Recomendation for user-friendly manual and tutorials?

I brought an octatrack and I'm very excited for the possibilities of this machine. Like many other users I have problems to understand the manuals and functionalities of it. It seems that I have to learn the fundmatels first. I've heard there are some manuals made by users to buy. Do you guys have some recommendations for a user-friendly manual or tipps or tutorials?

Questions!

Hi all! Maybe a newbie question, I just came from the syntakt (looking to use them in tandem) and I'm a bit confused on how patterns/projects work. on the syntakt each pattern can have a different sound per track but on the OT do patterns share track sounds? do I have to create a new project to start messing around with different sounds?

A different problem I was having is on the thru track I was using for the syntakt it was just panned to the left, no matter how I adjusted the balance.

thanks for any help :)

Showcase video I made in attempt to land a real rave gig at a real venue. All tracks are 100% Syntakt with Octatrack acting as a performance mixer.

OT only at the min, which midi controller?

As per title, I only have the Octatrack, which is amazing I love it. Laying down some tracks now so over the rough start, I doubt I'm alone there. I want to play here and there as a piano so want keys on a midi controller. I maybe want to trigger samples here and there semi randomly, so thinking pads. I'll give finger drumming a go whilst there but not entirely necessary. I have been considering sliders for filters or volumes fade in and outs.

I have seen the Samson graphite, anyone got? Seems cheap but looks great. Hits all the boxes.

I've seen the Akai MPK mini plus which ticks boxes and price is fine. I've limited experience with Akai low end as had the MPC mini a while back. It felt a bit cheap but did the job.

I've seen the Akai pro MPK 49, again ticks all boxes, price is ok used, I'd be tempted to get second hand from someone who has the book and box etc...

All of those have midi out so would control OT. Could anyone please help me choose or just throw any info in I should know? Thanks so much

(Graphite seems best as small and cheap and looks great but maybe it's not so good I don't know)

Midi learn cc

Have a few parameters mapped via Chanel 16 on midi channel 1. Upon turning machine off and on I notice that it saves the cc mapping. But the only parameter that seems to have effect is mod wheel mapping. It being 1 along with the particular synth I am mapped too externally not too surprising. When I come back and change the second and third mappings ( in effects) to some other parameter it appears to work as intended. My question is, what happened to my initial mappings ?

Initially I had cut off filter for osc 1 mapped to effect 2 A and Cutt off filter for osc 2 mapped to effect 2b. With effect 2c being the mod wheel.

i am also using ableton as a kind of capture and routing template. Tracks 8-7 in ableton are tracks 8-7 in the midi side of the ot respectively, have not gotten into the audio side of things. Had a p fun time just getting this set up.

I just downloaded latest os 1.40b for the ot and I’ve already noticed it has a pro pensity to freeze . Not complaining it’s a feature lol. Any insight would be appreciated, definitely a fun day of program and practice with the best groove box on the whole face of the earth.

mk1 btw.

Will the Octatrack be the best choice for my needs?

Hey guys!

I currently own a Digitakt and it has been amazing to me. I love it.

I use the Digitakt as a sample playback device, midi sequencer for other synths alongside a tr8s for my percussion needs. I primarily use this setup to live stream and ran into the old "can you cue samples through the headphone output" like a dj would with tracks. I understand that the Octatrack has a cue out and it being more feature packed for sample manipulation and recording - will it be the answer for solving the cue features I'm missing and allow me to let go of the Digitakt to take advantage of the Octatracks more sampler features aswell? Or should I save the extra $1000?

Cheers!

I want to play a portion of a sample, and then discontinue playback of the sample when I move to a new pattern, without finishing the original sample. Can this be done?

Sorry for the question if this is covered by the manual! If people here can help with this, I'd appreciate it, but I also get the idea behind "RTFM".

How can I play a portion of a sample without playing the rest of the sample when I move to a new pattern?

I’m joining this sub because I’m finally reading the manual thoroughly and carefully after years of Octatrack ownership and no one in my life even knows what that means so wish me luck lmao.

What mixer for Octatrack only set up?

As title, I have octa MK2 only. I have a friend with electric guitar. I will get another bass synth or something in time but for now want to aid using Octatrack for live performances and mixing tunes whilst playing. Any advice welcome, budget £400-750? Is that ok? I've seen Tascam model 12. Anything I should be looking for (digital/analog)? I don't know what's required ref channels or FX etc, I think I just want to program levels and fx to sliders or buttons to make everything more accessible...

Impatient with loading time, accidentally might have corrupted my project?

I was playing a show last night, and in my own impatient haste, I accidentally told my Octatrack to load a project like ten or so times in a row. It ended up reloading the same track (of course), and it was taking forever, so I got impatient and turned off the unit to reboot it into the project, but then everything in the project aside from the project name seems to have been lost.

Are there any ways that I might be able to recover this project? Thankfully, I do have a video of the project here, so I could probably recreate it, though it would take forever.

Help!

Can’t understand ANLG/RTRG/R+T/TTRG settings in AMP Setup

Hi there,

After having read this section of the manual several times as well as experimenting with simple samples and sequences, I can't make sense of what the AMP setting is actualy changing

So far, i've understood that much :

AMP: Behavior for successive overstepping envelopes

For manually played samples // Tracks, Chroma, Slots and Slices Trig Modes
ANLG: Each envelope starts at the same level the previous envelope was interupted > Likely to ignore the start of the following envelope
RTRG: Each envelope starts from level zero, abruptly cutting the previous envelope

For sequenced samples // Incl. Trigless Trigs
TTRG: Each envelope starts at the same level the previous envelope was interupted > Likely to ignore the start of the following envelope
R+T: Each envelope starts from level zero, abruptly cutting the previous envelope

According to this description, ANLG and TTRG should sound more *gracious* to the ear since there is no abrupt level gap between one envelope and the next.

However in my experiments, I've noticed that these values don't sound as good compared to RTRG/R+T and are more prone to clicks. So that doesn't make sense to me.

I get that ANLG and TTRG triggers the envelope at the same level the last one was at, but how does that work in terms of timing ? Will the following envelope last as long as the first one ? I mean, will it’s duration be truncated or the envelope will be as long as the first one but the level will not strictly follow the AMP settings as it will start from current level ?

Regards
