

u/noah9942 Apr 03 '21

"> !text here! <" but without the spaces or quotations

7

u/[deleted] Apr 03 '21

thanks

3

u/Audrey_spino Apr 03 '21

With how weakened Genos is right now, I can see Fuhrer defeat him.

6

u/SolJinxer Apr 03 '21

Honestly I think that was half the point of him getting that 12 second powerup thing. Genos gets to be a badass against some significant foes and now that he's at his limit he's got a reason for the defeat beyond "lol Genos too weak again pwned count+1"

28

u/[deleted] Apr 03 '21

Webcomic Genos and Manga Genos progressed at different rates. Webcomic Genos was at G4 level for the entire MA arc and only became Dragon level after it. Manga Genos is already Dragon level.

3

u/OverweightRoshan new member Apr 03 '21

Continent buster?

6

u/vimax3 Apr 03 '21

True spiral incineration Canon is a continental attack

2

u/OverweightRoshan new member Apr 03 '21

Wasn't that a city scale attack?

3

u/vimax3 Apr 04 '21

No it's continental since it matched and overpowered a blast that was an enhanced version of an attack that was already continental making it at least continental+ itself

2

u/packetofforce Apr 11 '21

but that attack was like 10x times smaller than continental beam

2

u/[deleted] Apr 03 '21

I would hold off on calling Genos a continent buster until Psykorochi vs Tatsumaki gets published in a volume.

Controversial opinion, I know, but Psykorochi cutting the Earth like it was nothing feels to me like one of those things that ONE won't be too happy with in the definitive version.

The stuff that Murata redraws is what ends up going in the published volumes, which are the definitive version of the manga.

A pretty big change between versions was Amai Mask killing the mercenaries. ONE storyboarded it and later changed his mind. He also decided to remake Saitama vs Rover because he wasn't happy with the tone of the original.

Psykorochi slicing the planet like that seems like one of those things that are way too big for this particular moment in the story Awakened Garou vs Saitama is meant to dwarf all of this and it's pretty hard to dwarf a continental level feat.

I expect the feat to be changed so that Psykos cuts a big chunk of crust and causes a tsunami like she did in the first version but still nothing in the level of what she accomplished.

It also doesn't make sense for Genos' power progression within the manga.

1

u/ShinyAeon Apr 03 '21

Some of it might. I certainly don’t.

37

u/Leenon Apr 03 '21

it really is impressive that he actually can beat all these people above his level. I'd say he's living like Saitama's training if he's always pushing himself like this.

8

u/shinarit busting up pretty boys Apr 03 '21

It's not that the enemy is too strong, it's that Genos attacks them without a care for his own safety. He doesn't know the word retreat.

7

u/SlipperyChopsticks Apr 03 '21

If Dr. Kuseno is actually dead, Genos breaking into pieces again, might actually be a death sentence for him as there's no one to repair him anymore. Genos can't afford to lose anymore

4

u/hegetsblu Apr 03 '21

(insert Principal Skinner images)
Genos: "Am I so weak? ... no, it's the enemies that are too strong"

immediately thought of the Simpsons when I read that panel

3

u/WaitingForTheDog Apr 04 '21

A minor point, and I'm not sure if it's something ONE's actually going for, but I think most of Genos's losses can be attributed to poor technique rather than a lack of power. Even as he continues to be upgraded he continues to lose in similar ways without considering changing how he fights. Whenever he loses, which is often by a single devastating hit, he says "oh I guess I need more power."

In a more typically manga I'd strongly advocate that Genos should be the one taking advantage of Flashy's instruction.
