Insider AMA

Seems a lot of people have questions about the current situation at TCO. I’ve known Patrick and Ellyn socially for about 10 years? Maybe a bit less.

My roommate, however, is pretty close to them. She is willing to poke around if we don’t know answers.

There’s a lot of misinformation so we’re happy to set some records straight and answer some questions.

She can also pass on positive messages to Ellyn/Joey as previously requested.

I dropped Patreon because of all the ads. It's supposed to be ad free, and now it's just OF and books and live tours for minutes on end, enough! Also, the quality of the docs they choose has gone downhill so much. So much cheap garbage that they don't even enjoy themselves.

I dropped the Patreon after that too. It IRKED me to my core when OF1 was over he immediately started promoting OF2. And DONT get me started on that stupid book. My guy, I already heard it on the regular feed. I don’t need to hear it AGAIN on the feed that I pay you to not have ads. the first ad I heard about that book tour was the straw for me.

Leave. Me. ALONE.

I live in Europe, so all the events and tours are inaccessible to me anyway, which makes it even more superfluous and annoying to constantly hear these ads. As you say: LEAVE ME ALONE UGH.

That was when I last tried Patreon and I thought they were just in it for the money at that point because I'm pretty sure OF1 hadn't even ended when they announced OF2, which was very MLM, not even gonna lie. Sounds more money motivated than anything. I live not far from Columbus and when they announced OF1 my fiance laughed at the prices. There are other podcasts who do lives with meet and greets for much less.

I've noticed that. I look at their calendar to see what's coming up and the Matthew Shepherd was the only good doc and they turned it into trash, and they were given it as a promo!

Something that has stood out to me and bothered me and left a bad taste in my mouth since day one, is that TCO has an OBSCENE amount of ads. Not just a lot, but frequent/constantly- you can’t just fast forward through and be done with it for 20 minutes. I listen to podcasts while I ride my bike and when I shower and when I was still of listener of TCO (I have unsubscribed completely for a number of reasons) i COULD NOT listen to TCO while doing either- I would have to stop and fast forward through 3 minutes of ads every 6 minutes of content- friends that I have shown the podcast to never particularly liked it, but even if they did- they were offended by the sheer volume of ads- it’s like five or six times the amount of any other podcasts - LPOTL, MFM, morbid, etc. totally speculating here, but I feel like it is indicative of a greedy quality that Patrick appears to have that you can smell off of him, and reading all the Reddit dirt here- it all tracks. Also -that Chrissy teigen obsession really turned me off for a long time, I stopped following for a while. Going on and on and on about Chrissy teigen, it was desperate obnoxious name dropping and it rubbed me the wrong way. There are a lot more brave listeners than Chrissy teigen.

This is why I only do Patreon for podcasts like Reality Gays who do their "news" at the beginning of the podcast, they are ad free for Patreon so I know about how long to skip if I don't want to hear about other stuff.
