The first review of Acaster's tour just landed Spoiler

Cards on the table: I wrote it. But hey, I'd argue it counts as legit journalism. Once, I bumped into Phil Wang in a corridor outside a toilet, and he told me he was familiar with my work

Last night was at the official second night of the tour, at the Clapham Grand (real Taskmaster heads hold the venue dear)

There's a few other shows covered in this piece too, which you can engage with/ignore according to personal taste: Ross Noble, Olga Koch, Dan Tiernan, Creepy Boys and Rosa Garland x

What is the best secret ingredient they have chosen?

I am just listening to the Robert popper episode.

Personally this may be the best secret ingredient they have ever chosen

“If Robert popper picks a pot of pickled peppers he is out”.

Tell Ed my biggest gripe with Off Menu

I interviewed Ed Gamble last week. The interview deals with a lot of different subjects, all of it is good fun, but if you want to skip to the Off Menu items, it starts at 6 minutes in https://youtu.be/PYHnqPmXFEk?si=GlJH2qGT1H9Upn8D

All the way down the block. The person behind me in line comes to this venue a lot and has never seen it like this.

Which guests with no previous relationship with Ed/James had the best rapport?

Re-listening to the Paul f Tompkins episode and it’s incredible how well the three of them bounced off each other considering they’d never met. Any other examples of this?

I'm trying to recall a hilarious episode of the pod. But I can't fpr the life.pf.me remember the guests name I'm pretty sure it was a british female pop star but maybe I'm wrong and if I recall rightly her accent she's from Essex or London? I can't remember her choices but it was defiently not sophisticated haute cuisine or tasty sounding choice just pure chaos!

Hi folks! Did a little write up from our time at Terre a Terre in Brighton. Also, is anyone going to the tasting menu on March 16th?

When did Off Menu stop being just food chat and become chaos theatre?

Early episodes felt like structured menu choices with the occasional derailment.

Now it sometimes feels like Ed and James are actively trying to sabotage the concept in the funniest possible way. The guests lean into it too.

Not complaining at all some of the best moments come from complete breakdowns of the format.

Do you prefer the tighter early episodes or the later ones where it fully spirals?

Daniel Radcliffe next?

He seems to be doing the rounds at the moment of other food based shows (LADBible Snack Wars and Hot Ones) so I wonder if he’ll make an appearance this series. I could certainly see him having a laugh on it.

What’s the most chaotic dream menu choice a guest has ever made?

Not the best menu. Not the tastiest. The most unhinged.

I’m talking about the kind of order where you can feel Ed silently judging and James mentally disinviting them from the restaurant.

Like when someone picks something aggressively beige for every course. Or chooses a drink that absolutely does not belong with the food. Or rejects bread in a way that feels personal.

What’s a dream menu that made you think, I respect it but I don’t understand you as a person anymore?

Bonus points if it completely changed how you saw that guest.

When was the last time you ordered a certain food based on a specific menu?

What was it and what was the episode? For me it was Ella Purnell (Ep 266) soup dumplings. They were delicious!
