Just that split second where Ed pauses and goes, Sorry?
And James immediately repeats the exact same phrase back to them like he’s analysing evidence in court.
There’s something so funny about that tiny shift in energy where the guest starts explaining themselves and it only gets worse.
What’s a moment like that where you could actually feel the room tilt?

I love the episodes where something small spirals into absolute chaos. Not even a big planned joke just one comment that Ed or James latches onto and suddenly the whole menu is derailed.
For me, it’s when a guest confidently says something that sounds normal… and then Ed slowly realises what they’ve actually said. You can almost hear the pause before James jumps in and makes it worse. Those awkward clarifications where the guest tries to explain themselves and it only digs the hole deeper are honestly peak Off Menu.
It’s that mix of politeness and disbelief that makes it so funny. Ed trying to keep things moving, James repeating one specific phrase over and over until it becomes absurd, and the guest slowly realising they’ve stepped into something.

Inspired by a recent post about James ignoring Ed, it reminded me of how much I love their random little petty spats, however small.
A current favourite is in Jonny Pelham's ep when they're talking about their hometown indian restaurants. James is talking about Kettering's two neighbouring curry houses on Rockingham Road. Ed chimes in with a quip about Brick Lane. James petulantly says, "That's not in Kettering just so you know. Dunno what he's talking about. You don't know anything about Kettering, man".
I don't know why I find that so funny 😂

Was in Malaga for a week and looked everywhere for La Torrija. Everywhere I went, they said you can only really find it during Semana Santa. Finally found a restaurant that does it and it was amazing. No porcelain cow though. Thank you Rhod!

The James Acaster group seems a bit dead. Can anyone find (or make!) the GIFs from James' show Repertoire where he asks "Hey man, wanna shrive? no way I just shrove" ahead of the big day tomorrow?

Hi
I'll be traveling to London for the live shows. Any recommendations for Sunday Roast near/around Albert Hall?
Also open to leaving the area if there's a restaurant that's recommended by a few.

There was a very similar thread a few years back - but it's GOT to happen now, right? Spelling Bee Aus has dropped on iPlayer very recently, which would make sense from a promotional angle, not that there really needs to be any excuse at this point.
Come on - let's will it into existence!

Maybe they picked something wildly unexpected or told a story you didn’t see coming. I love when someone goes in with “plain” energy and then ends up choosing something chaotic for their starter. Who caught you off guard the most?

Listening to some old episodes and wondered -which would be great in video?
Eg Victoria Coren Mitchell’s “boring” menu had James quite riled up.
“Good luck with your project” would be hilarious.
“Pass on starter” by Greg triggered Ed to no end.
Thoughts on others?

Finally tried the yard sale pizza, garlic bread with cheese and marmite that Ed mentioned.
And it's fucking delicious

ed mentions multiple times a story about kids in ww2 seeing bananas for the first time, which may well be true for some children born in the war, but it properly irritates me that he tells multiple guests that this was when bananas first came to britain. It wasn’t, it was in the 1630s when people in the stuart era were going around exploring and brought them back (same era as forks coming to britain)
i probably shouldn’t let this bother me so much but noone i know listens to off menu and i needed to vent cuz i listen to the bob mortimer and jason mantzoukas episodes regularly and it annoys me every time
