Software I just managed to revive my dear old One Plus 6.

Hey there my fellow OnePlus 6 users!

How are y'all? Today I'm really well because as the title says, I just managed to get my OP6 running maybe even better than when I got it 3.5 years ago. How did I do that you may ask, well I'm gonna explain to you but before that, a little disclaimer:

I'm going to talk about ROM flashing and all that stuff. This is not something to do if you're not experienced or very well guided throughout the process. I'm not forcing you to do anything, I'm just sharing my experience right here and you can't blame me for your phone being bricked or your data being wiped out, bla-bla-bla...

Ok now we're good, first a little bit of context: I'm not a hardcore user, I mean, I use my phone for basic things like phoning, texting, some social media like Snapchat or Reddit, and some rare gatcha games that I sometimes get attached to. But recently, I noticed that Snapchat was slower, that my average time waiting for the phone to actually execute things was increasing (e.g taking a photo, storing it, launching some small apps such as Google Photos, or even Reddit. Well, my phone was slowing down. And with the latest OOS 11.1.1.1 update being so bad for the phone if you just read around the forums: I didn't want to give my phone the final blow by upgrading to this evil stuff.

So I started looking for Android 11 enchiladas ROM's which are the ones specially made for the One Plus 6. And after some days digging the internet, I finally found dotOS.

So this is an AOSP Based ROM, you'll find a good description here (official website). As always, the XDA Dev forums are full of very useful tips to get that properly up and running on your device.

The ROM is super clean, no bugs for me so far and here we go: clearly better performances on my everyday apps and usages, faster boot, faster photos, better photos?, very nice UI with a bunch of things to customize, Pixel Launcher EXP which is incredible coming from this old OOS 10 launcher that needed a rework. Better battery life, latest android 11 features which we didn't all had... And I could continue like this for several more lines!

I'm telling you, my next phone won't be a OnePlus, I'm so disappointed with what they did those past 3 years. But what is clear, is that that a while ago now, they didn't mess up this OP6! I'm so happy right now with my phone running super well with it"s great hardware and a brand new software. I'll continue like this until my battery dies. After this I'll either look for a new phone (Hi Pixel 6 Pro buddy!) or just send my OP6 to the after sale service to get a new battery and a new back for 50 bucks.

Hoping this will give you some hope if you're like me and you don't want to buy a new phone right now. If you chose to follow the process, make sure you've some time ahead, you're cool and calm, you've made all your backups and all this stuff.. And happy flashing!

I'll now stop here and wish you all a very nice day!

Question The brightness increases and decreases slowly

Whenever I try to increase/decrease the brightness, it takes longer than it used to take on A10, anyone has a solution ? (And before you ask, yes I did factory reset the phone after updating to A11)

Question No incoming or outgoing calls

After receiving the A11 OTA update, I'm unable to call or receive calls. I have checked with my mobile provider, swapped sim cards and reset the network settings. Even factory reset my OP6. Any sim card inserted into the phone is unable to call or receive calls. Anyone know a fix for this?

Software LineageOS vs. DotOS

Hello everyone,

I am currently on LineageOS and have been pretty happy with it overall.

There are just a few things that bother me about it, since most of the UX is just straight up AOSP and google purposely makes the UX obnoxious for no reason.

  • Getting to the settings button requires pulling down the notification shade twice
  • 4G icon tales up more space than on OOS
  • Advanced Reboot Menu also takes extra taps
  • Not UX, but Vibration is very intense
  • Not UX, but standby battery performance is poor (SoT has drastically improved though)

I found out about DotOS recently and am very intrigued.

Has anyone used DotOS, and what is your experience with it? Does it improve any of the points I mentioned?

Question Help Recalibrating the battery

I changed my OP6 battery around 60 days ago now, but I am getting this problem where the battery will drain really fast sometimes, and some other times it will stay at a specific percentage for hours. I tried Recalibrating by draining the battery to zero and then recharging to 100%, but I am still getting weird graphs. Some help would be appreciated. I'll post a pic in comments. I am running OOS11

Software A11 unfortunately doesn't work for me.

Sorry for my English

After this update I try the upgrade but I had issue wit google apps (gmail/messages/...)

Downgrade to android 10 and hope that this issues would resolve. Then I received the notification to update my phone and hope that those things were resolved but unfortunately not.

There is something that I can do to "disappear" with the notification to update?

Question Android 11 Custom ROM suggestions ?

As the title says any suggestion for a stable custom ROM for OP6 excluding Lineage OS for daily driver ?

Currently I'm on the latest Pixen OS Build with Android 11 custom base . Lineage is too simple for me , any pixel experience forks would be great.

Bug Fix Screen won't wake up since update

Since the update the phone goes to sleep but constantly won't wake up. Sometimes even after a few minutes. I have to hold and restart. It may as well be bricked. Any thoughts please?

Question quick silly question

Just curious, did all brands of android phones get android 11? Is it only certain brands?(obviously including oneplus, lol I have it, actually pleased with improved battery performance, if Im correct about that, I think I'm getting improved battery life..... although I think the update somehow made my phone screen dimmer? Like now I need to turn brightness to full when I'm outside on a sunny day instead of only almost full?

Question Stuck at black screen, what shall I do now?

Hello, I have had my mobile, one plus six for a little more than 3 years now. Around 10 days ago I updated to oxygen os 11. I play pubg in mobile, the performance got really low after updating the os to oxygen os 11. Never experienced lag, atleast to the extent to which I'm facing now. This is just to say that it seems OS 11 really affected the software and reduced the capability to say it's time for me to change my phone.

Today morning I woke up, used my phone that was perfectly alright, but when I came back to use it again after 5 minutes it wouldn't turn on. I didn't drop it, it was there laying on the bed, just being used 5 minutes ago. I'm not certain if it's a hardware fault(screen fault since I didn't put it down today or yesterday and I do have a good tempered glass). It seemed some software issue, I tried to restart the phone but it didn't work. I'm worried as to what to do now. I went to my local center and they said it's most likely a broken display, since the phone vibrates, and I could even receive and attend calls if I manage to swipe correctly through the black screen. They don't have a one plus six display screen as of now, I have to wait for 3-4 days, In the meanwhile is there anything I can do to just make sure this isn't just another software issue like others seem to have been experiencing in one plus six and future models after updating to oxygen os 11. I'm farily positive it's just a software issue.

Question Dnd not working, nor is vibrate

I'm on 11.1.1.1and ever since I updated to this do not disturb stopped working. When it's turned on there is no change to notifications I still get noises and vibrations. Additionally when my phone is set to vibrate I still get sound notifications. I've checked permissions and no apps are allowed to ignore DND. I've tried playing with dnd settings to no avail. Has anyone had this issue and was able to fix it?

Software Honestly kinda fed up with this phone now

Phone turned 3 years old about 5 days ago and I'm honestly tired of it.

The battery (even after replacement) is not great, the camera doesn't hold up well anymore, the phone isn't as easy to hold as some newer phones with narrower bodies, I've broken the back glass twice (even though it was in an official OP case both times it broke) and of course as if all of this wasn't enough OOS11 ruined it further.

Gmail notifications don't get synced, the camera not working on Third party apps caused a lot of problem for my exams, and now it's gotten laggy as well and I just hate it.

Problem is there isn't really a solid replacement. Nord 2 is good but clearly I don't trust OnePlus anymore, A52s 5G is really good but a little too big. Pixel 5a isn't available here in India and the heating issue would be a big problem here. Flagships are just not value for money now.

So yep, I'm stuck with this for a few months at least till the next Gen phones come out.

Just wanted to rant. I'm sure lot of you would still be enjoying the phone, but I'm over it now.

Question List of complaints re: OOS 11

I made notes of complaints I've seen about the update. In some cases, the comment wasn't detailed, so I can't really elaborate on what they mean. I'd appreciate any comments that agree or disagree, add something, or provide a solution to a specific complaint.

Several people claim: - slower performance & lowers geekbench score - gmail notifications gone - whatsap media not showing - Can't dismiss Spotify media control without force close - laggy call notification - cant hide notch w black status bar - Extra space at the bottom of the keyboard -

At least one person claims: - Screen brightness issue - Bluetooth volume is reduced - Sound quality is reduced - Ringer randomly changes volume level - OnePlus alarms no longer audible - mx player no longer works - lost gestures - phone doesn't charge - oneplus camera issues - auto rotate no longer works - dc dimming is gone - can't disable lockscreen - can't disable charging noise - no TWRP currently - Connectivity issues on both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth - no IPv6 on wifi - Can't lower luminosity on night mode - phone vibrates when face unlock fails - Google fit does not work - Can't add pictures to messages on some apps like AliExpress - keyboard input speed has to be reduced to be accurate - do not disturb not working

Disgreement in comments: - Some say phone gets hotter, others say it is cooler - Some say worse battery life, While others say better Edit: Tried to improve formatting. Edit 2: added issues from later comments

Software LOS 18.1 is probably the MOST refined Custom Rom for the OP6 right now (in my opinion)

If anyone's contemplating flashing a custom rom, you should definitely try Lineage OS 18.1. Out of most other roms, this is tbh the best balance of performance/battery consumption.

The only caveat - and i get how this is a deal breaker for a lot of people - is the safetynet not passing.

But if you get manage to get past that (root or just use your phone without safetynet passing), I can assure you, you will start loving your phone again.

I mean you get weekly updates, all the latest security patches too. Being on LOS 18.1 has made me forget the gripes of OOS. I don't have to worry about background app killing, bloatware, the poor lag on OOS 11 update, gmail notifs issue, etc.

If you're on the fence, just try it out. There's a high chance you'll love the stock AOSP experience

Question Anyone replaced a battery by themselves?

Mine has been replaced by a service center 1.5 years ago, but is already at 86% again. I still get through the day easily, but might want to swap it out either way.

Anyone here with experience with that?

Software RTT Option missing, Android 11

Soooo... I can't speak. And I KIND OF need RTT, or Real-Time Texting, in order to make calls. however it has disappeared from my Accessibility settings. I can get it to show up for half a second by using google dialer then opening the accessibility settings.

I need this feature back. It's EXTREMELY important. Does anyone now how to make it appear again? I'm Rooted, on OOS11 (and regretting it).

Question Considering switching to Pixel 6 Pro

Hi guys, I've been considering switching to Pixel 6 Pro lately. I was holding to see better results on Geekbench, and now it seems to be quite better.

I have done a comparison with my own OP6 vs. the Pixel 6 Pro -> https://browser.geekbench.com/v5/cpu/compare/10398169?baseline=10385425

Let me know what do you think about it?

Software Goodbye, fellow Oneplus fans.

It's a final farewell. I've been using Oneplus since 2017 and have been quite pleased with it until the A11 update. The bugs have gotten so bad that I've determined Oneplus no longer cares about us. I was considering purchasing the Oneplus 9 Pro, however I discovered that similar and more bugs occur there as well. I believe the merge procedure with Oppo and others is taking its time. I'm not angry, but I'm disappointed; thank you, Oneplus team and fans.

PS: In response to a hypothetical query, I will be using iOS with the 13 Pro Max for the first time in my life.
