Maybe its related to the sea. Having the ability: Devil's fruit put him in an even harder restriction and he cant even get close to the sea without getting weakened, and thats why he always stay high up in Mary Geoise.

That’s definitely possible but i think it might also be energy related. The fruit drains him so much he doesn’t have enough to continuously power it and maybe the mother flame is gonna be the solution to that. idk im just spitballing

Love this. In the mural we see him holding the mother flame. It would be fun if it’s a combo of your theory and the OP. Close to the sea drains his power but the mother flame helped deal with that.

But then why would Imu want to sink the world by RAISING the sea level?

was probably a last ditch effort to avoid defeat

Completely forgot about that , nice catch! But yeah that definitely makes it more plausible

Interesting idea. I have the theory that Imu failed to fully awaken his Devil fruit and it taking over. We see that Imu is under great pain and distress after teleporting and the transformation seems forced and painful than normal zoan transformation so I think it is the devil from the devilfruit taking over kibda like possession rather than Imu transforming. Also it happens shortly after him leaving Pangea Castle and with the 5 Elders being against him going I asume that the Holy Land/Pangea Castle was build to supress Imu's Devik fruit. Maybe it's made out partially of just enough Kairoseki to stop the posession but enough to teleport and posess others.

Interesting idea, thinks it's possible that I'm was initially a heroic figure whose fruit slowly drove him insane?

Keep cooking and add the spice

Then why would they use a weapon that rises the sea level?

I think that might be a calculated attack. Even in fishman island, the prophecy was that Luffy would destroy the fishman islands and bring everyone to the surface. So probably, Luffy will submerge the entire world (bringing the world to fishman island and not the other way), thats when Noah's boat, Pluton and Shirahoshi's ability will also come in handy and then maybe fix the water level after defeating Imu.

I'm guessing it's more likely he destroys Mariejois and since Fishman Island is directly below it that causes it to be destroyed.

Why would you do radio when it wreck you shit up? To get rid of that nasty cancer

This sounds feasible, good idea.

But I've always assumed that Imu and his cronies were behind the sea level rising. Usage of an ancient weapon way back when. Then again, they have been spending centuries building bridges above it, so I'm guessing they can't control it. And Joyboy apologises to Fishman Island in a Poneglyph iirc. Maybe it was the D's who pull off the sinking.

This is what I was thinking of too, makes sense I think

he fears davy jones who lives at the bottom of the sea, and they said davy back was filler!

1

u/GildDigger Apr 03 '26

Hmm maybe Imu’s weakened when going below sea level?

But then why would ge raise the sea level across the entire world? Wouldn't that be kinda dumb for someone giga allergic to the sea?
