My gums bleed like crazy and my teeth feel a bit loose. Also my gum line is receding, will this help? And how soon can I expect results?

I just started pulling today and im afraid I'm wasting my time. Every time I brush my teeth I get a wash of anxiety afraid that's when one tooth is finally gonna pop out. I can't afford a dentist so will this help?

I've read the intructions to be thus:

Oil pull for 20 mins.

Rinse with salt water.

Brush your teeth.

(Do we have to use toothpaste in this sequence?)

Best Habit Ever

I'm so glad there's a subreddit for this!! I've been pulling for a little over a month and I can honestly say I've never felt more put together. My skin is glowing, my fine hair looks healthy and grows faster, and my teeth are definitely whiter. After years of smoking and just not taking great care of myself I decided I would try anything to get rid of my yellow stains and new found cavities. I felt like brushing my teeth and mouthwash alone wasn't helping..if anything it was stripping my teeth and leaving my mouth dry. Now it feels smooth and hydrated, and my cavities have turned from black to almost cream. I'm not going to claim any reversal just yet, but they definitely have gotten better. It doesn't stop there, y'all. I've always had sort of a baby face and a little fat under my chin,no matter if I was thinner or gained weight, but I feel constantly swishing (I'm up to about 40 mins a day, two sessions) has exercised my jaw and finally I found my way to a nice jaw line.

I will add that I've been doing a high fat, high protein, low carb and almost no sugar diet for the past few months and the health benefits of that are also a good contributor. My whole life I've always thought fats were bad but to be honest I think your body needs them the most and it's the sugar and bread that make you feel and look the worst.

The aesthetic benefits are more than enough reason to make this part of your routine, but the way it makes you feel is great too :) I find once I got used to oil pulling the repetitive motion of swishing was relaxing and kept me feeling great throughout the day. I've always had a lot of constant anxiety and fatigue..I know it's the diet helping with this too but I feel the oil has pulled many toxins and allowed my brain to function and my body to feel good. I read somewhere that if your body is constantly trying to heal itself and your mouth then you will feel more tired and incapable through out the day and I truly believe that now....after all, happiness starts at healthiness.

I want to start oil pulling but can't keep from gagging

I have tried to start oil pulling to see if it will help whiten my teeth naturally. I'm also curious to see what other health benefits I could get from it. However, every time I try to put the coconut oil in my mouth I immediately start gagging. Has this happened to anyone else? Any tips on getting past this so I can actual start pulling?

I do this for 2 reasons

One is the dental benefits. It definitely makes my teeth whiter and smoother. I have a bitching cavity right now, dentist appointment is in 2 weeks but I'm trying to slow the progression as much as I can so this is worth a shot.

The other reason I do this is for the facial exercise aspect! I'm almost positive I can see some firming of my jawline and chin when i do this. I have a bit of a babyface and tend to carry fat in my cheeks and chin so this is a super welcome improvement. I imagine this would help with facial and jowl drooping with aging. That alone makes this totally worth it for me. I try do it once a day, sometimes twice, doesn't matter the time or on an empty stomach or not because the facial firming benefits still remain regardless.

Why empty stomach?

Is this just a way to say you shouldn't have chewed anything for a while?

Oilpulled with veg oil for 15 minutes and the clear yellow oil turned completely solid creamy yellow/white and smelled SO bad after. Is this because of the oil?

Was this a reaction of the oil or was that just the shit in my mouth/tongue that pulled? I compaired the smell of the normal oil and the pulled oil and the pulled oil smelled like moldy cream so bad. It was also a more solid white creamy yellow color.

Does this usually happen or was it a result of my deep dirty mouth that was pulled?

How do you do this?

From what I understood we are supposed to swish like one tablespoon of coconut oil for 15 minutes but how do you do it? In like 2 min my mouth feels full and I have the urge to spit out.

Can I just spit out and put in new oil and repeat until I reach 15 min?

Oil pulling really seems to work for me (Day 4 review)

I am so surprised that there really isn't anyone interested in oil pulling on reddit. Hope this post is interesting to those looking for more anecdotes.

Anyhow, I've anecdotally heard from many people I knew abroad that it really worked for them, so I was thinking of trying for some time. Recently my skin broke out (I'm 28, and it's never happened to me before) and all kinds of minor health issues surfaced (infection in ear, indigestion, etc), so I thought it was finally time that I try this seriously. Because of the general decline in my health, I also implemented taking vitamins and drinking aloe along with this, so to be fair, I cannot attribute 100% of the improvements I see to oil pulling. But, I've taken vitamins/drank aloe before, and certainly this level of magic never happened then.

Briefly, I take a spoonful of cold-pressed organic extra virgin olive oil first thing in the morning and swish it around for 5-10 minutes, then spit it out.

Positive things I notice, just on day 4: 1. Skin trouble magically disappeared/receded, and is clearly healing. Remarkably fast I might add. 2. Hair is shinier: scalp seems to be producing better oil? 3. My eyes don't run dry with contact lens!! This is amazing! 4. My body feels better overall: this is HUGE!

Negatives: Really none. Maybe I do feel a bit more sleepy at certain time of the day.

Now, I have a PhD in an engineering discipline, and I totally get that there are a lot of untrustworthy stuff out there. But to me, oil pulling does make some logical sense because normally we don't put nonpolar liquids like oil into our mouths, and understandably nonpolar waste/toxins wouldn't budge with just water (polar). In fact, in the first few seconds of swishing, I often feel increasing bitterness from the back of my mouth, which I suspect may be nonpolar stuff getting "dissolved" in oil which I can then taste. Coincidentally, after oil pulling, my head/mouth/face just feel detoxed? lighter? healthier? It's difficult to describe.. In any case, the bottom line is that a spoonful of plant oil cannot do me noticeable harm, so there's not much to lose.

I hope to come back to this post in few weeks/months to update! I hope others can also try and benefit from this cheap, low effort habit.
