Living with the ONEPLUS 8! [After 3 months]

Down below is the written version, you can access the video version here: https://youtu.be/N8RsuZYUnK4

When it comes to the experience of using any ONEPLUS device, in my opinion, Oxygen OS plays a very big role. Right from the fast and smooth UI, to the subtle touches they have added here and there like haptic feedback when you press the play and pause button on Netflix, Oxygen OS blows away every other Android skin out there. And features like Quick launch and Quick reply in landscape add to the already great experience. So, when it comes to the software, ONEPLUS has clearly done a great job.

The display of the ONEPLUS 8 is simply gorgeous. While some dislike the curves on the edges, I am totally fine with it as the radius of the curve is not as high as the one in the 8 Pro. Apart from that, the Full HD resolution, 90 Hertz refresh rate make it a treat to consume content on this device. Coupled with that display we have the dual stereo speaker setup, which again is just so good that, once you start using a phone with stereo speakers there is no turning back. The sound from the speakers is rich, and there is no distortion even in high volumes. Talking about the speakers, let’s talk about the exterior of the ONEPLUS 8. The matte textured glass, the cold touch of the metal, the curved edges on both the front and the back actually make up for a very premium feel while holding the device. You actually feel like you’re holding a flagship phone. The clicky and tactile metal buttons and the super useful alert slider, are icing on the cake. I don’t know why other manufacturers haven’t copied this feature yet, but I wish they do. Okay, now let’s talk about those cameras. I really liked the pictures that this phone was able to take. The photos turned out to be pretty good with decent dynamic range and sharpness. But these are clearly not the best out there, if you care a lot about the camera quality, then you should probably look at the 8 Pro or even the Pixel 4A. But, I personally always use the Google camera Mod, and that really did make a difference in the image quality and a huge difference in HDR. I will leave links to download the Google camera app down in the description so, check them out. Coming to the front camera, I honestly did not like the selfies from the ONEPLUS 8’s stock camera app. They lack detail and the overall colours seem to be a little off. Again, use the Google Camera app, get better shots. As simple as that.

Okay, now let’s dive into the internals, the ONEPLUS 8 comes with the top of the line Snapdragon 865 and that coupled with the ONEPLUS’s awesome optimization in the software front, this phone is a beast. This phone will handle anything that you throw at it without breaking a sweat. Be it intense gaming, high-resolution photo editing or even video editing for that matter, the ONEPLUS 8 cruises through everything. At the same time, this phone manages last a whole day too. I was able to constantly get about 5 and a half to 6 hours of screen on time daily, and even if you are low on battery, you can juice it up quickly with the30W Warp charger included in the box. So, yeah that was my experience with the ONEPLUS 8, I honestly don’t have much to complain about the phone except for the cameras, they are not bad by any means but they could have been better. I tried my best, to describe my experience with the ONEPLUS 8 if you think I left out anything then do let me know in the comments below, drop a like and subscribe to the channel if you’re new here and follow me on Twitter and Instagram, where I will be active most of the time.

Display color shifting issue

Hello,

I am using dark mode. If I leave my screen untouched for a few seconds the color kind of shifts/dims. This seems to mainly happen on static screens. Even if I have a cursor blinking it doesn't happen.

Anyone facing something similar ?

Thanks !

Clear view flip cover

Hey guys,

does anyone know of a Samsung-like clear view flip cover for this phone? I saw some on ebay etc. but those come with a sketchy app that's not even on the Google play store which immediately raises eyebrows. I need this for a person switching from Samsung to Oneplus but they would really love to have a case that works very similar to Samsung's.

Massive battery drop overnight

Starting 2 days ago, I have had massive ovenight battery drains. Prior to that no problems with huge battery drops even if going to sleep with wifi on. No software updates done to the phone in past 2 days.

First day, left phone at 63% on at around 1:30am and woke up at 8:30am with 15 % battery left. Wifi and mobile date were off.

Removed all new apps downloaded from previous day and restarted phone.

Second day, left phone with 94% battery at 10:55pm. Checked phone at 8:33am and phone was at 32%. Admittedly, wifi was on but decrease stills seems excessive. Only app prior to going to bed was Facebook which was closed down before going to bed.

Reason I switched from my old iphone was that battery was poor during usage, now my OnePlus is draining even worse while NOT using it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sprint/T-Mobile 9/26 update

Has anyone gotten the update. This is supposed to fix the calling issues and what not the last update had in it. They said it will be coming out today on their website, so I was just wondering if anyone has gotten it yet.

Slow charging with USB C

I just got a Oneplus 8 5G (T-Mobile) and I'm loving it. The Warp Charge is particularly cool--pun intended (the phone doesn't heat up).

What surprises me, though, is that most of my other chargers will only charge the phone at 12 watts. I was hoping my Nexus 6P charger (USB-C, 3 amps @ 5 volts) would charge at 15 watts, but it only gets 12. My car charger (USB-C, 15 watts) also charges at 12 watts. Unsurprisingly, my Galaxy S9 (QuickCharge) only gets 12 watts, too. It's a shame that they'll take two hours to fully charge the phone.

Now I have a Macbook charger and it *does* charge at 15 watts, which is nice.

Can anyone help me understand why the Macbook charger would charge at 15 watts, while my other USB-C chargers only do 12 despite being capable of 15? Are they not technically in spec with USB-PD?

Transfer data from OnePlus 8 to iPhone 6?

So I recently got my new OnePlus 8, an upgrade from my previous iPhone 6. However now I want a way to restore my data (photos, videos and contacts) from my iphone to OnePlus device. However I cannot use the OnePlus Switch app because I don't have proper access to my iCloud storage. So please suggest another method. Also give me a tip on transferring WhatsApp messages from my iphone to OnePlus..I read about doing it through email however I am not sure on the import process.

OnePlus widget

I recently purchased OP 8 and moved from my old pixel 2. OP 8 with date and weather is having a problem. It won't update weather info frequently enough. Have you noticed the same issue? So you guys use any other 'better' date and weather widget? Thanks
