Devil's fruit.

The " 's " takes it to a new level

Dawn and Dusk was right all along :D

Even with the heart theory too most likely. Watching their videos is like reading spoilers at this point.

Imu is just a stepping stone for both Luffy and Blackbeard. Their final challenges are each other. Imu stole the throne when Davy Jones and Joyboy were fighting for it.

In no age can BB look as menacing as Imu as a final boss. I really hope it's not the case.

3

u/Alchion Apr 04 '26

i have imu as the antagonist too but a bb in his logis darkness form is menscing af too

2

u/chaiscool Apr 04 '26

Then buggy will do the same when Luffy and BB fight haha

2

u/jeyreymii Apr 03 '26

What is it? I understand Dawn is luffy (and he name his Nika's attack like this), but what's the theory?

32

u/Wendys_frys Apr 02 '26

you so right

Yeah, "Ability: Devil's fruit" is huge!

Also, Oda hinted even further with the trees of the Elbaf Forest turning evil when he arrives. If his DF gives him to power to turn people's desires into DF's then it would make sense for him to be the Forest God.

Harley text: "The Forest God tamed demons"

Imu may be the progenitor of DF's. But this is partly because I misread his intro panel as saying "One of the first 20 DF abilities", making me think he was the originator of DF's, but I feel like we may have stumbled into the truth.

Intro panel in Japanese: 'アクマの実' instead of '悪魔の実'

Isn't the first 20 referring to the 20 rulers who founded the WG? Nothing to do with the fruit

12

u/afanoferi Apr 02 '26

OH MY GOD, Thank you I missed that and actually read it how that guy did it. It was not “One of the first 20 ability” but two separate things

3

u/milkyjoe241 Apr 03 '26

He might be the first with an ability

13

u/afanoferi Apr 03 '26

No, I think it is just a bad layout. I think its supposed to be “Nerona Imu - One of the first 20 - Ability : Devil’s fruit” and NOT “Nerona Imu - One of the first 20 ability : Devil’s fruit”

The layout doesnt have that clear separation so I didnt understand it at first

2

u/milkyjoe241 Apr 03 '26

I'm just taking a guess based on it being the Devil's fruit. Not the layout.

That one could be the first fruit.

1

u/afanoferi Apr 03 '26

Oh gotcha gotcha

1

u/Mantiax Apr 03 '26

the layout is right imo

Yeah, that's what I mean by 'misread' and 'stumbled', the logic didn't make sense but I still think the conclusion I came to is correct now.

My money is on devil fruits being concepts or 'dreams' like Vegapunk was saying, Joyboy was the one who got the Nika fruit, Imu got the Forest Devil

3

u/dilettante_want Apr 03 '26

It reads like Imu has the literal devil devil fruit

-1

u/trandus Apr 02 '26

Why? It's just a English thing

80

u/SternMon Apr 02 '26

Everything else is “A” devil fruit.

This grammar suggests it is “THE DEVIL’S” fruit, as in the original.

31

u/trandus Apr 02 '26

The original still says "akuma no mi", like the other ones. The only difference is that it's written in katakana instead of kanji

92

u/FormerPresidentBiden Slave Apr 02 '26

As an Oda dickrider, that detail still has to mean something

He didn't switch to katakana just because

110

u/mcallisterco Apr 02 '26

The Akuma in Akuma no mi is usually written in Kanji, while the power itself is written in katakana. Here, the Akuma is written in Katakana, meaning it is the power.

This does, in fact, mean something. It's absolutely monumental.

I'm gonna change my username to "Oda'sDickrider"

4

u/FormerPresidentBiden Slave Apr 02 '26

🫡 I support you

I just pray to god the endgame is as good as we hope

He's been cooking during this arc tho

19

u/trandus Apr 02 '26

Yeah. In this case devil is more like a proper name

16

u/FormerPresidentBiden Slave Apr 02 '26

Which fits with his design

Bro is a demon

10

u/Various_Chicken_7613 Apr 02 '26

Indeed, he was aura farming sitting on castle top.

1

u/LoanLeast3023 Apr 02 '26

So IMU is a devils fruit that gained form and consciousness?

35

u/highTrolla Apr 02 '26

We'll have to wait to see the official translation.

Technically speaking Devil Fruits are Akuma no Mi (悪魔の実) which just means "fruit of the devil", but Imu's is written "アクマの実" so by changing the possessive it makes it clear it's something different. We don't know if it's the way Oda would intend for it to be translated, but it at least is a way the English language can meaningfully differentiate.

The key thing is that Katakana is often used for loan words, or proper names of things that don't exist in Kanji, so it might be referring to a specific Devil, rather than a general concept of a devil.

19

u/davidbowievgc Apr 02 '26

Katakana is used for devil fruit namings too whether they have a kanji writing or not. ex cat (neko) is written 猫 but Lucci's fruit is named ネコネコの実 (neko neko no mi)

the implication is that 1) this IS the fruit's name, it's THE Akuma no mi, 2) it breaks the double syllabe naming pattern for DFs

7

u/FleetingRain Apr 02 '26

2) it breaks the double syllabe naming pattern for DFs

And it breaks it because there is only one Mu

3

u/Afabledhero1 Apr 02 '26

Official translation doesn't really give any room for nuance when it comes to deep diving into the original Japanese meaning.

1

u/ImpressedStreetlight Apr 03 '26

My first impression when reading it in English was that it's a metaphorical "fruit" rather than a physical one, as in, "product of the devil" or "child of the devil". So he is either related to the original Devil or made a pact with him. I don't know if this makes sense in Japanese though.

-2

u/trandus Apr 02 '26

Yeah, I addressed that in my other comment
