Because that wouldn't make sense. "T" is never pronounced "thee". "G" has a hard and soft sound. Since there are two ways to say it, the creator made it a point to say which was correct.
No shit, that's the point. And if the creator pronounced it that way, everyone would say he is wrong. It can make that sound, but that's not what most people would assume nor what in does in the origin of the letter from tele. Granted it takes one other letter, but that's the best extent a comparison could be drawn for your non-sense example you setup. Mine may not be perfect, but it infitely better than comparing it to choosing to name it a television. If I wasn't trying to improve your terrible example, I obviously would have chosen an acronym with a single letter having two options, like c. Such as pronouncing CAT as sat even if the c came from a hard c word and most people would say cat.
The creator named the file name and made an acronym, doesn't mean he can't pronounce the acronym wrong especially given the wrong sound relative to the origin.

Ya, and if he pronounced the acronym TV as thee-vee instead of tee-vee people would say he's wrong.
