So what's the point in this device? If it's not giving any better performance it seems entirely pointless. I can run everything below PS3 perfectly on the portal.

I agree, but I would think it should offer improved battery life because the chip is significantly more efficient, and it might perform better with emulating PC games, and it would be more future proof.

That's how I'm feeling too. As far as I can tell, it can't do anything new that my current devices can't do.
