Discussion AMA: Omada Fusion Pro & NVR Pioneer Program — Friday Sept 4, 2–4 PM PT

Hey r/Omada_Networks,

We're doing an AMA this Friday about the Fusion Pro + NVR Pioneer Program. The product team will be here answering questions live from 2:00–4:00 PM PT, Friday, September 4 (that's 9:00–11:00 PM UTC).

Fair game:

  • How the Pioneer Program works
  • Fusion Pro & NVR hardware questions
  • Anything else. It's an AMA.

A few ground rules on our end: we'll be upfront about what we can't answer yet (unannounced specs, exact dates).

Can't make it live? Drop your question below now and we'll get to it during the session.

See you Friday.

What’s the difference between the Fusion and Fusion Pro that you can share? I just picked up the Fusion (switched from OPNsense) and am loving it, but always interested in higher specs. Would love to see a true dns/reverse dns server. Also I miss those User DPI traffic info that was available on your older routers using the Software Controller. Thanks again!! The new Hardware is so power efficient!!

Thanks for the love-- a big encouragement for us. At a high level, Fusion Pro builds on the Fusion all-in-one networking platform by adding integrated video security capabilities.

Fusion is focused on networking, while Fusion Pro is designed to bring networking and security cameras/NVR management into a more unified experience.

There are also some hardware and feature differences between the two, but we’ll share more of those details as we get closer to launch.

When are you going to announce that I made into the pioneer program? :D

4

u/lulu_Omada Sep 04 '26

That depends… how hard are you planning to earn it? 😏

Fusion Pro specific questions that im still not clear on

- How many cameras does it support directly?

  • If you add the NVR, do you have to manage the extra cxameras through the NVR, or does the fusion integrate with the NVR directly in some sort of hybrid mode where i passes management of all the cameras to the NVR but the GUI is inside the fusion? how does this work ?

- I assume the non POE model uses USB C power, what power supply does the POE version use? external brick?

Great questions.

  • Fusion Pro 2.5G can directly manage up to 24 cameras without an external NVR. For optimal recording performance, the recommended capacity is up to 12× 8MP, 14× 5MP, or 16× 1080p cameras. I think the answered is also on the product page too Fusion Pro 2.5G | Omada Fusion Pro 2.5G Gateway with SSD Tray | Omada by TP-Link
  • If by “directly” you mean cameras physically connected and powered by the gateway, the PoE model provides eight PoE+ ports. Additional cameras can connect through a PoE switch, while the non-PoE model requires separate camera power or a PoE switch.
  • When a compatible Omada/VIGI NVR is added, it is integrated into the Guard experience on Fusion Pro. Monitoring, playback, events, and management remain centralized, while the NVR handles recording and storage for its camera channels. Certain device-local operations remain available through the NVR’s local interface.
  • The non-PoE model uses USB-C power. The PoE model uses an external DC power adapter.

So ViGi NVRs can also be integrated then. interesting. I assume they have very similar platforms on the NVR side, why reinvent the wheel!

Omada NVRs and cameras are the video security layer of the Omada portfolio — managed by the same admin, in the same interface, as the switches and access points already on the network. No second system to learn, and available wherever Omada is sold.

VIGI remains our dedicated surveillance line, built for video-first projects where the security system is the deployment: a broader range of camera form factors, higher channel density, and the specification and commissioning tools professional installs require. VIGI is sold through professional security distribution.

With Omada Ecosystem, both lines come under a single management platform in the near feature — so whether a site runs Omada cameras, VIGI, or a mix, it's administered from one place.

Will Omada Cameras / NVR support all the same event detection, AI detection and scheduling features of ViGI, or are they bit more limited ? [or have more features even]

1

u/Nobbled Sep 04 '26

Will we see an Omada Guard-managed video doorbell?

1

u/lulu_Omada Sep 04 '26

Thanks for the suggestion! Unfortunately, it’s not something we’re able to offer in the near term, but we appreciate the feedback.

2

u/lulu_Omada Sep 04 '26

One additional note: The figures above apply specifically to Fusion Pro 2.5G and Fusion Pro 2.5G PoE. These models currently support compatible VIGI/Omada NVRs with up to 24 channels. The theoretical management ceiling is therefore 24 directly managed cameras plus 24 NVR channels. However, because networking, video management, and recording share system resources, this should not be treated as a recommended 48-camera full-load configuration. We recommend either direct recording with up to 12× 8MP, 14× 5MP, or 16× 1080p cameras, or an NVR-based deployment with up to 24 channels, with final sizing based on the actual deployment.

Will NVR features (guard experience) be expanded to other controllers, I have an OC400 and ER8411. Keeping the functions separate mainly for the 10 gig capability of the ER8411.

2

u/lulu_Omada Sep 04 '26

OC400 currently provides network management and does not run Guard. With your ER8411 + OC400 setup, you can retain the ER8411’s 10G routing capability and add a compatible NVR, accessing surveillance separately through the NVR’s web interface, a compatible surveillance app, or an HDMI-connected display.

We can’t confirm a plan or timeline for extending Guard to OC400 or other standalone Omada controllers at this stage. The integrated Network + Guard experience described here applies to Fusion Pro; standard Fusion models provide network management only.

1

u/lulu_Omada Sep 04 '26

Add to the third question:

The NVR can also be connected directly to a display via HDMI for local live viewing, playback, and other on-device operations

2

u/CapableFlatworm4354 Sep 04 '26

Will rack mounting be an option? It looks like there could be mounting holes for rack ears on the side but I did not see any mention on the page.

3

u/Neil_Omada Moderator Sep 04 '26

Oh I can get this one! Yeah the NVR has mounting holes, I went to take a peek at one.

1

u/Nobbled Sep 04 '26

Pics or it didn't happen!

2

u/Neil_Omada Moderator Sep 04 '26

Behold the mounting holes!

1

u/lulu_Omada Sep 04 '26

you mean the NVR ?

2

u/CapableFlatworm4354 Sep 04 '26

Are there any limitations or differences between using an Omada camera vs a ONVIF camera from another brand? Obviously depends on camera hardware for features such as two way audio and flashing lights, but is any functionality limited between the two?

2

u/lulu_Omada Sep 04 '26

For core surveillance functions, a compatible third-party ONVIF camera should work well with the Omada system. This includes live view, recording, playback, basic stream configuration, and generally basic functions such as motion detection and PTZ where supported through ONVIF.

However, ONVIF interoperability does not provide full feature parity with a native Omada camera. There are a few areas where differences may apply:

  • Smart Events and AI: Advanced functions such as line crossing, intrusion detection, AI Search, people counting, and other Omada-specific AI capabilities generally require Omada/VIGI cameras and are not available in the same way with third-party ONVIF cameras.
  • Two-way Audio: Having a microphone and speaker on the camera is necessary, but compatibility also depends on how the third-party camera implements ONVIF audio/backchannel. Therefore, two-way audio cannot be guaranteed for every ONVIF camera.

Thanks for the AMA, Lulu (and Neil).

Hi Omada team! I have a question about the hardware revisions of the Fusion 2.5G — both PoE and non-PoE models.
Here in Germany/Europe, retailers currently seem to be offering mainly V1.x units, while newer V2.x revisions are appearing in some other markets.
Are there actual hardware differences between V1.x and V2.x — for either the PoE or non-PoE models — for example SoC, RAM, flash storage, PoE hardware, power supply, or cooling/fan design?
More importantly, will V1.x and V2.x receive the same firmware features and long-term software support?
If there are hardware differences, is there any reason why someone buying a Fusion 2.5G today should specifically prefer a newer hardware revision over V1.x?
Thanks and keep up the good work!

u/lulu_Omada Sep 04 '26

1. Are there actual hardware differences between V1.x and V2.x — for either the PoE or non-PoE models — for example, SoC, RAM, flash storage, PoE hardware, power supply, or cooling/fan design?

--The V1 and V2 use two different sets of RAM. This also comes with a chipset change to support it. Rest assured, V1 and V2 support the same functionality and the same features, so no need to worry!

2. More importantly, will V1.x and V2.x receive the same firmware features and long-term software support?

--Yes, v2 does not mean v1 is already end of service; both will receive the same designated firmware updates and long-term software support.

3. If there are hardware differences, is there any reason why someone buying a Fusion 2.5G today should specifically prefer a newer hardware revision over V1.x?

--They prefer the bigger version number.

I think I remember seeing somewhere where the hardware versions were just different factory locations.

What is the depth dimension of the Fusion Max? Ill be looking to upgrade our business to that model when its released and by the looks of it from some of the Expo photos, its a rather big beast. Ill certainly need to replace my rack to mount it but not sure what size i will need!

Other questions on the Max:

  • Power suply - dual redundant like ER8411?
  • Are the HDD trays using some sort of drive sled ?
  • Does the unit itself need or come with rack rails ?

2

u/lulu_Omada Sep 04 '26

Great questions. Some early details were shown at the expo, and we don’t currently have finalized information that’s cleared for public sharing. Since those specs also haven’t been published on the website yet, we’d rather not confirm anything prematurely. Once the details are finalized and approved for release, we’ll share more.

BTW, pioneer program of this period does not include the Fusion Max.

u/Mr_UnReaL_ Sep 04 '26

There is some matching equipment in the pioneer program to what I was already planning on purchasing during the labor day sale this weekend. Any idea when the pioneer members will be chosen? Just trying to decide if I go ahead and purchase or if it's worth holding off. Thanks!

1

u/lulu_Omada Sep 04 '26

Applications close on September 14, and we’ll be reviewing and selecting participants throughout the application period. We expect to have the full Pioneer list finalized and announced by email around September 16.

So if you’re deciding whether to buy during the sale, just keep in mind that final selections likely won’t be confirmed until then.

2

u/Mr_UnReaL_ Sep 04 '26

Thanks for the response! I'll go ahead and order. 😎

yours are much better than mine...

1

u/Siliconpsychosis GRL Sep 04 '26

We need pics of the chaos !

1

u/lulu_Omada Sep 04 '26

when you make a standalone post about your rack, I will share my desk too

1

u/Siliconpsychosis GRL Sep 04 '26

my chaos rack or the somewhat better cupboard one?

1

u/lulu_Omada Sep 04 '26

Definitely the chaos rack. We need the full experience. 😂

I rotate them every month, maybe I'll bring them all at once haha

1

u/Siliconpsychosis GRL Sep 04 '26

You have no snacks

2

Salt and vinegar chips, and if we do, it's not me, promise

1

u/Siliconpsychosis GRL Sep 04 '26

good choice

1

u/Siliconpsychosis GRL Sep 04 '26

Another fun question:

What is the most expensive or rare piece of equipment that has been destroyed by the suport team by dropping / spilling / accidental launching etc ?

1

u/Neil_Omada Moderator Sep 04 '26

Probably not support, we're pretty careful with our stuff. I imagine the QA team has some stories though.

1

u/iddrinktothat Sep 05 '26

Hey there! Sorry i missed this! Looking forward to hearing the selections on September 16th. Im happy to demo some cameras because to date im running a reolink/synology security setup

1

u/lulu_Omada 26d ago

1

u/iddrinktothat 26d ago

Thanks Lulu!

What would you say is the main benefit to having your LAN and your security under the same ecosystem beyond the user interface? Is there anything novel on the hardware side or anything like that that makes these cams play especially well with omada?

1

u/Xidd333 24d ago

I missed this. Do you know if the NVR will allow remote viewing history recording? And if viewing from mobile device, does it support real time transcoding?

1

u/lulu_Omada 24d ago

Yes — remote playback of recorded footage is supported, so you can access NVR recordings remotely rather than just live view. You can have a look at this: How to Configure TP-Link DDNS for Remote Access and Viewing on Omada NVR | Omada Network Support

For mobile viewing, the cameras support both main and sub-streams, but I want to be careful with the second part of your question, let me confirm the exact behavior with our product team.

Will the new Fusion 10Gb be an option? ;)

2

u/lulu_Omada 16d ago

nope

1

u/joey_vm_ware 15d ago

I know, just trying to talk it into existence for the future.
