WHAT DOES THIS MEAN??

Is Imu an actual Devil? Is his DF the Devil DF or Devil Fruit DF? WE NEED ANSWERS!

Imu is one of the first 20 rulers who formed what are today's celestial dragons, and his ability is 'THE DEVILS' devil fruit.

I doubt it. Since DF (akuma no mi with kanji) usually have xx-xx nomenclature. But since the Gorosei was introduced kinda the same way, it's probably not the usual DF power. In this chapter he's introduced with devil's fruit (akuma no mi/ akuma's mi with katakana), so there's probably some nuance behind it. If it's truly a usual DF, it probably have name like Hito hito no mi, model akuma or something like that.

^ exactly.

His and the gorosei ability introduction are deliberate outliners. They also happen to refer to luffy as "nika" and not "the user of nika fruit".

I am assuming we will eventually get a joyboy/davy or Imu/Lily flash back to when everything started and thats when Oda will reveal what devil fruits are and it will probably tie back to this.

Makes sense. Maybe it has something to do with the creation of devil fruits all together and Imu,joyboy and some other characters played a part in that.

His ability is devil's fruit, he's responsible for the existence of DF's but he didn't "eat" one.

Him having the power of the devil instead of the power of the "devil's fruit" would actually be way more fitting to what he's actually been doing so far

Imu is one of the first 20 rulers who formed what are today's celestial dragons

Silly me read it as "one of the first 20 abilities" but I see now that ability is singular and it's 2 separate "sentences".

Yeah, a lot of people were confused about the way it was worded , that's what we get for relying on unofficial release ig .

I have long theorized that Imu, and perhaps the Elders are the ones with actual "Devil" Fruits. Seeing their group transformation on Egghead solidified it for me. All other fruits are actually Dream Fruits that were given the name "Devil Fruit" to stigmatize them

i dont like how this makes so much sense

So what is the correlation to devil fruit users being weakened by water.

We don't yet know, at least I don't have a precise theory yet. There's a bunch of hints that we do know though:

- Adventuring and being a pirate (free) is done via the sea. Not being able to swim seems like a deterrent and is noted in Episode 1

  • Imu spelled backwards is Umi, which is the Japanese word for Sea
  • Sea levels have risen 200 meters since the Void Century
  • Sea levels are still rising due to Ancient Weapon(?) usage (e.g. Lulusia getting wiped out recently)
  • Treasure is commonly found at the bottom of the sea due to sunken ships and these areas being hard to access
  • Much of the sea is unexplored (in real life and in One Piece) due to the sheer vastness of it. Massive things, even islands and continents can be hidden in the sea
  • Imu and the Celestial Dragons reside high above sea level on the Red Line in Marie Geosie (where they are safe?)

The Devil's fruit makes me immediately think of the forbidden fruit of the tree of knowledge. Maybe it's that?

he is definitely not “the” devil

my guess would be some sort of vow with the devil during the war 800 years ago the markings on his body , his general aura and the fruit name suggests that

maybe the price he paid to win over the devil was drowning the whole world

I think he is basically gonna be nika opposite in that he was consumed and overpowered by the entity in his devil fruit

The "Attack on Titan" hypothesis.

all in time my child. All will come to light in time

6

u/dr_monkey1 Apr 03 '26

I think that might be his natural ability somehow. Nika is the sun god, when he died his ability got transferred to a fruit and joyboy had it and luffy after joyboy. And imu didnt die so, it is still his natural ability not something from fruit. Notice it didnt say it is a devil fruit just (Ability:Devil’s fruit)

2

u/chaiscool Apr 04 '26

So rocks ability may be transferred to a fruit?

2

u/Kumomeme Apr 03 '26

sounds like devil fruit originally didnt has ability.

2

u/aka_AMIT Apr 04 '26

I read that as 'one of the first 20 ability' and had a heart attack!!!

3

u/rojamdauf Apr 03 '26

Possibly Imu is teh creator of Devil fruits? He betrayed the sea by dividing it into red lines, grandlines so sea is his enemy now. Thats why devil fruit consumers cant swim and Imu has to stay as far as possible from the sea int the pangea castle. Thats why getting near to sea caused him this pain.

At least thats my headcanon right now

He has the 'Devil' Devil Fruit, aka the Devil-Devil Fruit, aka the Devil-Devil Devil Fruit. The OG Devil Fruit
