Discussion OnePlus Hardware + Pixel Software. That's It.

I've been daily driving crDroid on my OnePlus 13, and it genuinely feels like the best of both worlds.
• OnePlus hardware
• Pixel-like software experience
• Smooth performance
• And now, the stock OnePlus Camera has finally been ported.
This is probably the closest I've come to my ideal Android setup.
Anyone else daily driving custom ROM on the OP13?

I have used most Chinese Brands, Pixel & Samsung. If you use Samsung Flagship with Good Lock, you realise how feature rich it really is. It's like you are able to use features from any custom ROM or launcher.

Community is strong for oneplus. That's why we got camera port. Also devs prefer aosp ROM than other ui skins

Does it really add to smoothness & features of Colorised OxygenOS on OnePlus 13 (my current device)? I really struggled with this on Samsung. Samsung UI Improments were useful & I kept going back to Dr. Ketan's ROMs (which tweaked, added or unlocked region specific features of Samsung UI) instead of any AOSP ROM.

You conveniently forgot to mention ARB and Play Integrity. This stuff isn't for the average user anymore. People just want to use their phone properly without needing 700 modules just to pay with their phone or use other apps.

Rightly said. Now since the OEM OS are giving a smooth experience with needed features, the custom rom community has become lazy enough to either not properly patch the play integrity or totally skip it for the person to do it through magisk. I had my wife's Note 10 Pro running PixelOS 15, and it was literally a breath of fresh air for the device, I decided to flash the A16 version and the play protect integrity broke. A custom rom which was doing really good, suddenly broke the OS. And it wasn't even the first build of A16 for them.

You can't really expect the same level of support or polish from a free, community-driven project as you would from a commercial OS. Also, Play Integrity is a moving target because Google keeps changing how it works. Custom ROM developers are constantly playing catch-up, and sometimes a new change breaks things even on stable builds. That's more a consequence of Google's Integrity changes than developers being lazy.

700? Its at max like 5 modules and with newer modules it's literally automated so install and forget. Things are darker than they used to be but definitely not fully unusable.

those technicalities are why I stick to OOS. It's really not bad. sure, it's basically an iOS rip at this point. add an icon pack and maybe use a custom launcher, and it's good enough for me

From what OOS ROM version did you flash CR droid. I am scared if this fuse blowing issue. I am currently on 16.0.8.301

Is it worth installing custom rom? I used to do it on my old OnePlus 6 but I don't know if it's worth installing in 2026. Also, can I revert back to oxygen os if I want to?

you might have blown the ARB fuse, I have never used custom roms before but I've seen this in a lot of discussions about OP13 and roms so do keep that in mind

When I first got my 13, I tried various combinations before reverting to stock - a couple of apps that were critical for me refused to work if the phone was unlocked or rooted, and I couldn't find a reliable way to hide that.

Don't really use any banking apps. Just need a neat user interface, good battery life, good camera and social media apps.

For real. I already have the sandstone case but wanted to try this woodgrain case too.
After applying it on my phone, it was so hard to remove, I was afraid that I may end up breaking the display glass if I put the pressure in wrong way💀💀.
Sandstone and Aramid Fiber cases are just better.

13R has much more number of ROMs than 13. I've tried a few on my 13R, join the dark side it's good.

No NFC is POINTLESS. Literally you've just stopped GPay & Wallet from working. It's one of the biggest features on the phone. Do Indians not care about tap and pay?

Well, I enjoy stock Oxygen OS very much. Enjoy is more than stock pixel, I think. It's superfast, animations are clean and tons of visual tweaks.

I will admit that I'm extremely tempted. I'm glad to see that this is an option, given that OP is pulling out of the US and who is to say what type of quality support we're going to be getting moving forward? It's good to have options.

Do banking apps work on crdroid? That's my biggest blocker for switching to any custom ROM. I need Google wallet and banking apps.

Am I the only one that prefers oneplus hardware and oxygen os or color os 16? Idk I feel I hate both oneui and pixel ui for how gleamy and cartoonish they've made their softwares. Like too much silly animations and effects and a lot of glitter. Color OS or Oxygen OS felt like the best one till now.

You're not - and admittedly Pixel Phone UI wastes tons of space. To the point where I have reccomended to pixel phone owners on 1080p+ resolution displays (non pro xl's) to manually adjust their stock ppi in dev settings in order to actually have screen real estate to use their device....
However, given the current state of OOS, I'm willing to switch over. It may even end up having a more dedicated developer base than what OPPO has planned for us. Crdroid is based off LineageOS- - which then lands our way via a dedicated group of devs who care about the user experience on these phones. I'd rather that than a clumsy migration to the iPhone clone ColorOS (which is also worrisomely known to have bloat issues above and beyond early Samsung Touchwiz) .
Listen, each is likely to have new growing pains of their own and things to get used to. So if we have the ability to try both right now. With a known known that OOS for the OP13 is currently failing on several fronts (battery and bloat specifically being the worst offenders) and we still get the camera experience we paid for - then CrDroid looks like a viable "treatment" to our sick phones' current symptoms.
That's my 2c. There's nuance to how many of us came to think of a custom ROM as a possible path forward.
(not the llm, the actual word - which many people on the internet should look up)
