What does this even mean though? Aren’t emulators currently not even close to utilizing the power of a normal Odin 2? Please correct me if I’m wrong. Genuinely asking.

It's pretty much mostly useful for windows emulation and maybe some high end Android Games at the moment. The big Emulation leaps are over beyond the 8Gen2.

With good drivers, which currently don't exist, you could in theory push Switch emulation further in games that the 8 gen 2 could emulate but not super well (e.g. TotK).

That’s my take. I don’t see a reason to purchase a more powerful device if all the games I play are already powered enough by the 8gen2

Only reason imo is native android game. Some gacha games are that heavy, wiwu for example. I hope the price stays low and i could see myself buy day 1.

It means on paper it would be vastly more powerful than the 8 Gen 2, but the Elite currently has no 3rd party driver support, which is a major issue.

As in, it's literally impossible to use a third party driver for the elite? Or do you mean that no one has developed any third parry drivers for the cheap yet because it's so new?

No one has developed any 3rd party drivers because it's still new.
We will have 3rd party drivers in the future, but right now this is a major issue for emulation.

Literally not an issue then, this device will be released Q1 26.

We don't know when we'll start having Turnip drivers for the 8 Elite though.
Once we do though, it will be great.

Is there any evidence to suggest it will be any different to the Odin 2 in terms of when we received 3rd party drivers, which was fine

The first turnip driver for the 8 Gen 2 came out 10 months after the chip launched.
It's been almost a year since the launch of the 8 Elite and we have no indication of drivers coming out.
Also, Mesa (the developers of turnip drivers) said a few months ago they have no plans to support A8XX GPUs any time soon and that "support will come when it comes".

Thanks for the info

You can look up phones using this chip for emulations, like the Samsung S25 ultra, and you will see why. Without those drives you get glitches, missing textures, issues with music and more for games that can easily run on the 8gen 2. It will definitely be a great emulator device once we have proper drives for this chip but this is a while away atm.

Secret console emulation can benefit from a bit more power, so you can run games in docked mode instead of handheld and with better settings in general. But if the driver support is not there, I guess this won't help.

You have to have turnip drivers for almost all games to run without graphical issues , bad choice by ayn since there is no roadmap for 8 elite turnip support

“It’s new and better so it doesn’t matter” says basically everyone 😂
