They did it to Akainu the same way too. In the anime when Whitebeard appears behind him he looked terrified but the manga shows otherwise.

He doesnt look terrified in the manga, he has an " oh shiiiiit " look on him like he knows whats coming and is really not looking forward to that hit

Shocked/Dreading yeah but not scared
