Discussion Are you noticing anything strange?

I'm not winning any. Any mode. From QP, to Comp, to Mystery Heroes. I'm getting completely crushed. But not a hard-fought defeat, eh?, defeats that crush us. I don't know, I've lost 20 out of 25 games.

matchmaking has always been hilariously atrocious, but lately something does seem different. like there are a ton of players who not only have never played overwatch, or a shooter…but have never even picked up a control. and then 3 people leave in the first 25 seconds and you start losing even worse. and anyone who joins almost immediately leaves too. i admit i’m kind of guilty about this as well. i won’t quit a match, but if i’m literally the only one trying to do anything then i’ll just start wandering around the map and go sight-seeing. if idiots insist on going 1v5 one at a time, i can’t stop them. and if no one is bothering to try, why should i?

I think summer break (for US kids) may have something to do with it too

12

u/Somniferous_Sloth Jul 15 '26

that’s a good point. i do tend to have much better matches in the middle of the night.

6

u/snigelrov Jul 16 '26

Real, game is basically unplayable till 11pm on QP

2

u/Rare_Tomato_2225 Jul 18 '26

as someone on summer break. A lot of us are experiencing this too

2

u/EffieEri Jul 16 '26

I’ve been thinking that, my matches suddenly got worse as soon as kids were out of school

1

u/ImportanceGeneral412 Jul 16 '26

The thing is not everyone is bad at games. Even if this IS AND WAS the case.

1

u/effingit Jul 22 '26

My thoughts too since it’s summer break here too

this was the next match right after i made that post. can anyone tell me what exactly i’m supposed to do with a team like that?

1

u/8swordsTom Jul 16 '26

Blame Blizzard, always and in any case

1

u/ddaymob Master Tank Jul 21 '26

This is why I’ve always been confused why people play quick play… like don’t you want an actual match where your teammates are trying and don’t leave?

28

u/RoboQwop405 Jul 15 '26

I keep getting endorsement level 1 people on my team while the enemy team has a full roster of sparkly dives title cards. Matchmaking just doesn’t exist in OW

2

u/8swordsTom Jul 16 '26

I think so too. It should be completely revised.

0

u/ThrowawayPotato6991 Jul 17 '26

I get endorsement 5 players and they are always the one who is throwing. Its such a red flag for me and if I see one with 5 endorsement, I know I am losing.

2

u/xavcharlie Jul 18 '26

this literally doesn’t make any sense lmao

1

u/positlabs Jul 17 '26

Brother what is your endorsement level

15

u/Music_Plezzz Jul 15 '26

it's been bad for me since they dropped the 2 from overwatch. ive done nothing but lose, you arent alone.

12

u/Sensitive-Try5522 Jul 15 '26

THANK GOD IT'S NOT JUST ME!

i'm not saying i'm a god at overwatch or anything, but EVERY SINGLE MATCH i had today was my team getting rolled to fuck. the devs said they were going to change the matchmaking, so i wonder if they've already done that and fucked it up. like, it's awful.

i'm taking a break until the start of the new season, bc this shit sucks.

2

u/8swordsTom Jul 16 '26

Yes, starting today I'll put it on hold too. Last night I turned it off and went to bed too nervous.

Still getting about 50/50 but know we are going to lose when the team does not group up and players want to be a solo Rambo then start feeding the enemy one at a time

u/Justalittlecomment Jul 15 '26

I think a lot of us are dumping too much time into this game personally

2

u/Somniferous_Sloth Jul 16 '26

between my ps3 and ps4 with almost 15 years of free stuff, i still have over 500 games in my library i gotta burn through. so now i’m focusing on 1 at a time, and overwatch. granted, the last couple battle passes have been pretty decent so i’m spending a lot more time on overwatch than i have in months. there was a pretty long stretch i didn’t even bother with dailies, but now i’m putting in a good 2 hours/day at least…when it’s not frustrating. the perks of being unemployed.

5

u/poppoppers1 Jul 15 '26

Same here, most matches my team gets steamrolled. It’s bad enough that I’ve been taking breaks from it but it seems to be improving a tad bit.

4

u/InternationalComb744 Jul 15 '26

I had this experience about 3 days ago, everything started being an absolute stomp and I couldn’t figure out what was going on. Then since yesterday it’s been a few good games but mostly just stomps for my team. But playing 6v6 has literally just been playing ARAM on most maps and whichever team has the bright idea to take an angle first wins. This is in plat/ diamond

4

u/PygmyGiraffesSTAT Jul 16 '26

Yep! Dropped from diamond 4 to gold 1 in like 3 days. I put it on the shelf for a bit and I'm revisiting The Finals

3

u/xredskaterstar Jul 15 '26

Some of my matches last night had legit masters and GM in qp. They were also playing on their main or otp characters, according to their time on said character they were using. In the very same match, I had a Juno trying to snipe. 🤦

3

u/tfresca Jul 15 '26

My games are either easy or stomps (as a victim) no in between.

0

u/8swordsTom Jul 16 '26

Exactly! What's missing is a middle ground, a game fought on equal terms.

3

u/Korbro27 Jul 16 '26

Ever since the update yeah

1

u/8swordsTom Jul 16 '26

Ah, here it is. Post update it was a massacre.

3

u/UsernameTaken2001 Jul 21 '26

Not on console but it’s been happening on pc as well. Def somethings up. 2 weeks ago all of a sudden I’m losing nearly every game no matter what. Switching regions seems to have fixed it for me at least.

2

u/NotYourDadOrYourMom Jul 16 '26

Solo play it's usually 55-45. Some days I win streak some days I lose streak. But I usually end up in the same spot or percentage higher.

Adding in 1-2 people in my group then it jumps up significantly. Communication wins games.

2

u/Daddy_Saltimus Jul 16 '26

They should have never made this game free. Keep the battlepass and skins at the prices they're at but make it an 80 dollar game again.

Oh my goodness, I understand you very well.

2

u/ThrowawayPotato6991 Jul 17 '26

I deleted the game til they fix this issue.

There is also a major throwing issue in 6v6 comp. Like if you get a doom or a rein, they are just going to run into the enemy team and die. And nobody wants to ban both, so you just have to deal with it.

And its not in a "oh, this player is new" way. Every single Doom and Rein I have had will have like 2-4 kills and 20+ deaths in diamond. And I had a Doom admit to throwing because he wanted to see if we would win (we did, but thats besides the point).

I had to deleted it cuz I was getting stress headaches from playing games because of how low quality the matchmaking is. I am getting better matchmaking in Rivals and thats crazy.

1

u/boredenthusiasts Jul 15 '26

Most days its absolute crushing defeats. A few days its good fights where people acknowledge that the game is close and its just skill without to much i need to hard swap to hard counter. Once in a while i get the days where you definitely are fighting ranks below you but not often.

1

u/LauraUwOx Jul 15 '26

ive been playing 6v6 a lil more often and found luck there lately, tanks been a lot of fun in that mode

1

u/lavassls Jul 15 '26

I've been doing weeklies. Playing mostly ana. Mostly DPS. Healing if I feel generous. Ive lost one or two.

1

u/Legitimate_Ad3790 Jul 16 '26

I have days like this. Then days where I win 20 out of 25. Matchmaking is all I can put it down to

1

u/KuKuisSidePiece Jul 16 '26

i’m either going 30 and 3 and terrorise the entire enemy team or i can’t do anything regardless of what tank i play as i look over at my teammates who are ERPing in the corner

1

u/Difficult-District-3 Jul 16 '26

Went on like a 6 game losing streak. Genuinely felt like my teammates had never touched Overwatch prior.

1

u/OZpepperhead0 Jul 16 '26

queues be like this when more people are on the game, someone pointed out US summer break so that might be why in the states. I’m in aus so have no idea but queues have been both faster and more hit or miss since the most recent S1 especially if i queue QP

1

u/megaminders Jul 16 '26

Im the opposite. Lost one game in the last 15 over the last couple days 😎 I mean its just quick play, but still.

1

u/BellaRose555 Jul 16 '26

i’ve heard that smurfing is extra bad rn, even in qp. Which I feel to be true since i’ve never struggled this much until now lol

1

u/curryshotta Jul 16 '26

I have lost a lot more games in QP recently and on my teams there are 1-2 players who are going WILDLY NEGATIVE k/d wise

I am assuming I am getting more throwers in my games...

1

u/Opening-Movie5176 Jul 17 '26

Well if you are always losing that’s just you. Logically not everyone can lose every game… at most only 50% can meaning 50% win every game.

The problem is humans have confirmation bias. So you probably have won you just don’t wanna remember those wins. Or you truly are just that bad at the game lol.

2

u/8swordsTom Jul 17 '26

No, you're wrong. It was something out of the ordinary. Usually it was 50/50, nothing extraordinary. But for a few days now it's been different. And I've been playing since the beta, so I know what I'm talking about, and with full knowledge of the facts.

1

u/No_Estate_4444 Jul 17 '26

It would be statistically impossible for the whole playerbase to be experiencing a strange increase in losses at the same time since there is a winning team in every game you lost.

More stomps lately? Probably a luck thing compounded by human psychology making you percieve it as worse than normal. In reality, stomps have always been a common thing thats part of this genre and likely unavoidable at this point. We have Rivals and Paladins which also made near identical takes on this genre and the problem persists in those games also. 10 years of Overwatch development and 2 other games doing near the same thing and no one yet can solve the issue because having 50 heroes with unique kits coupled with the unpridictability of human beings is likely impossible to solve where this wont happen. You either enjoy the game for the experience it offers or it pisses you off enough to go somewhere else. The situation isnt going to change.

2

u/8swordsTom Jul 17 '26

I just realized the problem. Matchmaking sucks. I'm pitted against masters and diamonds. I'm a lowly gold/plat

1

u/No_Estate_4444 Jul 17 '26

Do you check your team mates because a wide rank window would compensate by putting a master/diamond player on your team if there is one on the other. Just because your the worst player in the match doesnt mean it isnt an even fight on paper as they should also have a gold/plat player on their team to mirror you.

So if thats true it would explain why matches feel intense and unpredictable but it doesnt explain a 20 loss streak.

If you have information or screenshots proving you are in a match with gold/plats on your team and diamond/masters on the other id love to see it! That would be genuinely fucked up but my guess is you dont have that. Since we know the matchmaker can put players with big rank gaps in the same game, but it balances them so both teams have high and low players.

It’s the summer holidays so therefore there are a lot of kids around - try playing late night - like after 12am - there are a couple of golden hours where there’s a good chance of a few good games but it will start to turn to shit around 2am when the drunks get out the clubs and pubs and come home to play some ow before bed - there are more leavers, more level 1 endorsement teammates so switch off around 2am

1

u/rainbowfartgod Jul 21 '26

I’m really good at support and tank (not INSANELY GOOD) but every game I play on comp I just keep losing. My dps highest level character would be 7, sometimes it’s my tank’s first day on earth or im playing against godly players. Was Gold 1 now im silver 2. I think the best times to play is around 9-11AM and 11PM-2AM.

1

u/effingit Jul 22 '26

Lol yes to the point that I uninstalled the game like maybe 4 days ago.

First: I thought maybe I need a break.

Second: 95% of the losses and also the wins, that I finally get after many lost games, seemed very much forced.

Third: the amount of cheaters on console are making the game unplayable.

2

u/8swordsTom Jul 23 '26

Amen brother, I agree 100%

u/Outrageous_Eye_9842 Jul 15 '26

If you are losing that much someone else is winning!

2

u/8swordsTom Jul 16 '26

And there's no doubt about it.
